We have seen six centuries scored but performance of the day - by a distance - has to be that of Gloucestershire's Tom Price.

Arriving at the crease with his side 45-7 against Worcestershire, he left it as the last man out after smashing 109 off 98 balls to see them to a total of 231.

But Price hadn't finished by a long chalk and he dismissed Azhar Ali, Jack Haynes and Brett D'Oliveira for an incredible hat-trick as the home side slumped to 118-7 at close of play, 115 behind.

We'll be back with you from 10:30 BST approx. tomorrow for the second day's action in our seven games. See you then.

    Worcs 118-7 v Glos 231

Two slips and a short leg in for Zafar as Josh Tongue blocks and pats the ball firmly down into the ground.

Zafar will bowl the last ball over the wicket and Hammond moves into silly mid off. Tom Price is in a leg gully.

Tongue is beaten outside off but survives the last ball.

A remarkable day's play ends. Gloucestershire were reeling at 45-7 before Tom Price scored a whirlwind (and maiden) first class century.

He also took 4-38, including a sensational hat trick, with James Bracey taking a particularly fine diving catch down the leg side to dismiss Pollock. A brilliant performance from Price in an utterly absorbing game.

  4. Close of play at Cardiffpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Durham 382-6 v Glamorgan

Durham will be much the happier of the two sides as the visitors close on a very healthy total.

Almost every batsman made valuable runs with nobody quite making it to three figures.

Carse survives on 53 not out. He reached his half century off 64 balls with seven fours and two sixes.

Two wickets apiece for Van der Gugten and Labuschagne, who may very well make a hefty contribution with the bat tomorrow - weather permitting.

WICKET Leach c Dent b Dale 1published at 18:33 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Worcs 115-7 v Glos 231

Goodness me, the Pears are in trouble.

Leach plays back to Dale to drive and the ball flies off a thick edge to Dent in the gully.

Time for Josh Tongue to have a bat.

Brydon Carse dashes for a single off Timm van der Gugten to bring up a fine 50 batting at number eight for his third first-class half-century.

He had smashed Marnus Labaschagne for a massive six in the previous over.

It has come up off 64 balls with six fours and two maximums.

Into the last few overs at Sophia Gardens.

Glamorgan would love to winkle out one of these two batters before the close.

  8. wicket

WICKET Cox lbw b Dale 15published at 18:25 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Worcs 113-6 v Glos 231

This game is finely poised with the Pears about halfway towards innings parity with Gloucestershire.

Immaculate defence from Cox to see out the Zafar over.

Waite squeezes a ball from Dale behind square leg for one. Big appeal for LBW...and Cox is gone!

Caught on the crease with a ball that kept low.

The new batsman is Joe Leach.

  9. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Somerset 311-4 v Lancashire

Captain Tom Abell ends on 119, his 19-year-old junior partner James Rew has 114 and their partnership now stands at 231.

A wonderful last two sessions of Championship cricket for Somerset after they were in trouble at 24-3 and 80-4.

Lancashire have looked very weary in the last session. A penny for captain Keaton Jennings' thoughts after he asked the home team to bat first thing this morning.

  10. Plenty of work for Mahmoodpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Somerset 310-4 v Lancashire

There ends a busy day for Saqib Mahmood on his return to county cricket.

18 overs bowled is a good stint after a year out.

His figures of 0-43 are a decent effort when Somerset have batted so well in the afternoon and evening sessions, although it has been spoiled by shipping nine off his last over of the day.

It will be interesting to see how he shapes up tomorrow after a night's rest.

  11. Postpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Worcs 109-5 v Glos 231

Dale strays down leg and Cox clips the ball down to fine leg for four.

Much better line after that and Cox is beaten defending outside off.

The last ball bounces awkwardly and Cox jabs it down safely into the leg side.

    Somerset 301-4 v Lancashire

With a hundred to his name, James Rew decides to take on a short ball from George Balderson.

And he adds a six to his many fours as it flies over the fine leg boundary.

That brings up the 300 and Somerset's second batting point of the innings.

A heart in mouth moment for Cox who drives outside off and gets an inside edge through mid wicket off Zafar.

Ajeet Singh-Dale will bowl the next over. Can Gloucester get one more wicket tonight?

    8 overs left.

    Somerset 294-4 v Lancashire

    The teenager has three figures!

James Rew brings up just his second first-class ton with a glorious square drive off Saqib Mahmood.

Rew came in at 80-4 with his team in trouble and apart from that caught and bowled chance to Jimmy Anderson, he has batted superbly.

His hundred is reached off 223 balls with 14 fours.

We're not going to see any further play at Wantage Road and it is advantage Hampshire after day one.

Nick Gubbins and James Vince both made centuries - and the Hampshire skipper will resume on 104 not out on day two.

Tom Prest is the other not out batter after being drafted into the line-up in place of injured Keith Barker.

Jack White was the most successful Northants bowler with 2-68 from 17.1 overs and suffered from some lacklustre slip fielding in the morning session.

  18. Third point for Durhampublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Glamorgan v Durham 351-6

A very good day for Durham after being put into bat by Glamorgan.

A single apiece from Brydon Carse and Liam Trevaskis brings up a third batting point and their 50 partnership respectively.

Still eight overs left to play this evening.

    Worcs 90-5 v Glos 231

It's hard to remember how serene the first hour or so of the Worcester innings appeared, when Libby and Pollock added 58 for the first wicket.

De Lange is getting some bounce out of this surface - where the occasional ball has kept low.

Cox picks up a single off Tom Price to mid on. A short ball is pulled away to fine leg for one more.

Cox is beaten outside off stump. And breathe.

Durham have batted positively again today, just as they did in their opening two games.
