    Crawley c Blundell b Kuggeleijn 28 (Eng 68-2)

Scott Kuggeleijn strikes in his first over.

It's not a great delivery, banged in but the ball just doesn't get up as much as Zak Crawley expects.

So, instead of middling the pull shot, he gets a feather off the toe of the bat through to Tom Blundell.

Australia have lost two more quick wickets in Delhi.

First Usman Khawaja, the one batter who has looked comfortable today, was brilliantly caught by the leaping KL Rahul after playing a reverse sweep.

Seven balls later Alex Carey has snaffled at slip for a duck off Ravichandran Ashwin.

Australia are 168-6 after winning the toss.

  3. Eng 67-1published at 13 overs

    Crawley 28, Pope 9

We had to wait 47 overs for a maiden in England's first innings. It's just the 13 second time around as Southee keeps Crawley quiet.

The Black Caps skipper beats the bat with another beauty early in the over but, again, no edge.

  4. Eng 67-1published at 12 overs

    Crawley 28, Pope 9

Two very classy shots from Ollie Pope as England stretch their lead up towards 100.

The Surrey man shimmies down and whips through mid-wicket then, two balls later, stays stock still in his crease and unfurls a beautiful cover drive.

Eventful over from Southee to Pope. The England man adds a boundary with a lovely square drive but he was made to work before that.

Interestingly, there was some variable bounce with one ball shooting past off stump at shin height and the next jumping up a touch to beat the bat.

If that is a sign of things to come then that plays into England's hands with New Zealand batting last on this surface.

England have not had it all their own way on day two.

They were frustrated by Tom Blundell's brilliant hundred and have now just lost their first wicket as they bat with a slender first-innings lead in their second innings.

The day started well for Ben Stokes' side when they took two wickets in the first session to leave the Black Caps 83-5.

There was then a stand of 79 between Blundell and Devon Conway, but when Conway fell to Ben Stokes and Michael Bracewell quickly followed England were eyeing a big first-innings lead.

But Blundell kept going in a composed knock, putting on 53 with debutant Scott Kuggeleijn and 59 with number 11 Blair Tickner before being last man out for 138.

England's openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett were typically aggressive, putting on 50 inside nine overs, before Duckett edged to second slip off Tickner for 25.

  8. Eng 53-1published at 10 overs

    Lead by 72

It's not nighthawk time just yet, Ollie Pope is in at three.

Tickner, buoyed by the wicket, has a spring in his step and completes a good over.

Pope is able to get off the mark last ball, though, with a single to square leg.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.2 overs

    Duckett c Latham b Tickner 25 (Eng 52-1)

    Edged and gone.

Blair Tickner makes the breakthrough for New Zealand and they really needed it.

Just back of a length, angled across the left-hander and he pokes at it. The edge flies to Tom Latham at second slip.

    Eng 50-0published at 9 overs

Three singles from Southee's latest and the third of them brings up the fifty partnership between England's little and large opening pair.

A little under 40 minutes left in the day for New Zealand to try and make the most of the favourable bowling conditions under the lights.

It's got to be up there, Lawrence, and I think it could be quite important.

With it being a left-hand/ right-hand combination as well, bowlers have to completely change both their line and length depending on who is on strike.

Lawrence Edwards: Not important in the greater scheme of things but is this the biggest height differential of England openers in history?

  14. Eng 47-0published at 8 overs

    Crawley 26, Duckett 21

Gorgeous. Crawley nails a drive through the covers and it was four the moment it left his bat. Right out of the screws.

Tickner pulls his length back but Crawley is having that one too, a short arm pull through mid-wicket for four more.

He's brilliant to watch when he's in full flow.

  15. Eng 38-0published at 7 overs

    Lead by 57

Tim Southee bowls a very good over and it goes for nine. Welcome to Bazball.

The first of two boundaries is that sort of cut Duckett manages to play from any ball that on an off stump line or wider.

The second is a genuine edge, the left-hander is drawn forward on the drive and is thankful to see the nick go between the slips and gully.

Re Tom in London 7.11 and others with a similar view - we should be able to say "that is how we play", because that is exactly how we play these days, and long may it continue. In similar circumstances yesterday, NZ ended the day 38-3 and they weren't playing "brain dead cricket" Losing wickets isn't the problem if you're scoring enough runs.

Shot! Banged in by Tickner and Crawley pulls it imperiously in front of square for four.

He'll have enjoyed seeing that one rocket to the fence after missing out on a short, wide one a couple of balls earlier.

An early change of bowling, Blair Tickner is replacing Neil Wagner. The left-armer hasn't really made the most of the new ball in either innings.

    Tom BlundellImage source, Getty Images

Just waking up? England have not had it all their own way on day two. A brilliant innings from Tom Blundell has kept New Zealand right in this match and means England are now batting under the lights.

Things started well for Ben Stokes' side when they took two wickets in the first session to leave the Black Caps 83-5.

There was then a stand of 79 between Blundell and Devon Conway, but when Conway fell to Ben Stokes and Michael Bracewell quickly followed England were eyeing a big first-innings lead.

But Blundell has kept going in a hard-working, composed knock, putting on 53 with debutant Scott Kuggeleijn and 59 with number 11 Blair Tickner.

Blundell was finally out for 138 but he had ensured England's first-innings lead was only 19.

We're now in the early stages of England's second innings.

  20. Eng 25-0published at 5 overs

Duckett adds another boundary, guiding the ball past gully after being given the merest hint of width by Southee.

He misses out last ball of the over, though, full, wide and driven to the fielder at short extra.
