  3. Bad light stops play at Lord'spublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 252-5

No rain here but it's very gloomy and the umpires have taken the players off the field.

The floodlights are on but natural light is in short supply plus there's rain not too far away from us in the south east.

    Worcs 43-0 v Glos 2231

De Lange is into his 7th over at New Road and Pollock drives through the off side for his second four.

Not quite out of the middle of the bat but the ball lands safely.

Bamber bowls to Mullaney, firing a ball down the legside - and that adds four byes to the Notts total.

Duckett pulls a short ball to deep mid wicket for two to earn Notts their first batting point of the game.

    Somerset 216-4 v Lancashire

If you dig in, you get yourself a bit of luck later on and that's the case for James Rew.

He gets a genuine edge to a ball off George Balderson and it flies straight where an orthodox first slip would have been.

Rew is now up to 65.

Exquisite timing by Nick Gubbins who follows his century by late cutting an arm ball from Rob Keogh from in front of middle stump and it rolls away for four to third man.

At 42 years of age, is Gareth Berg the new Darren Stevens?

Northants very much need him to be in this season, but Nick Gubbins square cuts for a couple and reached the 14th first-class hundred of his career from 206 balls faced.

It's been a patient, but quality, knock with very few false shots. Not Bazball, but just what Hampshire ordered.

    Alsop c Bess b Hill 95 (Sussex 218-5 v Yorks)

    Would you believe it!

Yorkshire give George Hill his first over of the game straight after tea and Tom Alsop holes out to Dom Bess from his second delivery, which certainly wasn't the most threatening you will ever see.

Alsop batted for 212 minutes, faced 152 balls and hit 14 fours. Fynn Hudson-Prentice is the new batter.

  13. Composed Alsop sees off crisispublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Sussex 218-4 v Yorkshire - tea

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex commentator

It was a session that swung first the way of Yorkshire, when Pujara and Clark were dismissed, then back to Sussex with Alsop and Carter adding an undefeated 94 for the 5th wicket

Sussex supporters are so used to Pujara scoring hundreds at Hove that it was a surprise when he padded up to Jordan Thompson but having been reprieved by the umpire, there was no escape when he was trapped on the crease to the next delivery.

When Ben Coad uprooted Tom Clark's off stump Sussex looked in trouble, but Tom Alsop in his unflappable way eased them through the crisis, and is just five runs short of his ninth first class century at tea.

  14. Notts resume at Lord'spublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Notts 235-5 v Middlesex

A reminder that Middlesex chose to field first after winning the toss this morning. Four wickets in the middle session of play has just about tilted the game their way for now - but Notts have plenty of batting left, starting with Ben Duckett and Steven Mullaney.

Duckett will face Roland-Jones under rather leaden-looking skies at St John's Wood.

Nick Gubbins clips Chris Tremain off his hip for a single and Hampshire reach 200. Gubbins is now 89 not out and James Vince has 69.

    Somerset 202-4 v Lancashire

The final session begins with a wide delivery from Saqib Mahmood.

    Worcs 20-0 v Glos 231

A steady start for the Pears openers after a Tom Price inspired "bazball" knock this afternoon for the visitors.

Pollock picks up four of a thick-edged drive through the covers off Marchant de Lange, who briefly raises his hands above his head in frustration.

Chris Tremain starts the final session for Northants but drops short and James Vince bisects cover and mid-off on the back foot to pick up a boundary.

Tremain then overpitches and Vince puts it away through mid-wicket for four as he progresses to 64 not out.
