  1. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 278-5

Nick Gubbins puts down Ed Barnard at deep square off the bowling of James Fuller.. and he's hurt himself too, he's trudging straight off the field. That was coming straight out of the sun towards him and just died on him before it arrived. Painful. James Fuller sinks to his knees in frustration, and then lies on the track for good measure.

  2. Postpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 & 4-0 v Sussex 373

Ed Pollock opens for Worcestershire and his first scoring shot goes for four off Ollie Robinson, driven past mid-on - just it did in the first innings.

Unfortunately, for him, that was his only scoring shot in the first innings.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - Bancroft c Gouldstone b White 39published at 17:57 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset 114-4 v Northamptonshire 255

That "new" ball does do the trick for Northamptonshire, who have removed Cameron Bancroft for 39.

He follows one that's just outside off stump from Jack White and it's a straightforward catch for the keeper.

  4. 6 runs

Postpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 275-5

Ed Barnard wallops Liam Dawson for a premeditated six over mid-on to move to 48 from the first ball of the spinner's over.

A second batting bonus point is 24 runs away.

  6. Postpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset 113-3 v Northamptonshire 255

The ball wasn't doing too much and Somerset's batters were looking fairly comfortable against it, but it's got damp after some time in the covers following a Tom Kohler-Cadmore boundary.

Northamptonshire have a change of ball and, they hope, a change of fortune with the fresh cherry.

  7. Postpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 268-5

Warwickshire are steadying the ship after the loss of the Hain train, or maybe it's Hampshire's bowlers who are doing the steadying.

Ed Barnard has moved onto 41 while Michael Burgess has slapped his way to 15 with a couple of unorthodox strokes.

The lead is 39, there are five wickets in hand, and 19 overs left on a sunny evening on the south coast.

  8. wicket

WICKET - Crocombe lbw Leach 1published at 17:46 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 373

Sussex lead by 109 on first innings.

Joe Leach wraps things up as Henry Crocombe plays across the line and has final figures of 3-83.

Most of the attention was on Steve Smith at the start of play, but it was Cheteshwar Pujara who enabled Sussex to add 310 to their overnight 63-1 with a superb century.

An awkward spell for Worcestershire's top order coming up.

  9. wicket

WICKET - Clark lbw Porter 25published at 17:46 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 312-8

Bad ball from Jamie Porter and Jordan Clark cuts - he likes that shot - for four.

It's his last, though, as the Essex seamer has him leg before.

The deficit is....you can work it out yourself.

  10. wicket

    WICKET - Pujara c Roderick b Tongue 136published at 17:41 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 370-9

    The Sussex captain is gone.

He fishes outside off stump at the start of a new Josh Tongue over and feathers it through to the keeper.

Pujara batted for 290 minutes, faced 189 balls and hit one six and 19 fours. High-class stuff.

  11. Postpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

He may have only scored 30 in his first Sussex innings but Steve Smith was out on the balcony when Cheteshwar Pujara reached his century.

  12. Play to resume at Derby at 18:00 BSTpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Derbyshire 299-4 v Leics 122

Surprisingly we may be about to get some more cricket at Derby, where the heavens opened about 90 minutes ago.

But the weather is much improved and the covers are almost off.

A scheduled 17 overs still possible.

  13. Postpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 208-7

Surrey reach 200 with a single off Doug Bracewell for Sean Abbott.

Bracewell then gives Jordan Clark too much room and is cut away for four, before the Surrey batter punches through the covers off the back foot for a second successive four.

  14. Postpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset 92-3 v Northamptonshire 255

One thing that Tom Kohler-Cadmore's arrival has done is accelerated Somerset's scoring rate at Taunton.

TKC has 20 off 15 balls, while Cameron Bancroft is looking very solid on 33.

Still a possible 20 overs to be bowled if the weather holds.

  15. wicket

    WICKET - Robinson c Haynes b Leach 33published at 17:29 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 368-8

Ollie Robinson greets Joe Leach at the start of a new over with a lofted drive over mid-off for six.

An audacious ramp shot follows, bringing him four to third man, and he then whips Leach over square leg for his second maximum of the over.

Why stop there? Unfortunately for Robinson, he doesn't get clean enough contact on the next one and Jack Haynes takes a good boundary catch.

    Fun while it lasted.

  16. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 249 v Lancashire 214 & 98-1

No surprise that it's stumps at Trent Bridge - there were pools of water forming on the covers because of that prolonged rain after tea.

  17. Postpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 193-7

Sean Abbott has a first-class century to his credit and that is a comforting thought for Surrey with 23 overs remaining on day two.

Just one run - to Jordan Clark - from the latest over, bowled by Doug Bracewell, but the radio commentators are a bit concerned about the light.

  18. wicket

    WICKET - Hain c Brown b Holland 85published at 17:23 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 250-5

Sam Hain doesn't think he nicked this, but he has to go. Adjudged to have feathered one through to Ben Brown behind the stumps. After a long wait the finger goes up.

An 86-run stand for the fifth wicket but Hain falls narrowly short of a third century in four matches, the very next ball after bringing up the first Warwickshire batting point.

  19. Postpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset 69-3 v Northamptonshire 255

A rather sedate period of play at Taunton, where it's finely balanced after that Tom Abell dismissal.

Northants will fancy their chance of a decent lead if they can break this partnership between Cameron Bancroft and Tom Kohler-Cadmore quickly.

  20. Third batting point for Sussexpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 350-7

Ollie Robinson nudges Matthew Waite through square leg for four and Sussex collect batting point number three.

The England paceman is clearly intent on enjoying himself with the bat and is 16 not out, with partner Cheteshwar Pujara on 134.
