  2. Tea at Lord'spublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 235-5

Middlesex might just have their noses in front here but they will be hoping to see the back of Ben Duckett as soon as possible after the tea interval. He's on 112 not out.

Mullaney gets a thick outside edge off Andersson and the ball runs away wide of second slip for two.

Four wickets fell in the session but some fluent batting from Duckett and James in particular has given Notts valuable momentum.

  3. Tea at Hovepublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Sussex 218-4 v Yorkshire

Tom Alsop heads off for tea just five runs short of three figures after leading the Sussex fightback following a mid-session blip at Hove.

They lost Cheteshwar Pujara and Tom Clark to be 124-4, but Alsop and Oli Carter have put on 94 in 26 overs to justify the Sussex decision to bat first.

Alsop has faced exactly 150 balls so far and hit 14 boundaries.

  4. Worcestershire batting at New Roadpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Worcs 0-0 v Glos 231

Ed Pollock and Jake Libby may have expected to don the pads much earlier in the day's play.

Is 231 a competitive total? It could be and its certainly far in excess of what most observers would've predicted after a clatter of early wickets this morning.

Marchant de Lange will bowl the first over to Pollock.

  5. Postpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 233-5

Steven Mullaney is off to a bright start, driving his third ball to backward point for four runs.

One more over to go here before tea.

    Clark c Cooke b van der Gugten 8 (Glamorgan v Durham 239-5)

Timm van der Gugten puts the ball in the right place and Graham Clark feathers it behind.

There is not a huge appeal, but Clark does that most unusual thing - he walks!

  7. Labuschagne in the thick of itpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Glamorgan v Durham 237-4

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Durham have not quite kicked on as they might have hoped in the afternoon with Glamorgan’s Australian star Marnus Labuschagne in the thick of the action on his seasonal debut.

Scott Borthwick and Michael Jones looked in complete control until hard-working Aussie paceman Michael Neser induced Borthwick, on 59, to clip one to Labuschagne at mid-wicket.

Labuschagne, who has switched from leg-spin to off-spin, then won an lbw decision against Jones on 69 as the batter missed a reverse sweep - although the Durham camp thought the ball pitched outside leg.

David Bedingham also looked set when he was caught off Dan Douthwaite at mid-wicket for 28, almost inevitably by a diving Labuschagne.

Durham’s position approaching tea was still strong, with Glamorgan’s decision to bowl first looking ever more questionable.

  8. wicket

WICKET James c Simpson b Andersson 41published at 15:56 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 225-5

The end of a very promising innings - as the batsman is stuck on the crease and feathers a catch to the Middlesex keeper.

James is cross with himself and scuffs the crease with his boot as he walks away from the field.

  9. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Somerset 199-4 v Lancashire

And there ends an outstanding session for Somerset.

108 runs with no wickets down. Captain Tom Abell will have a cup of tea not out on 74 while James Rew has 57.

They will resume their partnership of 119 in 20 minutes.

  10. Postpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Sussex 201-4 v Yorkshire

Tom Alsop square cuts spinner Dom Bess for four as the Sussex total reaches 200 at Hove. Alsop is now 85 not out and has so far added 77 with Oli Carter, who is on 28.

  11. Postpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 222-4

Another stylish shot from Lyndon James, who opens the face of the bat to Ryan Higgins and punches the ball away off the back foot for four.

The batsmen take singles off the bowling of Luke Hollman at the other end - and that takes us to what some might call a "Double Nelson".

  12. Tea at Worcesterpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Gloucestershire 231 (54.4 overs) v Worcestershire

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at New Road

A splendid reception for Tom Price as he returned to the Graeme Hick Pavilion after an innings the great man himself would have been proud of.

Such a luckless way to depart in the end. But, in a little more than two hours of carnage, the Gloucestershire tail-ender has flipped this innings on its head.

From 45-7 to 231 all out, agonisingly just 19 short of a batting point, 11 fours and four sixes, the biggest of which disappeared over the stand into New Road.

Of course, Worcestershire have a few explosive shot players of their own, most notably opener Ed Pollock. And it remains to be seen what they can do in the 41 final overs of the day.

But this has to be the best innings at New Road since Ben Stokes launched the Bazball Era last May. A real treat to watch!

  13. Tea at Wantage Roadpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Northants v Hampshire 178-2

    James VinceImage source, Getty Images

A single for James Vince is all Hampshire can muster from the final over of the afternoon, but they won't care remotely about that with their skipper Nick Gubbins still together, as they were at lunch.

Their partnership is now worth 106, with Gubbins 80 not out and Vince on 56. Northants urgently need a wicket or two or this day will belong to the visitors.

  14. 6 runs

    Somerset 192-4 v Lancashire

Tom Abell shows his growing confidence by sweeping Tom Hartley over the ropes at midwicket for a maximum.

In only his third match as Lancashire's red-ball captain, Keaton Jennings is learning all about the difficulties when you cannot buy a wicket.

100 for Ben Duckettpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 208-4

    Luke Hollman to Ben Duckett...

He drives the second ball through the offside and that takes him to 99 and a 50 partnership with James.

He has to wait a couple of overs for his next run - but gets to his 24th first class century with a paddled scoop to fine leg for one.

It's his first ton at Lord's.

152 balls, 10 fours and one six.

  16. 50 runs

for James Rewpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Somerset 184-4 v Lancashire

Tom Hartley tosses one up and James Rew is in no doubt. This one has to go.

One bounce over the rope down the ground and his 10th four brings up his 50 off 119 balls.

It's only a second first-class half-century for the 19-year-old wicketkeeper and he has batted very nicely in tandem with Somerset skipper Tom Abell.

  17. Latest from Cardiffpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Glamorgan v Durham 218-4

Another one gone at Sophia Gardens as David Bedingham - on 28 - chips a catch to mid-wicket. It is a first success for Dan Douthwaite and Graham Clark comes out to join Ollie Robinson.

  18. Hants pair post century standpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 172-2

Nick Gubbins chops a ball from Rob Keogh to the third man boundary as he and James Vince bring up a 100 stand at Wantage Road.

Northants haven't managed to take a wicket so far in this session and those four dropped catches could be coming back to haunt them at close of play, like characters from the BBC sitcom Ghosts.

  19. wicket

WICKET T Price run out (Waite) 109published at 15:36 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Worcs v Glos 231

Sorry, folks. The fairy tale is over.

Dale drives the ball straight back to Waite, who gets a hand on the ball before it clatters into the stumps at the non striker's end.

Run out backing up. Can you believe it?

231 is still an awesome recovery from the depths of 89-8 though.

Fantastic knock by Tom Price. That's tea at New Road.

  20. 100 runs

    Somerset 180-4 v Lancashire

Tom Abell nudges a single off Tom Hartley to bring up the century stand between him and James Rew.

A terrific fightback from Somerset with these two.
