  1. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 354-7 v Northamptonshire 255

Craig Overton produces a tasty back-foot drive through the covers to bring up the third batting bonus point in the over before tea.

They have lost Tom Kohler-Cadmore (130) and James Rew (89) in this session but Somerset have opened up a lead of 99.

They will feel it perhaps should have been more and their hopes of building a total big enough to compete for victory on a benign track on the final day would appear to rest of their tail scoing quickly in the 30 overs remaining today.

Northants do have the new ball at their disposal when play resumes, of course.

This was another session that went the way of Glamorgan, in emphatic fashion.

Dominated by Marnus Labuschagne, who ground the beleaguered Yorkshire attack into the Headingley dirt, switching from the orthodox to the inventive in a magnificent knock.

A four through third man off Dom Bess took Labuschagne to a first-class score of 150 or more for the ninth time in his career, as he seemed to hit gaps at will and never looked like getting out.

Sam Northeast gave him excellent support in a third-wicket stand of 148 before the former Kent, Hampshire, Yorkshire and Notts loan man slashed a Jordan Thompson delivery to gully, before Kiran Carlson was caught behind by Jonny Bairstow off Matthew Fisher, without scoring.

With rain forecast in the final session, Glamorgan declared five minutes before the scheduled tea break and have set Yorkshire – who made only 110 first time around – an improbable-looking 492 to win.

    WICKET - Rew b Zaib 89published at 16:03 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 346-7 v Northamptonshire 255

Another player falls agonisingly short of three figures in this round of the Championship.

James Rew has not been great with the reverse sweeping of Rob Keogh or indeed Saif Zaib and it's the latter who manages to beat the bat and clip what began as his off-stump.

A fine knock from the teenage left-hander but one he will desperately wish he had converted once again.

  5. Tea in Nottingham - and a pitch inspectionpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Lancashire 214 & 195-1, Nottinghamshire 249

They are now officially taking tea at Trent Bridge before unpires Martin Saggers and Rob Bailey contemplate their next move.

They have not played now sinse 12:24.

  6. Postpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 338-6 v Northamptonshire 255

Northants have elected not to take the new ball after 80 overs. Odd. Perhaps they're waiting to start afresh after tea, which is looming in the next few minutes.

Ah perhaps they're trying to improve their over rate so maybe that's why they're sticking with spin for now.

They do not look remotely threatening, it must be said, and the lead is already 83.

  7. Declaration and tea at Headingleypublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 352-4

Billy Root chops Saud Shakeel for a single to reach his half-century - and he and Marnus Labuschagne immediately head off the field!

Glamorgan have finally declared, with a whopping lead of 491. If the weather holds, Yorkshire will have 43 overs to face today.

    WICKET - Gregory b Thomas 23published at 15:44 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 323-6 v Northamptonshire 255

Lewis Gregory charges down the track to try and hit Tom Taylor into Dorset but misses the ball completely and turns round to see the ball clatter middle-and-leg.

Needless dismissal but Kasey Aldridge won't mind striding out in this situation.

The sun is out, the track looks benign and he has a set partner at the other end in James Rew.

  9. Postpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 322-5 v Northamptonshire 255

Spinner Rob Keogh gets some decent turn out of a footmark and makes James Rew look a tad silly with a huge swing and miss.

A couple of balls later and Rew gets his revenge, he picks one perfectly to produce a lovely reverse sweep to the rope to move onto 80.

Just 28 shy of another batting bonus for the hosts, who were 61-3 at one stage remember..

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 323-4

Marnus Labuschagne (Glamorgan)Image source, Rex Features

Marnus Labuschagne just goes on and on...

He cuts Dom Bess for another boundary to bring up his 150 from 186 balls - the ninth time he has passed that landmark in first-class cricket - as Glamorgan continue piling on the runs.

Billy Root is unbeaten on 42 and the pair have now shared a century partnership for the fifth wicket.

  11. Postpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 308-5 v Northamptonshire 255

Back-to-back fours from Lewis Gregory off Tom Taylor bring up a second batting bonus point for the hosts.

Northants skipper Sam Whiteman slams into a hoarding as he slides full-length to prevent a third straight boundary, but he jumps up ok. Tough breed down there.

Weather watchers becalmed, James Rew and Gregory have just removed their jumpers. We are going to be just fine for the rest of the day.

  12. Postpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 291-4

It's all about trying to second guess Glamorgan's intentions at the moment. Maybe they're eyeing a 150 for Marnus Labuschagne before they send Yorkshire in again?

If that's the case, it shouldn't be too long as Labuschagne is currently 137 not out, having inflicted further suffering on Dom Bess by slamming the off-spinner over his head for six.

  13. Pitch inspection at Derbypublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Leicestershire 122 & 0-0, Derbyshire 350-7 dec

    Pitch inspection, at 16:00 BST.

    The weather has improved considerably.

We should feel more positive that this one might lead to some actual cricket.

They are now also officially taking tea.

  14. Postpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 274-4

Poor old Dom Bess might be wishing he'd remained unused as a bowler in this game - his four overs so far have disappeared for 33.

Marnus Labuschagne, who's raced on to 126, and Billy Root (22 not out) have put together a 50 partnership in what seems like no time.

With Glamorgan now 413 ahead, surely a declaration can't be too far away?

  15. Abandoned for day at Southamptonpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Hampshire 229, Warwickshire 364-5

    Another one bites the dust.

It is also off for the day at the Ageas Bowl, following the earlier abandonment at Worcester.

Not a ball bowled for the Bears or the Pears today.

Ed Barnard has another night to contemplate the nine runs needed for his first Warwickshire century.

  16. wicket

    WICKET - Kohler-Cadmore c Vasconcelos b Keogh 130published at 15:05 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 276-5 v Northamptonshire 255

    Oh. Sorry, Tom.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore's first Somerset century but he's a picture of frustration as he trudges off. He tried another aggressive shot off the spinner Rob Keogh but can only send it straight down the throat of Ricardo Vasconcelos at a widish mid-wicket.

The 164-run partnership is over and Lewis Gregory joins James Rew on the hunt for bonus points and a far bigger lead than the 24 they currently enjoy.

  17. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 256-4

Time for Dom Bess to renew hostilities with Marnus Labuschagne, who clobbered him for three boundaries in an over just before lunch.

On this occasion, Labuschagne politely takes a single and leaves it for his partner, Billy Root, to charge down the track and deposit Bess over his head for four. Glamorgan lead by 395.

  18. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 276-4 v Northamptonshire 255

That's not a bad ball, in a tidy enough over from Rob Keogh, but Tom Kohler-Cadmore decided he could pick it up off a length to larrup it straight down the pitch for another mighty six.

130 not out from 101 balls. 18 fours, three sixes. I doubt he's even got his 10,000 steps in these past couple of days.

He's making a very hard game look effortless.

  19. Postpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 265-4 v Northamptonshire 255

Somerset move into the lead just before James Rew launches Rob Keogh for a towering six over mid-on to bring up the 150-run partnership.

He and Tom Kohler-Cadmore seem to have swapped roles in the last 20 minutes. TKC is on 122 from 97 balls while Rew is on 61.

  20. Play abandoned for the day at Worcesterpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Worcestershire 264 & 34-1, Sussex 373

And that is, in fact, it at New Road.

Play is officially abandoned for the day.

The words from the locals is that there would have been no argument if it had been called off as long ago as 12.
