  1. 6 runs

Six for Dan Worrallpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150, Surrey 258-8 (87.2 overs)

First six of the Surrey innings as Dan Worrall continues to go for his shots.

The Aussie has moved on to 35 in no time.

But then he goes for one shot too many . . .

  2. 200 runs

up for Glamorganpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 208-6

Glamorgan are up and over 200 in Leicester, passing the milestone with a stylish boundary from Chris Cooke.

That also means they are trailing by fewer than 200 now too - just - they're 199 behind.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Matt Lambpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Durham 452-9 dec, Derbyshire 165 & 156-5

A lovely way to bring up your ninth first-class 50.

Matt Lamb gets down on one knee and hammers Matty Potts to the boundary to complete a super 76-ball half-century.

It's his fourth four of an innings to add to his brace of sixes as Derbyshire continue to frustrate Durham.

He and Luis Reece have put on 66 this morning and they've cut the deficit to 131 runs.

  4. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 71-2

    How's your luck?

Tom Helm again goes agonisingly close to the first wicket of the morning at Lord's.

This time Ben Compton's outside edge just evades a flying Sam Robson attempt at second slip.

The runs have dried up for Kent, though, and the pressure is building a tad.

  5. Northeast and Cooke together again at Leicesterpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407, Glamorgan 201-6 (74 overs)

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

A quiet start to the day at Leicester, where home wicket-keeper Peter Handscomb had a stressful time dealing with some prodigious early swing from left-arm seamer Mike Finan.

Three deliveries bent like a banana and shot to the boundary to the gratitude of Glamorgan, as they struggled towards the follow-on figure of 258.

Nightwatchman Timm van der Gugten hooked Chris Wright to mid-wicket for 11, to bring together Sam Northeast and Chris Cooke, who added 461 together here on this ground last year, external.

But they have largely been on the defensive early on.

Leicestershire are without all-rounder Ed Barnes because of an ankle injury suffered while bowling last night.

  6. Postpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Durham 452-9 dec, Derbyshire 165 & 147-5

Durham's attack continues to underwhelm as Matt Lamb and Luis Reece bring up the 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Typically it comes off a Matt Potts' no-ball which was lucky not to be called a wide.

Lamb is very much the senior partner, moving on to his highest score for Derbyshire with 44, while Reece has a more stately 11 off 41 balls

  7. Postpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 69-2

    So close to the breakthrough!

Tom Helm's swing is causing plenty of problems under splendid blue skies at Lord's.

He almost crowns another pinpoint over by finding Jack Leaning's outside edge. But the Kent man survives and the lead is still just 24.

  8. Purring Pujarapublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 341-4 v Gloucestershire

Check this out for a stat.

Every time Cheteshwar Pujara has passed 50 for Sussex he has gone on to make a century - a perfect conversion rate.

He has seven centuries and no fifties.

That is some record and testament to his patience, concentration and overall skill.

The main man is now on 117 not out and his side have added almost 40 runs this morning without loss.

  9. Postpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Durham 452-9 dec, Derbyshire 165 & 134-5

England man Matt Potts has come on for Ben Raine as Durham try to make the breakthrough. And it almost comes in his second over.

Matt Lamb hooks him to the deep midwicket boundary and is almost caught by Graham Clark, but the fielder's momentum carries him over the rope.

That's a second six of the morning for Lamb who progresses swiftly on to 35 as his stand with Luis Reece reaches 42.

It's been surprisingly comfortable for the Derbyshire men so far in the gloom of Chester-le-Street.

  10. No way to treat a new ball!published at 11:47 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150, Surrey 215-8 (81 overs)

We‘re off and running with a bit of a bang at Edgbaston as Oliver Hannon-Dalby finishes off his over from the night before, play having closed for the day with the loss of Tom Lawes - to the third ball of the over.

The hard-hitting Dan Worrall is the new man in, promoted up the order in placed of Kemar Roach, and he slaps the first ball he receives from OHD back over his head for four.

Bearing in mind the Bears took the new ball last night, that is not showing it much respect.

Radio London‘s Mark Church says Worrall has been sent in with ‘Licence To Thrill‘.

Usually the sort of remark that launches a ‘Who was your favourite Bond?‘ debate.

For any Lancashire fan of a certain vintage, it would have to be Jackie, surely?

  11. 11:40 start in Birminghampublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150, Surrey 211-8 (80.3 overs)

Still waiting to get started - but then it carried on drizzling, that's why.

