WICKET - Billings lbw Murtagh 0published at 13:12 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 99-5

    And there's another!

Patience pays off for the Middlesex attack as they take a second wicket in eight balls to bring up lunch at Lord's.

Tim Murtagh's off-cutter pins Sam Billings in front and the umpire raises his finger.

Billings believed the ball was going down leg, but he's gone for a five-ball duck and Middlesex are now in full control.

  2. wicket

WICKET - Rhodes lbw b Roach 5published at 13:11 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150 & 22-4, Surrey 281

The pre-lunch carnage at Edgbaston carries on.

Home skipper Will Rhodes becomes victim number three for Kemar Roach.

Four wickets have gone down inside 38 balls. One for Aussie Dan Worrall, Three for Barbadian Roach.

As pre-prandial snacks go, the West Indies paceman must have been hungry.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - Cox c Eskinazi b Bamber 6published at 13:05 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 98-4

A big wicket just before lunch for Middlesex.

Ethan Bamber is moved to the Nursery End and it quickly pays off. He sends down an absolute beauty which angles in on off-stump which forces Jordan Cox to play.

It takes the outside edge and Steve Eskinazi does the rest at first slip.

Kent had done well under almost constant pressure, but they're now four down and lead by 55.

  4. 'All is calm... for now'published at 13:02 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229 v Kent 186 & 98-3

    Alex Hoad
    BBC Radio Kent at Lord's

With Jack Leaning gone, Kent's hopes of batting long into, or even through the day would seem to rely ever more on the shoulders of opener Ben Compton.

Middlesex have beaten his edge a couple of times but he remains there on 35.

Jordan Cox has yet to reach 30 this season, what a time this would be for him to change that, from a Kent perspective.

Middlesex are shifting their attack around and trying to tempt one of the Kent batters into something rash. The lead remains a slender 55. Can they keep their nerve.

This is the calm, will there be a storm to follow?

  5. wicket

    WICKET - Hain c Sibley b Roach 3published at 13:00 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150 & 21-3, Surrey 281

    And another!!!

This time it‘s the big one. Sam Hain is gone cheaply for the second time in the match.

Dan Mousley came to the middle at 23-3 in the first innings. This time the Bears are in an even bigger mess as he comes out to bat at 21-3.

It will need more than a repeat of his first-innings half-century to save this game now.

  6. wicket

    WICKET - Davies c Steel b Worrall 0published at 12:56 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150 & 18-2, Surrey 281

    Another one gone at Edgbaston.

Alex Davies this time as Aussie Dan Worrall gets in on the act again.Sam Hain comes to the crease with the Bears in trouble.

  7. Beautifully timed run chase earns maximum batting pointspublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5d v Gloucestershire 4-0

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A beautifully timed run chase by Sussex this morning secured a fifth batting bonus point in the 110th over.

Cheteshwar Pujara led the charge, with his 151 ended only by a brilliant diving catch by Graeme van Buuren at mid-off.

For Pujara, it was his 58th first-class century, and the partnership will Oli Carter, who was undefeated on 59, added 106 for the fifth wicket ensuring Sussex were always in the hunt for full bonus batting points.

  8. wicket

    WICKET - Yates c Sibley b Roach 14published at 12:51 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150 & 14-1, Surrey 281

Surrey‘s West Indian paceman Kemar Roach strikes quickly before lunch.

Rob Yates is caught at first slip - a neat pouch for former Warwickshire opener Dom Sibley.

Will Rhodes comes in to join Al Davies.

  9. 200 runs

200 for Derbyshirepublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Durham 452-9 dec, Derbyshire 165 & 202-5

Matt Lamb clubs his third six of the morning to bring up the Derbyshire 200.

Spinner Matt Parkinson is the unfortunate recipient as Lamb moves on to 77. The deficit is quickly down to 85.

Still plenty to do just to make them bat again, but it may have set a few unlikely doubts in the minds of Durham fans.

  10. 100 runs

100 partnershippublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Durham 452-9 dec, Derbyshire 165 & 191-5

It's been overwhelmingly Derbyshire's morning as Matt Lamb and Luis Reece have progressed untroubled despite overcast conditions.

They started the day staring down the barrel at 92-5, but this pair bring up a 100-run sixth-wicket stand off 150 balls, 99 of which have come this morning.

Lamb has 68 from 102 balls and Reece has picked up the pace a touch with a 71-ball 30.

The deficit - 195 at 11am - is now down into double figures (96).

  11. SUSSEX DECLARE ON 455-5published at 12:41 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 455-5 v Gloucestershire

Fynn Hudson-Prentice smashes a six and Sussex decide that's enough for their first innings!

