    Somerset 75-3 v Lancashire

A good fightback from the home side from 24-3, led by Tom Kohler-Cadmore, as he and Tom Abell bring up their half-century stand.

Abell brings up with a nice clip through midwicket. He has 13 and Kohler-Cadmore has 33.

    Middlesex v Notts 86-0

Leg spinner Luke Hollman comes into the Middlesex attack to replace Ryan Higgins.

A short ball is slammed into the leg side and brilliantly stopped at mid wicket.

The third ball is also short and pulled in front of square by Duckett for four.

Duckett swings away for a two and a one off the next two balls.

Haines lbw Bess 48 (Sussex 83-2 v Yorks)

Tom Haines misses out on a half-century at Hove as spinner Dom Bess has him leg-before. Haines hit a six and eight fours to lay the foundation for a big score and he'll be disappointed to miss out.

The reassuring figure of Cheteshwar Pujara strides to the middle for the home side.

    Middlesex v Notts 79-0

Hameed clips Higgins down to long leg as the ball skims along the ground to the Warner Stand for four runs.

Duckett aborts a pull shot at the last moment off Andersson at the other end.

Later in the over he drives the bowler through the covers for three after an athletic stop in front of the pavilion by Bamber.

  5. Chilly in the slipspublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Kent v Essex 95-1

Despite the sunshine, it's a little chilly in the field in Canterbury.

The slip fielders are in position with snoods and hand warmers not to get too cold.

They have to stand and watch as a full ball from Joey Evison is crashed to the fence by Nick Browne.

  6. Fifty stand for Hampshirepublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 54-1

Ben Sanderson errs onto leg stump and Nick Gubbins flicks it away fine for four, the fourth boundary of his innings, to post a 50 partnership with Felix Organ for Hampshire.

Gubbins is 20 not out - 10 fewer than his partner.

Tight stuff from Saqib Mahmood. Just four runs conceded from his first three overs.

Lancashire would love another Somerset wicket before lunch.

  8. Bright and breezy in Cardiffpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Durham 59-1 v Glamorgan

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Glamorgan have welcomed back Australians Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser for this one. Labuschagne, who is good pals with the Durham spinner Matt Kuhnemann, is the world's number one Test batsman and is gearing up for The Ashes. Neser wasn't named in their initial squad, though.

Durham were put in on a sunny, but chilly morning in Cardiff. They have been ordered to leave Matty Potts out by the ECB, so Brydon Carse, who was rested last week, is his replacement.

It seems a strange decision asking Potts to sit out a game after just two matches, but there you have it.

One wicket has fallen so far. Alex Lees looked stunned to be given out lbw on 24 to Timm Van Der Gugten by umpire Neil Mallender. I thought it looked too high.

The bowler should have had a second wicket in his third over, but Kiran Carlson couldn't hold onto an edge from Scott Borthwick at third slip when the batsman was on two.

    Kent v Essex 83-1

Joey Evison comes into the attack to Tom Westley.

The slips are very interested as he gets one past Westley's bat, but the umpire is not.

Just one off the over as Kent try to apply the brakes to Essex's fast start.

    Northants v Hants 50-1

Ben Sanderson doesn't have the highest arm but he is a fine practitioner of the art of seam bowling.

He is angling the ball in towards Nick Gubbins' pads and although the left-hander doesn't need to play at the final delivery, that is a very good maiden - 0-10 from seven so far by Sanderson.

    Worcs v Glos 32-6

Soft dismissal for the Gloucestershire captain, who top edges a pull off Dillon Pennington and skies a simple catch to the Pears keeper.

Zafar Gohar is a more than handy number eight and is badly needed to lead a resurgence with Jack Taylor.

    Kent v Essex 82-1

    Alex Hoad
    BBC Sport at Canterbury

If you'd told Kent they would only allow 23 scoring shots in the opening 18 overs today they'd have probably been quite content.

The fact that Essex averaged more than 3.5 runs from each of them will be a point of frustration, however.

Incredibly the first single of the match arrived to Tom Westley three balls into the 18th over.

By contrast 17 fours have been allowed, several of them gift-wrapped in the early stages, if truth be told.

Joey Evison, so close to a maiden Kent first-class century in the rearguard in Birmingham last Sunday, is second change with the ball.

    Middlesex v Notts 67-0

Ryan Higgins is bowling round the wicket and Duckett compounds Middlesex frustration with a neat paddle to fine leg for four.

He tries to cut the fifth ball past gully but end up squirting the ball into the ground in front of second slip.

    Sussex 68-1 v Yorks

Two streaky boundaries to fine leg for Tom Alsop off Mickey Edwards.

Time for spin at Hove as Yorkshire call up Dom Bess, whose first over yields only a single. Alsop is 12 not out and Tom Haines has 35.

First maximum of the match at the County Ground.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore launches George Balderson over the ropes as he skips down the pitch to the medium-pacer. That is disdainful!

TKC has launched a useful counter-attack here with 24 off 21 balls.

    Definitely displaying his attacking instincts.

    Middlesex v Notts 63-0

Hameed plays a lovely flick off Andersson into the leg side between mid wicket and mid on for four to move on to 26 not out. He moves to 30 with a full blooded square cut for four.

Duckett has been becalmed a little bit after a bright start at the other end - but still has 31 off 48 balls.

    Great start for Notts.

  17. Happy birthday, Dickiepublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

We have been taken to task for failing to mention the birthday of umpire Dickie Bird, who was 90 years young yesterday.

He stood in 66 Tests and three World Cup finals. A legend of the game.

    Northants v Hants 49-1

Chris Tremain thinks he has Nick Gubbins, but the umpire rejects his lbw appeal. This has been a tidy spell so far by the Australian, just nine runs conceded from four overs.

But Northants must be rueing those earlier dropped catches off Jack White.

Here's the state of play at Cardiff and New Road...

Worcestershire are in complete control at home against Gloucestershire, where the visitors are reeling on 30-5.

Two wickets for Ben Gibbon and three for Joe Leach to date.

Gloucester captain Graeme van Buuren is resisting on 14 not out.

Durham have reached 46-1 against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

The wicket to fall was Alex Lees, LBW to Timm van der Gugten.

    Somerset 48-3 v Lancashire

Jimmy Anderson's opening spell is over. His figures - 7-2-13-2.

Saqib Mahmood replaces him for his first spell of Championship bowling since last April.
