    Somerset 339-6 v Lancashire

Lovely shot by Somerset number eight Kasey Aldridge with a classic on-drive for four off Tom Bailey.

With Tom Abell so well set at the other end, the lower order players may have licence to play a few shots.

A little bit of nibble for Ben Sanderson as Tom Prest pushes forward and Hassan Azad snaffles the chance at second slip.

A good sign for Northants perhaps after they put down four catches yesterday.

    Northants v Hants 303-4

One or two plays and misses by the Hampshire batters but James Vince picks up his first boundary of the day off Ben Sanderson.

He takes a couple of steps down the track in the next from Jack White and adds four more from a thick edge along the ground to third man. He is 114 not out and the visitors have a second batting point.

  4. wicket

WICKET Gregory lbw b Anderson 5published at 11:37 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 332-6 v Lancashire

    That is absolutely plumb!!

Jimmy Anderson gets one to nip in past Lewis Gregory's defences and he has his man. You don't have to be a professional umpire to give that one out.

A fourth wicket of the innings for him and a second bowling point for Lancashire.

  5. Postpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 331-5 v Lancashire

    Wallop!

Tom Bailey goes wider on the crease but his ball offers width to new batter Lewis Gregory and he obliges with a crunching drive.

Don't bother running for that one!

  6. Hampshire resume at Northamptonpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 292-4

We have play at Wantage Road.

Jack White has the ball and Hampshire skipper James Vince helps himself to one from his opening delivery - he is now 105 not out.

Tom Prest is the other not out batter and collects the day's first boundary to get off the mark.

It is unclear (journo-speak for 'we don't know') what prompted Peter Siddle's pre-play hilarity at Taunton. Presumably not the names in Australia's squad for the Ashes series later this summer.

  8. Raining at Cardiffpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Glamorgan v Durham 382-6

Very frustrating for both sides, and perhaps Durham in particular after one of their best batting performances at Sophia Gardens.

Their Cardiff record of 521-9 declared was set way back in their first Championship year (1992) when a chap called IT Botham chipped in with 40 off 30 balls.

  9. rain stops play

No play before lunch in Canterburypublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Kent v Essex 164-1

As expected, news has come through that there will be no play this morning in Canterbury.

There will be an inspection at 13:00 BST if there is no rain before then.

  10. No play before lunch at New Roadpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Worcs 118-7 v Glos 231

The outfield is very damp so this was always likely.

A bit of an extended break for Gloucester all-rounder Tom Price.

He had a rather busy day yesterday.

    Did we mention that?

  11. wicket

WICKET Rew c Bell b Anderson 117published at 11:18 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 324-5 v Lancashire

Lancashire claim a first wicket since shortly before lunch yesterday!

James Rew plays at one slightly away from his body on the drive and he edges through to the wicketkeeper.

But that is a terrific knock from the 19-year-old - a career-best score in a partnership of 244 for the fifth wicket alongside Tom Abell.

Rew lasted 253 balls for his 117, with 17 fours and one six for good measure.

A first wicket of today, and third of the innings for Jimmy Anderson.

  12. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 324-4 v Lancashire

Tom Abell with a thick outside edge that would have been gobbled up by second or third slip.

They are not there. It's what happens when the score is 320-4 and the batter is on 125 not out.

But he gets a much nicer boundary with a sweet shot through the covers.

  13. Bonus points explainedpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 316-4 v Lancashire

James Rew gets up and running on day two with a nice push down the ground for three off Tom Bailey.

The first hour of play this morning will be the last chance to get bonus points in this Somerset innings before we reach the 110-over cut off.

Somerset currently have two batting points. They will get one more if they reach 350 and two more if they get to 400. The maximum of five for reaching 450 looks unrealistic.

Lancashire need two more wickets to get a second bowling point. They require five to claim the full three points on offer.

  14. Better news from Northamptonpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Northants v Hampshire 287-4

The umpires have taken a look and providing there is no more rain, play will get under way at 11:30 BST.

James Vince and Tom Prest will resume their innings for the visitors.

  15. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 312-4 v Lancashire

Tom Abell gets the first run of day two as he squirts one down towards deep square off Jimmy Anderson.

It's the only run of the first over.

  16. Play in Tauntonpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 311-4 v Lancashire

Umpires? Check. Fielding team? Check. Batters? Check.

Looks like we are good to go in Taunton.

Tom Abell is going to take strike first up against Jimmy Anderson.

  17. Rain delay at New Roadpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Worcs 118-7 v Glos 231 - trail by 113

Nrew RoadImage source, Ged Scott - BBC Sport

The pick of the games yesterday - given the performance of Gloucestershire all-rounder Tom Price.

A maiden century and a hat trick on the same day no less!

Only three players have raised their bat for a ton and taken a hat-trick on the same day before - and one of them also played for Gloucestershire.

You may have heard of him - the great Mike Procter.

Rain has been hosing down in much of the county this morning. It has all but stopped at New Road now - but it is very wet, there are pools on the covers and the forecast does not look good, either for today or the scheduled final day on Sunday.

  18. rain stops play

Delayed start at Hovepublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 275-5 v Yorkshire

There was hope of a prompt start at Hove but rain arrived in the last few minutes and the covers are now on.

Oli Carter (60 not out) and Fynn Hudson-Prentice (32) are the two not out batsmen for Sussex.

  19. Rain delay at Cardiffpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Glamorgan v Durham 382-6

The good news is that the rain is described as "light" by our commentator Nick Webb.

Hopefully just a short delay. The light will need to improve a bit, though.

Durham batters Liam Trevaskis (41 not out) and Brydon Carse (53 not out) will hope to resume the run feast and get maximum bonus points later today.

Carse is already on his highest ever first class score.

Trevaskis needs another 48 to better his previous best of 88, made against Sussex last season at Hove.
