    Kent v Essex 194-1

You really have to feel for Nathan Gilchrist at the moment.

Tom Westley slices one past the cordon, the first of three fours in his latest over.

There is nothing streaky about the other two, a square cut and an authoritative pull as the Essex skipper reaches 88 not out.

  2. Postpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire 115-0

Luke Wells continues his assault on Jack Leach as he absolutely drills one past the fielder at mid-off for four more.

Five more off Leach's over and he continues to go at more than a run-a-ball.

Seven overs to go until the tea interval.

    Middlesex v Notts 331-6

Duckett is beaten twice outside off stump by Roland-Jones but he's still there on 155 not out.

Perhaps one more over from the Middlesex captain?

Patterson-White pulls Bamber away to square leg for one and Duckett swings a short ball away through mid wicket to move to 159. He's scored 40 today since the start of play today.

    Kent v Essex 182-1

Wes Agar is showing plenty of hostility at Canterbury, striking Nick Browne on the body and sending a couple past his nose in a maiden over for Kent.

There are 42 overs to bowl and the home side could do with a wicket or two very soon.

The teams are facing a lengthy final session following the latest squally shower at Wantage Road.

The rain blew through quickly and the umpires decided to take an early tea, with play due to resume at 15:45 BST.

It means a further six overs have been lost with 51 now scheduled to be bowled before the close.

Hampshire have already batted themselves into a strong position and their bowling attack could have the opportunity to make substantial inroads into the home side's top order, assuming the rain stays away.

  6. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 361 v Yorks 40-0

Big appeal for caught behind against Adam Lyth off Robinson but Umpire White says no.

Frustrating times for Sussex after a heartening batting display for their 10th wicket earlier today.

  7. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Kent v Essex 182-1

Three slips are in place but Nathan Gilchrist overpitches and Tom Westley clips through mid-on for four runs.

Nothing doing from an lbw shout that follows and Gilchrist then loses his line and sends down two successive wides.

Westley is 76 not out and Nick Browne has 65.

  8. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 361 v Yorks 38-0

Another no ball from Robinson, who drifts into leg stump and Lyth glances the ball away for four.

How costly will that missed chance off Finlay Bean cost? Two chances in fact, with one going straight to a leg slip and the other going just past the fielder in the same region.

He's unbeaten on 11 and sees out the Hudson-Prentice over.

150 for Ben Duckettpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 324-6

Ben Duckett pounces on a bit of width from Toby Roland-Jones and thrashes the Middlesex captain through cover for his 15th four. He's also hit one six.

That's 150 in 222 balls for the Notts and England opener.

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire 101-0

This is an intriguing battle between Luke Wells and Jack Leach.

The England spinner feels that he can get his man, but Wells is not going to sit and block.

He comes down the track and hits a huge six back over the bowler's head. Boom!

Wells again uses his feet and drives Leach down the ground for four more to bring up the 100-partnership for him and Keaton Jennings.

Leach's four overs have gone for 31.

  11. Postpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

Patterson-White is off the mark with a drive down the ground for four off a full length ball from Bamber.

He sees out the over and Duckett is on 149.

We asked you whether there is any chance of James Vince returning to England's Test team, following his 186 at Northampton. Here's one view on that question.

From Matt: "#bbccricket, external Would love to see Vince back in the Test side. True, he hasn’t scored the international runs he should have. Sadly, he’s now in a position where previous failures means he never gets a decent run before being dropped. Unlike our current openers…"

    Kent v Essex 176-1

It's a costly opening over from Nathan Gilchrist at Canterbury, which costs him 11 runs, including two fours in a row by Nick Browne.

The Kent paceman's figures are 0-77 from 15.

  14. 'Formidable' pair make good startpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 441 v Lancs 85-0

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

Lancashire's opening pair of Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells average over 50 for the first wicket. The similarities between the two, both tall left handers, don't appear to make it any easier for the bowlers.

They play differently, perhaps Wells is the more attacking and Jennings a little more cautious, but either way both are outstanding run makers and look like a formidable duo.

Get one early or they tend to make you pay.

    WICKET Mullaney lbw b Roland-Jones 46published at 15:18 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Middlesex 315-6 v Notts

Mullaney is beaten by a ball that moves down the Lord's slope and into the pads.

Big breakthrough for Middlesex with Duckett 148 not out at the other end.

    Liam Patterson-White will bat next.

for Luke Wellspublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire 85-0

How else would Luke Wells get a half-century than with a reverse sweep?!

Four more off Jack Leach takes him to his first 50 of the summer, and the 41st of his red-ball career.

It's come off 78 balls and is giving Lancashire a good platform as they react to Somerset's large total.

  17. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Kent v Essex 164-1

We have had a very long wait for play at Canterbury, with only 42 overs possible on day one and a session and a half gone AWOL today. The teams are now out there, though, with play scheduled until a 4:40pm tea and a maximum of 47 overs to be bowled.

Wes Agar takes up the attack for Kent, bowling to Nick Browne on 54 not out.

  18. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire 80-0

Another good over for Lancashire sees them pick up 10 runs.

A couple of buffet balls from Kasey Aldridge allows Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings to get a boundary apiece.

Aldridge also has an LBW shout against Wells, but it pitched outside leg.

  19. Postpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 361 v Yorks 26-0

Frustration for Robinson as Lyth is up on his toes, steering a ball behind gully for four runs.

Lyth picks up one more off the third.

A single off a no-ball to Finlay Bean.

Disappointing to lose a complete second day's play at Worcester after such a memorable opening day at New Road.

"It was all a bit surreal" was the verdict of Gloucestershire hero Tom Price after his astonishing feats with bat and ball.

After coming in at number nine to hit a maiden century, he then took a hat-trick - Azhar Ali, Jack Haynes and Brett D'Oliveira all caught behind - as his four-wicket haul helped put Worcestershire on the back foot at stumps.

"It won't sink in for a while," he told BBC Sport. "I'll wake up in five minutes and it will all feel like a dream. It has been an amazing day. I'm pretty tired but pretty delighted."

It is actually the fifth time a player has raised his bat for a century and got a hat-trick on the same day, but three of the previous batsmen had been not out overnight. All cricket legends - former Warwickshire, Worcestershire and England captain RES ‘Bob’ Wyatt, Lord Learie Constantine of Nelson and the West Indies - and Gloucestershire and South Africa star Mike Procter.

And he is only the second to hit all 100 runs and take a hat-trick on the same day, this feat having first been performed by Mohammad Mahmudullah for Central Zone against Central Zone in the Bangladesh League in May 2014.
