Well what a day that was.

    1,000 wickets for Tim Murtagh.

    Three three-day wins!

    And only two games left.

In a week's progamme that only listed five matches, for some so far unexplained reason, that leaves us with only two games to talk about tomorrow.

The BBC weather app shows lots of sunny symbols for Leicester.

It doesn’t look quite so promising for Bristol. Some ummistakably rainy looking clouds on that particular map.

But please do join us again at about 10:45 tomorrow morning and we will take you through it all, ball by ball.

  3. Close of play at Nevil Roadpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 198-9 (78 overs)

Well that is it for the day at Bristol.

A long day - and a very good day for Sussex, and especlally their skipper Cheteshwar Pujara.

From 99-1, triggered by substitute fielder Tom Clark’s sensational run-out that got rid of Aussie opener Marcus Harris (which maybe brought back some memories of another sub fielder Gary Pratt and another more famous Aussie Ricky Ponting in 2005) the hosts have stumbled to 198-9.

Gloucestershire still trail Sussex by 257 runs with one day left - and have a long way to go to saving this game.

  4. Two overs left at Bristolpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 190-9 (76 overs)

Just two more overs to go in Bristol, in relatively good light.

Rather nice that, after all the weather-related woes they have had at Nevil Road this season, they are now the only ones playing tonight.

  5. A chastening defeat for Kent at Lord'spublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex (229 & 86-1, 19 pts) beat Kent (186 & 128, 3 pts) by nine wickets

    Alex Hoad
    BBC Radio Kent at Lord's

There are a lot of long faces clattering those big kit bags down the steps past the Long Room.

Kent had pegged this as an important game to win before the season even started. They ended up losing it by nine wickets inside three days.

The visitors had a lead of 96 when Middlesex were six down on the second afternoon but Ryan Higgins' 71, Luke Hollman (32) and even Tom Helm's 20 ultimately took the game out of their reach.

They will of course also look long and hard at the collapse from 87-2 to 128 all out as five of their line-up failed to trouble the scorers. After a week off next week they then face Hampshire and Surrey at Canterbury.

Those two tests will be even sterner than this one - and they failed it comprehensively.

Middlesex also have a week off but, after winning twice in six days against Notts and Kent, they might wish they didn't.

  6. wicket

WICKET - De Lange b McAndrew 4published at 18:34 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 187-9 (72.5 overs)

Marchant De Lange is ninth man out as he has his furniture rearranged by Aussie paceman Nathan McAndrew.

    From 99-1 to 187-8.

Eight wickets have gone down for just 88 - and it is a five-fer for McAndrew.

    Last man is Ajeet Singh-Dale.

    Could Gloucestershire bat again tonight?

They have two overs to bat after this one to avoid that unwholesome prospect.

  7. wicket

    WICKET - Zafar c Carter b McAndrew 1published at 18:30 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 183-8 (70.5 overs)

Zafar Gohar does not last long, perishing to his ninth ball from former Warwickshire paceman Nathan McAndrew.

Instead, the job of accompaying Miles Hammond to the close is taken on by Marchant de Lange.

  8. Stumps at Leicesterpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 446-8 (Glamorgan lead by 39 runs)

Bad light brings a premature end to proceedings at Leicester.

It's been Glamorgan's day as they fought back from what was a tricky-looking situation, starting the day on 164-5, to only lose three wickets and pile on enough runs to take the lead.

The reason they do have their noses in front is largely down to the partnership between Chris Cooke and Michael Neser, which was worth over 200. Cooke will still be out there tomorrow morning, continuing on 121.

Not much for the home bowlers to enjoy out there today, but Chris Wright was rewarded for his perseverance with a couple of wickets, to finish on 3-82.

  9. wicket

    WICKET - T Price c Crocombe b Hudson-Prentice 18published at 18:13 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 179-7

Tom Price is out. For only the second time this season.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice, in his 10th over, finds an edge and he is well taken at second slip by Henry Crocombe.

