Michael Neser took a hat-trick for Glamorgan but he will share tonight's headlines with Sussex captain Cheteshwar Pujara, who struck a superb century at New Road.

Ten past seven - and that is it at New Road.

Worcestershire trail Sussex by 75 runs going into day three.

It is not a nice weather forecast for tomorrow.

Then again, neither was it today. And we got to see almost a full day, an imperious Pujara ton, Steve Smith and his two helmets, and a solid Sussex rearguard action. Good day's cricket that.

An unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 85 between Tom Kohler-Cadmore and James Rew has given Somerset some positive momentum at the end of day two at Taunton, despite them still trailing Northamptonshire by 56 runs.

Kohler-Cadmore will resume tomorrow morning on 95 not out, just five runs away from a first century for Somerset.

A day of toil for Hampshire, bar that glorious 35 minute mini-session before lunch when they claimed three wickets for the addition of just 12 runs.

Since lunch it has been pretty much all Warwickshire, Alex Davies rattled 51 and Sam Hain fell 15 short of a third century in four games, while Ed Barnard is unbeaten on 91 overnight with Michael Burgess at the other end on 60 not out.

The weather looks like it might be the visitors' biggest obstacle when it comes to claiming victory at the Ageas.

If they can build on their advantage in whatever play is possible on Saturday then they might just get a full day on Sunday to try and press it home.

Sean Hunt overpitches and Ed Pollock stylishly drives it away for four. Late in the day it may be, but he is too attack-minded a player to let that one go.

Somerset 187-4 v Northamptonshire 255

Northamptonshire might live to regret this.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore skies one high into the Taunton sky and Jack White can't gather it at a deepish mid-off.

Never the easiest of catches when it goes so high and at the end of a long day, but White never looked comfortable as he raced to get underneath it.

Alastair Cook safely negotiates a maiden from Will Jacks to end a satisfying second day for Essex.

They lead the 2022 champions by 89 with all 10 wickets standing after bowling them out in 76.5 overs.

It wasn't a complete day - there were a couple of interruptions for rain - but Essex are now in prime position to push on in search of victory if the weather remains reasonably kind.

Jamie Porter took 4-51 in Surrey's first innings in which 48 by Dom Sibley was the highest score.

Imagine bowling your first over at five to seven on the evening of day two after a day in the dirt... Felix Organ is doing just that. Three singles off the part-time spinner. He'll take that.

Two overs to come tonight. The lead is 129.

You don't want to be facing a fired-up Ollie Robinson in dodgy light but such is the situation for Ed Pollock.

But the left-hander picks up a couple of runs to move into double figures.

Essex's experienced opening pair are happy just to nudge and nurdle it about for singles.

Alastair Cook will be on strike at the start of the next - and it will be Will Jacks to bowl it.

Four overs remaining in the day's play at Taunton, you wouldn't put it past Tom Kohler-Cadmore getting to a hundred before the close.

He's on 84 not out.

Although - the umpires are just having a natter about the light, so maybe we won't get those four scheduled overs in.

Ed Barnard only needed one... he pulls the opening ball of the over square on the leg side and finds the rope. He's on 83 and the lead is 121. The visitors have six bonus points from this match which they will be delighted with.

Kemar Roach strays onto Alastair Cook's pads and although we are in the final throes of the day, the England skipper unerringly turns it away for four to square leg.

Mohammad Abbas will bowl the 110th over. One wicket needed for a Hampshire bonus point, four runs needed by Warwickshire. Six balls. Wonderful stuff.

Jordan Clark beats Nick Browne with a good one but the Essex openers pick up three singles from the over. Three more to come.

Derbyshire extended their lead beyond 200 before the close on day two against Leicestershire.

Leus du Plooy top-scored with 94 for the home side, while Wiaan Mulder has taken five wickets for the visitors.