They've added more than 150 to the total this morning with Cheteshwar Pujara hitting 151 and Oli Carter finishing 59 not out.

A pretty chastening session for the Gloucestershire bowlers whose figures have taken a bit of a battering.

What have the hosts got in response at Bristol?

  12. wicket

WICKET Northeast c Handscomb b Finan 40published at 12:36 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 225-7

The new ball pays immediate dividends!

Leicestershire have made the breakthrough they had been chasing, dismissing Sam Northeast just ten runs short of a half-century.

Northeast's partnership with Chris Cooke had been looking good so that's a big wicket for the hosts.

Glamorgan are still a sizeable 182 runs behind and now only have three wickets in hand.

  13. wicket

SURREY BOWLED OUT FOR 281 BY BEARSpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Smith c Davies b Hasan Ali 88

Jamie Smith, sensing that time might be running out in a bid to reach his century, began to play some serious shots himself, including successive sixes. But he perishes just 12 short of a ton - to give Hasan Ali a third wicket.

Hasan follows OHD and Chris Rushworth as the third Warwickshire bowler in the innings to take three wickets. But no reward for luckless England all-rounder Chris Woakes.

Surrey now lead by 131 runs - that could prove a matchwinning lead, if the Bears do not bat well this afternoon.

  14. 50 runs

for Oli Carterpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 431-5 v Gloucestershire

Sussex are racking up the runs and Oli Carter has helped himself to a half-century.

At the other end Fynn Hudson-Prentice is on 16 from 12 balls.

There's not been a lot of joy for the Gloucestershire bowlers so far today - the dismissal of the impressive Cheteshwar Pujara being the only bright spot.

  15. new ball

Leicestershire take new ballpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Leicestershire 407 v Glamorgan 224-6

Since the hosts dismissed Timm van der Gugten about an hour ago, the Glamorgan batters have been enjoying themselves.

So the Foxes decide it's time for a new ball to break up the Sam Northeast/Chris Cooke combo.

    Will it make the difference?

  16. wicket

WICKET Jack Leaning c Robson b Higgins 48published at 12:25 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 87-3

Finally the breakthrough comes at Lord's!

Jack Leaning looked set for his 28th first-class half-century, but is undone by Ryan Higgins.

The ball holds its line and takes Leaning's outside edge to Sam Robson who takes a decent low catch.

The Middlesex attack has probed away and deserved this. Jordan Cox is next man in and Kent's lead is 44.

  17. Derbyshire resist in murky Chester-le-Streetpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Durham 452-9 dec, Derbyshire 165 & 178-5 (trailing by 109)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham were looking for five quick wickets this morning to see this one off, but the Derbyshire sixth-wicket pair of Luis Reece and Matt Lamb have looked in little trouble so far.

Lamb has reached his first half century for his new club. He did make three hundreds for Warwickshire so he is certainly no mug.

Their partnership is now worth 87 - and under grey skies, in the Chester-le-Street murk, batting looks rather easy.

  18. Postpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Middlesex 229, Kent 186 & 86-2

The Middlesex bowlers continue to keep the pressure on, but the Kent batsmen are doing their jobs.

Jack Leaning, ahem, leans on an over-pitched Tom Helm delivery and sends it to the boundary to move within three of his half-century.

Helm then responds with pace and bounce which is too much for Leaning and almost glances off his bat to a fielder.

A good contest between bat and ball here. Kent are so far unscathed today and lead by 44.

  19. wicket

WICKET Pujara c van Buuren b de Lange 151published at 12:20 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Sussex 408-5 v Gloucestershire

A class innings comes to an end moments after Cheteshwar Pujara passes 150.

His 151 came from 237 balls, with 20 fours and two sixes.

Marchant de Lange is the man who takes the scalp, with Graeme van Buuren catching the India star.

Pujara had hit van Buuren for three consecutive fours in the previous over so some form of revenge for him there!

  20. wicket

    WICKET - Worrall c Rhodes b Rushworth 35published at 12:14 British Summer Time 29 April 2023

    Warwickshire 150, Surrey 258-9 (87.4 overs)

Two balls later - and Chris Rushworth gets his revenge for that six.

Dan Worrall goes for another big, wild yahoo, skies it and Bears skipper Will Rhodes takes the catch.

Jamie Smith, who is on 69, having added just 12 to his overnight 57, will now take on the role of senior partner again as last man Kemar Roach comes out to bat.

That 47-run stand has taken the Surrey lead past 100 though - a potentially huge psychological blow in this game.
