  1. Was Jennings' injury key moment of match?published at 10:55 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

We are looking set fair for play to start at 11.00 BST at Taunton for the final day of this Championship match.

Somerset resume 72 runs behind Lancashire with ten wickets in hand as they try to bat their way to safety.

The turning point of yesterday and possibly the match was when Keaton Jennings retired hurt with the Lancashire score 413-2.

He was batting beautifully and the home attack was flagging. From the moment he limped off with a hamstring injury, Somerset had the better of the day.

Rather than facing 600-odd, they limited Lancashire to a lead of just over 100 and made good inroads before play was curtailed for rain and bad light.

  3. Pitch tough for bowlers - McGrathpublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

Kent 342-7 v Essex 451-5 dec (at close on day three)

    Anthony McGrathImage source, Rex Features

Essex head coach Anthony McGrath acknowledged it has been hard work for the bowlers after the third day's play at Canterbury.

Even spin bowler Simon Harmer took some punishment before responding for figures of 4-141 - and he will be looking to complete yet another five-for on the final day.

“With the amount of time lost in the game we wanted to get to 450 as quickly as possible and then make inroads into their batting," McGrath told BBC Essex Sport.

"We did the first part but it’s a good surface and we saw that with the way they batted. Both sides were eyeing-up bonus points from the time it was possible to play.”

  4. Delay expected at Hovepublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Yorks 138-3 (Target 201)

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Bad news for Yorkshire fans, I'm afraid. Over to you, Jonathan...

"It rained quite heavily last night. It's been raining heavily all morning so far. So prospects for play are clearly in the balance.

The forecast seems to suggest the rain is going to be set in till something like 12, 1 o'clock - and then there's going to be a fair old clean up operation to do, if indeed it's deemed that is possible."

  5. Gloucs have 'fighting chance' of win - Dalepublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

Gloucestershire paceman Ajeet Singh Dale was content just to "put in a contribution for the team" after returning career-best figures of 6-41 on the third day at New Road.

The 22-year-old is only playing his 12th first-class match and said he just tried "to be relentless" on an off-stump line and "slightly back of a length".

He told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "Edges were carrying and a few were nipping back, it was a nice wicket to bowl on. It's pleasing to get a five-for early on in the season.

"We're confident we're in a position where we can definitely set up the game to try and bowl them out. The weather we can't control but we'll do what we can to put us in the best position going into the last session with a fighting chance to win."

  6. Weather outlookpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

It was raining in Northamptonshire overnight, but it came too late to save them following Hampshire's three-day win on Saturday.

"It's a rather unsettled day ahead, with showers or longer spells of rain in the forecast. Some glimpses of sunshine are likely too" - that is the BBC Weather take on today's outlook.

Let's hope it won't prevent us getting one or two exciting finishes in our six remaining games.

  7. 'Funky fields' hold key for Durhampublished at 10:40 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

Glamorgan 153-5 v Durham 471-9 dec (after third day's play)

    Brydon CarseImage source, Getty Images

Durham all-rounder Brydon Carse believes they can still force a win at Sophia Gardens despite further weather hold-ups on day three.

He made 91 and then took the wicket of Sam Northeast as Glamorgan reached stumps facing the threat of having to follow-on.

"Disappointed not to get a 100, but we were aiming to get past 450, and then to go out and get five wickets in the way we did was good work from the boys," Carse told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"We were going to be quite funky with our fields, just adapt to the game and change things up because there's not a great deal in the wicket. We still feel we can create a chance to win this game."

  8. Shorter run-up feels good for Besspublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Sussex 361 & 137 v Yorks 298 & 138-3 (at close on day three)

    Dom BessImage source, Rex Features

A change of run-up paid off for Yorkshire spinner Dom Bees as his 3-36 helped set up a push towards victory - weather permitting - against Sussex.

"I changed my run-up half-way through yesterday (day two) and came off three metres shorter and it just felt really good. I feel I'm building into the summer nicely now," he told BBC West Yorkshire Sport.

The White Rose need another 63 runs, weather permitting, to complete their first Championship win for over a year.

"They were 40-0 and then we took eight wickets in a session. If you want to dominate this division - there's nothing to lose because no-one is going to get relegated so everyone's looking for promotion - they're the sort of days you need because people are going to come quite hard at you and I think we handled it beautifully," Bess added.

It's St George's Day today - and we only have two Georges involved in our six matches, Messrs Balderson and Bell of Lancashire.

No doubt they'll be hoping for a few wickets and catches in Somerset's second innings at Taunton.