Frustrating for the home bowling attack who were keen to try and finish off Surrey. But we are now about to get underway at 11:40.

All the Bears attack except the luckless Chris Woakes took wickets yesterday - and that is a relief for last season's top Bears wicker-taker Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

"We are sharing the wickets around this season and that's great," said OHD. "t's really cool that we have got all these guys.

"We change the bowling and Hasan Ali comes on, then Ed Barnard comes on, then Chris Rushworth and Chris Woakes come back and that's a pretty good attack.

"And we have some good bowlers that aren't playing here - Liam Norwell, Craig Miles, Henry Brookes, George Garrett, Manraj Johal, seriously good bowlers who aren't even playing. It's really pleasing to have that depth."

  12. Postpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 64-2

Tom Helm replaces the evergreen Tim Murtagh as Middlesex look to break this partnership.

His first over's a good one, but his final ball goes to the third man boundary as Ben Compton's edge gets lucky.

Compton moves on to 29 as he chases a second half-century of the match, and Jack Leaning is matching him with a 72-ball 29.

The third-wicket stand is up to 64 and Kent lead by 21.

  13. Postpublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Durham 452-9 dec, Derbyshire 165 & 120-5

Ben Raine has five wickets in the match so far but hasn't quite hit his straps this morning. Yet.

Matt Lamb is the beneficiary, leaning into a delivery and clipping to the point boundary for four.

Two balls later he's not quite so in control of the shot, but swipes Raine for six to move on to 26.

That over went for 12 and Derbyshire are still a whopping 167 behind.

  14. wicket

WICKET van der Gugten c Patel b Wright 11published at 11:29 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 186-6

An early blow for Glamorgan as Leicestershire make the breakthrough within the opening half-hour.

Chris Wright bangs one in short and nightwatchman Timm van der Gugten tries a pull shot but doesn't get all of it and sends the ball straight into the hands of Rishi Patel at mid-wicket.

That brings Chris Cooke into the action.

  15. Postpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 56-2

Lovely punch off the back foot to the boundary for Jack Leaning as Kent continue to make a solid start at Lord's.

Tim Murtagh and Ethan Bamber have kept things tight in their opening spell, but a bit of width from the former allows Leaning room to throw his hands at the ball.

Leaning then rocks back and clips the ball to the boundary as Murtagh strays down the leg side to move on to 28.

The lead's up to 13. So far so good for the visitors

  16. Postpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 173-5

Glamorgan's Eddie Byrom spoke of today being a fighting day for his side as they seek to chip into Leicestershire's lead.

Byrom scored a half-century himself and Marnus Labuschagne hit 64 yesterday and they're starting off the morning with Sam Northeast and Timm van der Gugten, who came in late yesterday as a nightwatchman.

Van der Gugten was excellent with the ball yesterday, taking 6-88, can he perform similarly well with the bat?

  17. 100 runs

100 up for Derbyshirepublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Durham 452-9 dec, Derbyshire 165 & 100-5

We're under way at Chester-le-Street as Durham hunt down an innings win, but bad light could yet disturb their momentum.

The overhead skies are slate grey and the floodlights are on as Matt Lamb brings up three figures for Derbyshire.

It's lovely conditions for a bowl, and no doubt Derbyshire batters Lamb and Luis Reece would fancy a quick return to the pavilion.

    They remain 187 behind.

  18. 100 runs

for Cheteshwar Pujarapublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Glos v Sussex 308-4

A second century of the season for India's Cheteshwar Pujara.

His usual calm, measured batting. Three figures here in 191 balls with 13 fours and a six.

The India Test star follows up a hundred in the first game of the season against Durham at Hove.

His seventh hundred for Sussex in only his 12th match! What a signing he's been.

And overall his 58th first-class ton.

    Class.

  19. Kent in frontpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 46-2

An early boost for Kent as they move ahead of Middlesex's first innings total with eight second-innings wickets in the tank.

It didn't take long - six balls in fact - as Ben Compton advances down the pitch to Ethan Bamber and works it to the boundary for the day's first four.

Now it's a question of how long the Kent batsmen can stick around and what kind of target they can leave the hosts to chase.

    Nicely poised.

  20. rain stops play

Delayed start at Edgbastonpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150, Surrey 211-8 (80.3 overs)

Light drizzle just before the start of play has caused a surprise delay in Birmingham.

We‘re hoping it‘s just a passing ‘drip, drip, drop little April shower and that play will be underway before too long.

We are underway in all the other four games though.
