Balderson dropped on 4published at 14:57 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 249 v Lancashire 214 & 15-1

One almost brings two as George Balderson edges to slip, but down it goes.

Ben Duckett was diving to his right, but got there in good time and it's one he'll feel he should have taken.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - Wells c Clarke b Fletcher 11published at 14:51 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

  4. wicket

    WICKET - Sales b Siddle 57published at 14:50 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 255 all-out

Peter Siddle picks up his second wicket as James Sales wanders across the track and tries to glance the ball back into the leg side, only succeeding in playing onto his stumps.

The end of a promising knock and a bit of a result for Somerset who were staring down the barrel at 116-1 and even 227-6.

    Very much game on.

  5. wicket

    WICKET - Sibley c Pepper b Bracewell 48published at 14:50 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 105-2

    Doug BracewellImage source, Rex Features

Dom Sibley pushes hard at a Doug Bracewell delivery but the bat is well away from his front pad and an inside edge is caught low by Essex keeper Michael Pepper.

The Surrey opener batted well, hitting three sixes and three fours, and is frustrated to miss out on a half-century.

He put on 49 with Ollie Pope, who has 25 and has been joined by Jamie Smith.

It's his second half-ton of the season and has taken him 74 balls and he follows it with a sweep for four.

The 100 partnership comes up as a thick edge by Madsen runs away to the third man boundary.

  7. 'Hampshire euphoria dampened'published at 14:46 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 142-3

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

In yesterday's afternoon session Hampshire lost eight wickets, so far Warwickshire have lost none.

In the 35 minutes of play before lunch the visitors lost three wickets with the promise of more to follow.

But it’s not been the case. Sam Hain, who already has two centuries under his belt this campaign, has looked calm and assured and he’s getting good solid support from Dan Mousley.

The pre-lunch euphoria from the Hampshire bowlers has been somewhat dampened.

  8. Postpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 249 v Lancashire 214 & 14-0

Brett Hutton and Luke Fletcher have taken the new ball for Notts but Lancashire's openers Luke Wells and George Balderson have made a solid start.

Lancashire were bowled out in the 45th over of their first innings, and will need to bat better today if they're going to have a chance of victory.

The rain seems to be dodging Trent Bridge for the moment as well - one of the few places not to have any interruptions for bad weather today.

  9. wicket

    WICKET - Sanderson b Leach 6published at 14:44 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 255-9

Bowled him. Vintage Jack Leach, an arm-ball carries on past Ben Sanderson's timid push and clatters middle and off.

Jack White is the new man.

A full-length delivery from Josh Hull and the dependable Wayne Madsen chops it away square for two runs to bring up a 96-ball half-century.

He now has 79 in first-class cricket to go with 35 hundreds and he and Leus du Plooy look like they are intent on batting Leicestershire out of this game.

  11. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 98-1

Ollie Pope uses his feet well before lofting the ball effortlessly over mid-on.

Dom Sibley clearly watched that very closely because two balls later he does the same to end an expensive Simon Harmer over.

He is 47 not out and Pope has 19.

  12. Postpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 250-8

James Sales hits a single and brings up Northants' first batting bonus point... of the season.

Every Division One side now has at least one. Can they eke out another before the end of this innings?

  13. Postpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 135-3

Sam Hain and Dan Mousley have quietly seen off the threat of Kyle Abbott and Mohammad Abbas who have gone to lick their wounds in the deep.

James Fuller has taken one end and Liam Dawson's left-arm spin is operating at the other. Hain is on 31 and the deficit is down to double figures.

    Worcestershire 264 v Sussex 212-5

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at New Road

The clouds are looking a little full and grey away over to the south-west, towards the Malverns, where the weather here comes from.

The ominous signs are that there might be some rain on the way.

An even bigger clue is that one of the photographers has just appeared back up in the press box.

"Getting cold out there, and it‘s spitting," he said.

    In fact...

  16. Resumption at Chelmsfordpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 80-1

We are going to have some more play at the Cloud County Ground.

Doug Bracewell has two deliveries left to complete his pre-rain over.

Ollie Pope is on strike on nine and Dom Sibley has 39, having passed 7,000 first-class runs in this innings.

Tea will be taken at 4.25pm.

  17. wicket

WICKET - Buckingham st Rew b Leach 9published at 14:28 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 243-8

    Now then.

Jack Leach is not reading, he's quite rightly continuing his over. Jordan Buckingham, on debut, quicksteps his way down the track but fails to connect with a flighted delivery allowing James Rew to gather and whip the bails off, quick as a flash.

Top notch stuff. Buckingham slinks off slightly sheepishly.

Ben Sanderson joins James Sales with seven still needed for a batting point.

  18. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 243-7

If you're reading, Jack Leach, I'm sorry. Calling it a drop is harsh.

Jordan Buckingham cares not for your international pedigree, he tries to slap the spinner back past him, Leach gets a meaty palm to the ball to deflect it into the air but cannot quite contort to take the rebound.

  19. Latest from Derbypublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Derbys 198-3 v Leics 122

Leicestershire are keeping things pretty tight at the moment. The latest Wiaan Mulder over costs him three singles - Wayne Madsen is 39 not out, one more than partner Leus du Plooy.

Seekers of small pleasures as we are, wouldn't it be great if Leicestershire also had a player called Scully?

  20. Postpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 249 v Lancashire 214 & 4-0

Fresh from his 5-66 in the first innings, Brett Hutton is opening the bowling for Notts and Luke Wells greets him with a glorious cover drive to get off the mark with a boundary from his second ball.
