England bowler Adil Rashid bowls in the first ODI against South AfricaImage source, Getty Images

Adil Rashid gives himself a little telling off at the end of his second over. It only cost too runs but he's not happy about something. If you're being harsh he hasn't quite found his length yet.

  2. SA 114-2published at 20 overs

Van der Dussen 26, Markram 12

"Hit em, Stoney," barks Buttler as Aiden Markram attempts to steal a quick single. Not this time. Markram may have just made his ground anyway.

The well-built right-hander gets hold of one of those pesky Curran bouncers later in the over. It reaches the boundary in a flash.

  4. SA 105-2published at 19 overs

Captain Grace Scrivens is out. Australia now have England 41-6. I fear that one may be over.

  5. SA 104-2published at 18 overs

England Under-19s are 38-5 against Australia now. We could really do without Australia having another generation of cricketers ready to dominate the women's game.

In Bloemfontein Jos Buttler has turned to Adil Rashid.

Sam: Sam Curran is the best white ball player in the world right now.

Jacob Wadsworth: Curran's skillset is absolutely ridiculous, when he first came on the scene he had a yorker & bouncer, he's clearly worked so hard on his variations to the point where he can bowl something different every delivery

  7. SA 100-2published at 17 overs

Van der Dussen 20, Markram 5

It's so sleepy in Bloemfontein that you can hear everything Jos Buttler says behind the stumps. "You're everywhere Mala," the England captain shouts at Dawid Malan who chases down the ball two deliveries in a row.

There's the cliché smattering of applause when South Africa's score ticks over to 100.

England are in real trouble in the Women's U19 World Cup semi-final, slumping to 29-4 after the powerplay against Australia.

Captain Grace Scrivens is still there on 16 but Aussie spinner Ella Hayward has taken two wickets in her first over - including a dubious lbw to remove Seren Smale - and England have a lot of work to do to post a competitive total.

Liberty Heap, Niamh Holland and Ryana MacDnald-Gay are the other England batters to have been dismissed.

Keep up-to-date with the action from Potchefstroom here.

  9. drinks break

    SA 94-2published at 16 overs

Curran has now bowled three overs for five runs with the big wicket of De Kock.

Drinks are coming on the field.

I have bad news from the Under-19 World Cup semi-final, I'm afraid...

Sam Curran celebrates dismissing Quinton de KockImage source, Getty Images

Curran has been taking a pasting in the South Africa T20 league but back in an England shirt he's produced the goods again.

I'm not sure what it is about him but it works.

Aiden Markram, South Africa's Palindrome who always flatters to deceive, is in at number four.

    Makes. Things. Happen.

Sam Curran can look totally innocuous but he just gets wickets. Big ones too. He has bounced out Quinton de Kock with one of those well-aimed bouncers. De Kock gets a little tickle on it through to keeper and captain Jos Buttler.

De Kock had looked very good. England will be thrilled.

  14. SA 86-1published at 13 overs

De Kock 37, Van der Dussen 11

A slice of cake next to me, cooked by my esteemed colleague Amy Lofthouse no less, is looking more and more inviting. I've restrained myself for 40 minutes but not sure I can any longer.

Watching me must be like viewing Jason Roy's Test career. Trying to be sensible but you just know he's going to crack before long.

  15. SA 83-1published at 12 overs

It's one slower followed by one quicker from England's IPL millionaire Sam Curran. Two runs comes from his first over.

    It looks hot out there.

Rassie van der Dussen almost offers a catch after playing a hideous reverse sweep in an otherwise quiet Moeen over.

Sam Curran replaces Archer at the other end. Archer's first spell back in international cricket is five overs, no wickets for 41 runs.

  17. 6 runs

    SA 75-1published at 10 overs

Oh that is absolutely munched by Quinton de Kock! Jofra Archer, into his fifth over on the bounce now, is cracked over the leg side. It's dropped by a security guard behind the advertising boards.

De Kock follows that with a textbook drive too. Archer looks frustrated. Something for him to think about at the end of the powerplay.

  18. SA 65-1published at 9 overs

That was a timely wicket for England. South Africa were going well.

Rassie van der Dussen is the Proteas number three. He scored a sensational century against England on that sweltering day at Chester-le-Street last year and here starts by driving his second ball for four.

    A good player.

And Moeen Ali strikes! It comes with a big helping hand from Sam Curran who takes a fine diving catch at mid-on. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma had just struck one four and tried to go even bigger. He clunked it and Curran sprawled to give England their first wicket.
