    Northants v Hants 21-1

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Hampshire have handed a first game of the season to England Lions batter Tom Prest. He comes in for bowling all-rounder Keith Barker.

Barker misses out after having both hands fractured following the bouncer barrage he received whilst batting at the Oval last week.

One bowler down means James Fuller and Ian Holland will share more of the workload

    Middlesex v Notts 32-0

Hameed drives Bamber down the ground to pick up his third four and move on to 15.

Duckett has 17 runs off 20 balls to date.

Confident stroke - and Notts are looking comfortable at present.

    Sussex 41-0 v Yorkshire

Yorkshire finally find a way to steam the flurry of Sussex boundaries at Hove as Matt Fisher sends down a maiden to Ali Orr.

Jordan Thompson is now on at the other end after a three-over burst by Ben Coad.

  4. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 21-1

Felix Organ hasn't had the best of starts to the season - his highest score in his first four innings was 11.

He pushes Jack White away for two at the start of a new over, then whips away through mid-wicket for a couple more. Six from it and the right-hander advances to 15 not out.

  5. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Kent v Essex 31-0

No surprise really that Kent have already made a bowling change.

Nathan Gilchrist has been hooked after three expensive overs and Conor McKerr has been thrown the ball.

    McKerr starts with a maiden.

Here's the latest from Cardiff and New Road...

Gloucestershire are having a nightmare start at New Road, where the Pears have reduced them to 8-4.

Two wickets apiece for Ben Gibbon and Joe Leach.

Miles Hammond was caught by Jake Libby at fourth slip for four.

Marcus Harris was pinned LBW for a single off 25 balls.

Durham are looking a tad more comfortable against Glamorgan at Cardiff - where the visitors are on 28-0.

    Somerset 16-1 v Lancashire

Cameron Bancroft has made a cautious start in Taunton.

He was almost involved in a run out with Tom Lammonby and survived a big LBW shout from Jimmy Anderson.

He has five from his first 15 deliveries.

WICKET Hammond c Libby b Leach 4published at 11:26 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Worcs v Glos 5-3

The nightmare continues as Miles Hammond aims a flashing drive off Joe Leach and edges to Jake Libby at fourth slip.

  9. Cook off to a flying startpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Kent v Essex 27-0

Sir Alastair Cook has raced to 23 off 18 balls.

He has taken a fancy to Nathan Gilchrist's bowling, with 15 scored off his last over, including three boundaries, one of which was a lovely checked off-drive.

  10. Postpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 14-1

Jack White is really hustling in for Northants, who have four slips waiting to snaffle anything that comes their way. Nick Gubbins is solidly behind the final two balls of his third over and is four not out, with Felix Organ on eight.

  11. Postpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 21-0

Ben Duckett looks to be in the mood here as he advances to double figures with another crisp drive into the covers for two.

Roland-Jones retains a miserly line and length at the other end - until the fourth ball, which is a little fuller and driven through the off side for four through the covers.

Four more through the same region.

Wes Agar delivered 16 dot balls to begin his stint in England. Nick Browne finally cuts him away for four to get off the mark himself from the 17th ball he's faced.

Agar arrived in the UK last weekend while Kent were battling, ultimately in vain, to salvage a draw at Edgbaston.

He'd boarded a plane at Adelaide, where it's officially five degrees warmer than Canterbury, but feels like 15 this morning.

He's still in short sleeves though. Hardy sort.

    D2: Sussex 29-0 v Yorks

Full-on Bazball at the moment at Hove where Ali Orr drills the first ball of a new Ben Coad over down the ground for four. That's the sixth boundary of the morning for Sussex. He is 11 not out and Tom Haines has 17.

  14. Bancroft out to make up for Ashes omissionpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Somerset 11-1 v Lancashire

Somerset's new batter is Australia international Cameron Bancroft.

He scored 945 runs at 59 in the Sheffield Shield over the winter - nearly 300 more than the next best.

But that is not enough to get him in the Ashes squad for the first two matches and the World Test Championship final against India at The Oval.

A heap of runs in the County Championship may keep him in the selectors' minds if they need reinforcements for the second half of the series.

  16. Horror start for Gloucestershirepublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Worcs v Glos 0-2

The Pears have two wickets in two balls as Chris Dent is caught by Jack Haynes off Ben Gibbon.

James Bracey edges his first ball to Jake Libby in the gully.

  17. Postpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    D2: Sussex 7-0 v Yorks

Yorkshire have England paceman Matt Fisher in their side at Hove, but he gives up the game's first boundary to Tom Haines.

The former Sussex skipper helps himself to two more to end the next from Ben Coad and just like that, he's 13 not out.

  18. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 11-0

Close call for Duckett - who edges a four between keeper and first slip.

The ball quite possibly bounced in front of first slipper Eskinazi.

That's more like it. Bamber offers a fuller delivery and Duckett drives confidently through cover for four.

WICKETpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Dickson lbw b Anderson 0 (Somerset 5-1 v Lancashire)

Death, taxes and Jimmy Anderson striking with the new ball!

Sean Dickson is trapped on the pads and has nowhere to go. Typical Anderson - on the spot and too good for the batter.

  20. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 20 April 2023

    Somerset 5-0 v Lancashire

Tom Bailey is sharing the new ball with Jimmy Anderson.

He bowls a decent first over to Tom Lammonby, although the Somerset opener gets the first boundary of the match as he squirts one down to the vacant area at third.
