Root batting at Headingley? That usually draws the crowds... anyway, on this occasion it's Joe's brother Billy who's at the crease for Glamorgan and, after a slow start, the left-hander just emerged from his shell by creaming George Hill for successive off-side boundaries.

Marnus Labuschagne is 108 not out and Glamorgan lead by 382 - but, while weighing up the timing of any declaration, they'll be mindful that Leicestershire chased down the best part of 400 to win here in the first game of the season.

  2. rain stops play

Still raining at New Roadpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Worcestershire 264 & 34-1, Sussex 373

It is raining again in Worcester. It surely cannot be long before umpires Peter Hartley and Chris Watts call it off for the day.

    In fact . . .

  3. 50 runs

for James Rewpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 252-4 v Northamptonshire 255

The 19-year-old has ridden his luck but he has a second first-class half-century to show for it. He gets down low to pull Rob Keogh away through the leg side for his seventh four, reaching the milestone in 94 balls.

There have been more fine strokes than streaky ones and he might have his eye on converting this into a third career century.

Making this professional cricket malarkey look pretty easy, is the young keeper-batter.

He's also given his side a batting bonus point.

Well, Marnus Labuschagne is back on his feet and dabs Jordan Thompson to the third man boundary to bring up his hundred from 142 balls.

It's the Australian's first hundred of the season and his seventh in all for Glamorgan, who now hold a lead of 367 over Yorkshire.

  5. ouch!

Postpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 224-4

Yorkshire are suddenly making Marnus Labuschagne work to get his century.

The Glamorgan player has been stuck in the 90s for a while and was just "struck in the lower abdomen", as BBC Wales' Nick Webb tactfully puts it, by a fizzing delivery from Matt Fisher.

Those two wickets have certainly slowed the scoring rate and delayed Glamorgan's thoughts of pushing for a declaration.

  6. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 233-4 v Northamptonshire 255

James Rew has been living on the edge, quite literally, and he nicks the first delivery with the replacement ball from Jack White straight to the breadbasket of Hassan Azad at second slip.

Somehow Azad can only fumble it down and to his right but first slip is not quite able to snag the rebound. Azad himself was dropped in the slips in the first over of the match on Thursday.

A huge let-off for Somerset and Rew.

It's Azad sad situation for the visitors.

  7. Postpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 233-4 v Northamptonshire 255

James Rew has bustled along to 43 from 77 balls courtesy of three thick edges to the boundary in the past three overs.

The deficit is down to 22 and Northants hope a change of ball will help their fortunes. Too much damage from Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Rew and the fence, has led to the ball losing its shape.

  8. wicket

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 222-4

Yorkshire have another wicket - although it's not that of Marnus Labuschagne.

Kiran Carlson is the man to go, having faced only five balls as he gets a thin edge behind off Matt Fisher.

Billy Root strides to the middle to join Labuschagne, who is four short of his hundred.

    Derbyshire 350-7 dec v Leicestershire 122 & 0-0

... at 15:00 BST. Derbyshire will be desperate to get on and start attacking their visitors with such a healthy lead under their belts.

  10. wicket

    Northeast c Shakeel b Thompson 66published at 14:12 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 205-3

Finally, our first wicket of the day!

Jordan Thompson is the man who takes it for Yorkshire, persuading Sam Northeast to slam one hard to the point fielder on 66 and end his third-wicket partnership of 148 with Marnus Labuschagne (79).

Kiran Carlson comes to the wicket with Glamorgan leading by 344.

Up against one of his former counties, Northeast is clearly on the way back to his best form. His last three scores over the past eight days have been 40, 49 and now 66.

  11. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 215-4 v Northamptonshire 255

That's a century partnership for the fifth wicket, Tom Kohler-Cadmore has just over two-thirds of them but James Rew is timing it nicely and has clearly accelerated, he made just seven of their first 50 together but has moved onto 29.

Somerset trail by 40 runs but on a track like this, with two batters seeing it so nicely, they'll have their sights on a decent lead... weather permitting.

  12. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 205-2

No bowler enjoys being on the receiving end of a scoop shot to the boundary, so Jordan Thompson will be fuming at the moment.

Marnus Labuschagne, who seems to have pressed the accelerator after lunch, has done that twice to Thompson in successive overs and also creamed Mickey Edwards twice to the boundary to bring up 200.

He's up to 79 not out, with Sam Northeast on 66 - and, with the lead now pushing 350, you sense Glamorgan are pushing for a declaration that would give them four-plus sessions to bowl Yorkshire out.

  13. 100 runs

for Tom Kohler-Cadmorepublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Somerset 206-4 v Northamptonshire 255

    An 11th first-class century for Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

He hit 16 fours and a six in the 71 balls he faced on Friday to reach 95..

He has walloped the first ball he has seen today from Jack White back over the bowler's head for a big six to bring up three figures.

After waiting all night and morning, that is spectacular nerve!

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 186-2

Back under way after lunch at Headingley, where Yorkshire resume their quest to break this flourishing Glamorgan third-wicket partnership.

Glamorgan have picked up where they left off, with Marnus Labuschagne playing a cheeky scoop shot to bring him four off Jordan Thompson. He and Sam Northeast have now added 129 and Glamorgan's lead is up to 325.

  16. Glamorgan will be mindful of the weatherpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 6 May 2023

    Glamorgan 245 & 178-2 v Yorkshire 106

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Glamorgan have stretched their lead to a formidable 317 going into the afternoon session with the experienced pair of Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Northeast largely untroubled by the inconsistent home attack.

The batters were content to accumulate gently for much of the first session before stepping up the pace just before lunch.

Northeast slapped a six over third man off Jordan Thompson as he reached a red-ball 50 for the first time since his 410 not out at Leicester last July.

It took until the 150th over of the match for spin to appear, and Labuschagne tucked into Dom Bess’s second over with three boundaries from two reverse sweeps and a scoop shot.

Glamorgan will have half an eye on the weather in deciding how hard to push before a potential declaration.

Better news from Taunton - where play is due to start at 1400 BST following the umpires' latest inspection.

There will be 67 overs to be bowled in the day, with tea scheduled for 16:05 BST.

Overhead conditions are still a tad gloomy but at least we have some cricket to look forward to.

    Yorks 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 178-2

Very much Glamorgan's session - they've added 121 runs and kept all eight of the second-innings wickets they had intact going into this third day.

Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out) and Sam Northeast (61 not out) are both going strong, with the Australian taking three boundaries off the final over of the session from Dom Bess.

With Glamorgan now leading by 317, they'll be thinking about piling on more runs this afternoon and putting Yorkshire under real pressure in the fourth innings.
