    Stoneman lbw b Paterson 43 (Middlesex 82-2) Target - 249

Broad is going for seven an over here I'd still be a bit surprised if he was taken off.

Dane Paterson bowling for now... and he strikes with his third ball!

A swipe to leg is missed and Stoneman is struck back in his crease in front of middle and leg.

Crucial strike for Notts. Max Holden is in now.

    Lloyd c Trevaskis b Coughlin 31 (Glamorgan 305 & 66-5 v Durham 471-9 dec)

Poor shot by David Lloyd, who pulls a ball from Paul Coughlin straight to Liam Trevaskis. An unnecessary dismissal and especially so as he is the only Glamorgan batter to have made a start in this innings.

They are still 100 runs behind as Chris Cooke joins Billy Root. That's 3-20 for Coughlin now.

  3. 6 runs

Broad punished by Stonemanpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Middlesex 81-1 (Target 249) - 29 overs left

Stoneman heaves Broad over to mid wicket but it's a very defensive field now and only brings a single.

The singles are flowing though - and here's another boundary as Stoneman is well forward to smear Broad's fifth ball over mid-wicket for six!

Excellent pick up shot. Two more driven through the off side. Good running.

    Somerset 441 & 211-6 v Lancashire 554

Successive boundaries from Kasey Aldridge off Tom Hartley edges the lead close to three figures.

He has faced some hostile stuff from Saqib Mahmood, but Aldridge is playing a very good hand for his team.

He's up to 26 and this partnership is worth a valuable 42 runs.

  5. Postpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Somerset 441 & 202-6 v Lancashire 554

Five overs left until the new ball for Lancashire.

Their tactic seems to be bowling dry until they get the new cherry and then have a final crack at running through these last four wickets.

Somerset are far closer to safety than Lancashire are to victory.

    Middlesex 69-1 (Target 249) - 30 overs left

No close catchers at all for Notts now as Dane Paterson replaces Hutton in the Notts attack.

A strangled appeal for LBW - and it looked close. Either just missing leg or Stoneman got a bit of bat on that.

Notts are starting to apply the squeeze here. A swish and miss by Malan on the leg side.

Just two runs off the over.

  7. Postpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Middlesex 67-1 (Target 249) - 31 overs left

Broad on for his fifth over. Stoneman forces the first ball out to point for one.

Both batters are scoring at more than a run a ball and Middlesex are comfortably keeping up with the rate.

Malan mistimes a pull and is struck on the thigh pad. It's not an easy game, this.

A tap to mid wicket and a slight mis-field from Patterson-White brings one more run.

Broad though he had an LBW shout off the last ball - and Malan is awarded a run with a flick to leg.

Four off the over. Calmer waters compared to what has come before.

  8. WORCESTERSHIRE DRAW WITH GLOUCESTERSHIREpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Worcestershire 157 & 51-4 v Gloucestershire 231 & 226-4 dec

Cricketers are used to the vagaries of the weather, but Gloucestershire must be feeling pretty aggrieved as the umpires abandon the game at New Road.

Having declared to set Worcestershire a target of 301, they shook up the home side with some hostile bowling before lunch, especially from Marchant de Lange, who forced Brett D'Oliveira to retire hurt after striking him on the hand.

Tom Price took 2-19 to go with his opening-day century and hat-trick.

They will start a game against Sussex at Bristol on Thursday, with Worcestershire taking on the men from Hove a week later.

From Peter: "Bad luck Glos, was an impressive hailstorm that saved Worcestershire though #bbccricket, external."

    Somerset 441 & 200-6 v Lancashire 554

A single for Kasey Aldridge is followed by two off the last ball of the over to bring up the innings' 200.

More importantly, the advantage is 87 with four wickets left and 34 overs left.

    Middlesex 63-1 (Target 249) - 32 overs left

Two more for Malan cut to backward point.

Hutton bangs the ball in very short and that's called as a no ball.

Stoneman keeps the strike with a neat push to mid off for one.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Carlson c Clark b Carse 7 (Glamorgan 305 & 54-4 v Durham 471-9 dec)

He made a century earlier in the day but not this time.

Durham's field placing is perfect as Kiran Carlson steers a ball from Brydon Carse into the hands of Graham Clark at leg-slip.

This is a magnificent effort by Durham, who are scenting victory as Billy Root comes out to bat.

Middlesex on the chargepublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Middlesex 57-1 (Target 249) - 32.4 overs left

A half shout for LBW against Malan, who squeezes the ball out with bat first then pad.

The second ball is lifted gloriously over mid wicket for six!

  14. Latest from Worcesterpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Worcs 157 & 51-4 v Gloucs 231 & 226-4 dec

Looks like Gloucestershire may be denied by the weather at New Road.

It's raining again and the only things out in the middle are the covers and the groundstaff.

  15. Postpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Middlesex 51-1 (Target 249) - 33 overs left

    Can Broad keep Stoneman quiet?

Not this time - as Stoneman drives hard and gets a thick outside edge behind point for four.

Broad is doing the "double teapot."

A heave to mid on for one more. Malan heaves the next ball to square leg and there's a sprint for two as the batters just beat a very sharp return throw from Ben Duckett.

The fifth ball is slightly overpitched and punched through mid wicket for four.

The innings 50 comes in 41 balls! 12 runs off the over.

    Middlesex 39-1 (Target 249) - 34 overs left

Pieter Malan gets away with a single off a slower ball, nudged very late through to mid wicket.

Hutton is round the wicket to Stoneman who tries to glance the ball to leg and misses.

A half LBW shout is turned down and there's a leg bye. The sun is out and Malan is down the wicket playing and missing and the ball goes through to the keeper.

Singles off the next two balls and Stoneman will have the strike.

  18. Postpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Middlesex 35-1 (Target 249) - 35 overs left

Pieter Malan sees out the over from Broad with some alarm, as the fifth ball is nudged very late into the ground at mid wicket.

He's off the mark with a single to the same region next ball.

Stoneman is 23 not out off 14 balls and Notts will be glad he's not on strike.

  19. Further inspection at Hovepublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 23 April 2023

    Sussex 361 & 137 v Yorkshire 298 & 138-3

The umpires haven't given up hope of play.

Having taken a look at 3.45, they will do so again at 4.30,

Yorkshire need another 63 to win and must be desperate to get out there.

    Eskinazi lbw Broad 11 (Middlesex 34-1 - target 249)

Eskinazi tickles a leg side ball round the corner and the ball just beats Ben Slater to the rope for four.

Big appeal for lbw next ball - and Eskinazi is gone!

Full, straight and swinging into the pads. Middle stump for sure.

Broad has five wickets in the match. Pieter Malan is in next.
