  2. 'Outstanding innings'published at 14:15 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2023

England captain Jos Buttler: "It wasn't an easy task. We are obviously delighted to win that game, we spoke a lot about the conditions before the match. These are some of the toughest conditions for us as a group to face.

"I thought Dawid Malan's innings was outstanding and a great lesson to all of us in the group on how you can adapt on these wickets and come out on top. It's a great day for us.

"I think there was plenty in the wicket for both the spinners and the seamers today. If we can be hard on ourselves I think we could have improved in some areas with the ball today. There were too many extras and we didn't quite hit our lengths. Having said that we dragged it back incredibly well.

"There's plenty of areas to work on, even when we win. We have a quick turnaround and we look forward to what should be another great challenge."

  3. 'Malan made the difference'published at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2023

Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal: "I thought the position we were in we definitely should have scored 30 to 35 runs more. It was a difficult wicket, especially against the spinners. I thought we started extremely well, there was a nice partnership going and then we lost three wickets. That was the damage.

"I thought this wicket, 250 is gettable. We were going like that but unfortunately lost wickets. Nevertheless the bowling did very well. The fielders did very well. But sometimes you face an innings like Malan's. You just have to give it to him. I thought he batted really well.

"I thought we tried everything we had with our bowling options. We kept it very tight, I was proud of the way the bowlers bowled. As I said, one man was exceptional today and he made the difference."

  4. 'Satisfying to get over the line'published at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2023

Player of the match, England's Dawid Malan: "I've spent a fair bit of time here in Bangladesh and at this ground and it definitely helps to have a little bit of experience. I definitely didn't find it easy there, and I just said to Jos if they'd got another 30-40 more runs it would have been incredibly tough to chase but credit to the way we hung in there with the ball and pegged them back after they had a decent start.

"We were expecting to lose wickets on a pitch like that. I don't think you can walk out thinking you're going to knock it off two down. One of the things we did really well was to have small 30-40-run partnerships as Bangladesh wrestled momentum back we were able to find ourselves back in the game. It is never easy when you are playing on a slow wicket and you are seeing the rate rise. It was satisfying to get over the line and the handling pressure is part of the job."

Jambarrell: Let that end the Malan debate for now, unless it's debating whether he opens or goes 3

Mark: Fantastic win for. Malan showing his class and mettle again. Drop Roy, Brook, Bairstow and Root to come in. This is one powerful England.

Dawid Malan is one of the most confident blokes in his own ability that I've seen. He works very hard with the analysts. He backs his ability to do what he does today.

Greg: Probably one of @dmalan29 ‘s finest ever 1 day innings. Calm, patient, hitting boundaries when needed on a testing wicket. Well played sir.

Dave: And people will still look at David Malan as a plumber might look at an old washing machine, suck through their teeth and say "not sure I see a future here". Madness. What a player

    Helen: St Dawid’s day.

What impressed me the most was Dawid Malan's ability to recognise when to soak up pressure and then when to put it back on the bowlers.

It was a really fluid innings and the difference between the two sides.