Gloucestershire still trail Sussex by 276 runs with only three wickets left - and are very much stiill in danger of being asked to follow on.

Price's three previous innings this season had been 27*, 55* and that luckless run-out backing up for 109 in that amazing innings at New Road, so this is the first time he has been got out by a bowler this summer.

New man in is Zafar Gohar.

  10. Only one game going then . . .published at 18:10 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Gloucestershire 179-6

10 overs left in the day at Bristol.

After the three earlier results, and the bad light at Leicester, this is the only game still going - and Gloucestershire appear to be rallying well.

Tom Price, the Gloucestershire hero at Worcester a fortnight ago, has so far put ion 34 with Miles Hammond.

  11. Bad light stops play at Leicesterpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 446-8

The players are heading off for what will hopefully be a short break for bad light.

We have a minimum 13 scheduled overs remaining, with Glamorgan leading by 39 runs.

  12. Cooke-ing up another record standpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 446-8

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

For the second year running, Chris Cooke has been part of an all-time county record stand at Leicester.

After hitting 191 not out last year in a sixth-wicket best with Sam Northeast, Cooke put on 211 in a patient partnership with Michael Neser.

The Australian’s 90 was his best county score before he was bowled by the persevering Chris Wright, who had almost forced both men to play on during the afternoon.

The Cooke-Neser stand, at a steady three runs an over, beat a record dating back to 1929, when Dai Davies and Joe Hills put on 202 against Sussex at Eastbourne.

Whether Glamorgan can exert any sort of pressure in turn on the final day remains to be seen.

  13. wicket

WICKET Neser b Wright 90published at 17:41 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 438-8

Agony for Michael Neser as he's out ten runs shy of a century!

But what a great knock it has been and his partnership with Chris Cooke, still unbeaten on 118, has been huge for Glamorgan in this game.

Chris Wright picks up his third of the innings with a ball that stays low and beats Neser all ends up and smashes into the stumps.

  14. wicket

    WICKET - J Taylor c Alsop b Crocombe 3published at 17:31 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Glos 145-6

And another one goes at Bristol!

They hosts still trail Sussex by 310 runs with only four wickets remaining.

    A follow-on looks likely.

Then again, Tom Price knows what to do in these situations!

  15. wicket

    WICKET - O Price c Carter b McAndrew 6published at 17:10 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 dec, Glos 125-5

Gloucestershire lose a fifth wicket at Bristol. Ooh err!

  16. London’s six-minute doublepublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Surrey and Middlesex both win

Was that London’s best ever six minutes in County Championship history?

16:39 Surrey win by nine wickets

16:45 Middlesex win by nine wickets

The south side of the river just edges it!

  17. MIDDLESEX WIN BY NINE WICKETSpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229 & 86-1 v Kent 186 & 128

Pieter Malan's single off Michael Hogan sees Middlesex over the line with plenty of room to spare.

He scored 24 and Sam Robson struck 41 as Middlesex knocked off the runs with ease, only losing the wicket of Mark Stoneman.

Tim Murtagh was the star with the ball earlier, taking 6-42 to add to the four wickets he grabbed in the first innings.

  18. SURREY WIN BY NINE WICKETSpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Surrey (281 & 16-1, 20 pts) beat Warwickshire (150 & 141, 3 pts) by nine wickets

    . . . so that is it!

    A three-day nine-wicket win for Surrey.

The 2022 county champions have outplayed the 2021 winners.

A second straight win, inspired by their all-overseas pace attack of West Indies speahead Kemar Roach and Australian (on a British passport) Dan Worrall.

  19. 6 runs

Six for Tom Lawespublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150 & 141, Surrey 281 & 10-1

    One more run needed.

Then a dot. And then another four for Lawes . . .

  20. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229 & 78-1 v Kent 186 & 128 (Middlesex require 8 runs)

A couple of Pieter Malan boundaries bring the total needed down to single figures.

Not long now and until Middlesex can celebrate.
