Suhel Ahmed: Enthralling Test match at Basin Reserve thanks to Ben Stokes enforcing the follow-on. Without it, this match would have been over two days ago as a contest. Instead we have a classic on our hands.

That was a brilliant over for England, seven from it.

They now need 26 runs to win.

In the air.....but over the fielder!!

Ben Foakes mistimes the pull but there is enough power in the shot to just beat the diving Michael Bracewell, who had stepped in from the ropes, and it goes over the rope for four.

If Bracewell had stayed on the boundary he would have pouched that no problem.

McCullum and Stokes' England are truly a "live by the sword and die by the sword" team and it is incredibly entertaining and incredibly stressful to watch. I'm loving it.

    England need 33 to win

Ben Foakes again declines a single off the first two balls before finding a gap in the off side that allows him to run two.

Michael Bracewell responds by getting some grip and turn, finding the inside edge of Foakes bat that disappears fine for a single.

Jack Leach then sees off the final two balls.

Now then, Tim Southee is rolling the dice - but he is not bringing himself on.

Michael Bracewell is coming back into the attack.

    Interesting.

J G: The positive is this is a position Foakes is in a lot for Surrey and normally gets the job done. And with the sirens whizzing past constantly he'll feel like he's home at The Oval...

A more controlled pull from Ben Foakes brings a single and Jack Leach sees off the rest of the over.

    Five off it for England.

    Runs! Valuable, valuable runs!

It is another Neil Wagner short ball and Ben Foakes has top-edged a pull over the wicket for four.

No real control, but Foakes won't care.

    37 now needed to win.

England need 41 runs to win

Ben Foakes takes a single to give Jack Leach two balls to face, prompting New Zealand to surround him with catchers.

Another short delivery from Matt Henry finds the edge but it falls short of the catchers.

There's then a big cheer from the England contingent - Headingley 2019 style - when Leach successfully blocks the final ball of the over.

Alex Haworth: Darude's Sandstorm inbetween overs at a Test match is surreal.

  13. Eng 216-8published at 63 overs

Ben Foakes signals his intentions by twice turning down a single at the start of Neil Wagner's over. He is going to try and dig this out while protecting Jack Leach at the other end.

He does eventually take the single to bring Leach on strike, and another vicious short ball flies off the glove but lands just short of man at short fine leg.

New Zealand only got Root out once this match. You have to question why England willingly gave up his wicket first time round...

Now Matt Henry is pumped as he deals out some short stuff out to Jack Leach. His last ball in particular is a beauty, rising up off the track and flying past the outside edge.

A reminder that Matt Henry did his back in during the morning session and could barely walk yet alone run.

Stuart Broad steps away from a short Matt Henry delivery again but is slightly cramped for room and his cut flies straight to man-of-the-moment Neil Wagner at deep third.

Neil Wagner continues to bang it in short but England - and Stuart Broad in-particular - just keep swinging, with five very handy runs coming from that over.
