Well another heavily rain-affected round of matches but still some great games and important wins.

Surrey are back on top of Division One having beaten Middlesex.

Warwickshire are second after beating Essex and Notts fourth following their huge win against Northants.

In Division Two, Durham won a thriller against Yorkshire by one wicket and Glamorgan hammered Worcestershire.

Join us again on Thursday for more County Championship action.

Until then, hope you've enjoyed this week, goodbye.

  2. DERBYSHIRE DRAW WITH GLOUCESTERSHIREpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Derbys 251-9d & 166-5 v Glos 383

And that is indeed the final over.

A day and a session wiped out by rain made a result very difficult but the Glosters have given it a good go in the second half of the game.

They took a big lead and took three wickets in no time before tea.

But Leus de Plooy's unbeaten 61 has taken Derbyshire to safety.

Rain has followed Gloucestershire around this season and, like at Worcestershire, they run out of time on the final day when looking set to win.

  3. Postpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Derbys 166-5 lead by 34 v Glos

Glos opening bat Chris Dent is now bowling so you'd think the end is nigh.

Back at the start of his career, his left-arm spin was a handy string to his bow.

But that was a long time ago now.

  4. Postpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Derbys 162-5 lead by 30 v Glos

Luis Reece is doing a fine job in helping Leus du Plooy snuff out any remaining hope for Gloucestershire.

13 overs to go at Derby and this just depends on how long Gloucestershire want to go on for.

Derbyshire obviously can't just declare with their lead so slim unless the Glosters agree not to bat again.

Glos would need three overs to try and chase the runs, plus two for change of innings, so Gloucestershire probably need these five wickets in eight overs.

  5. Final hour at Derbypublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Derbys 153-5 lead by 21 v Glos

16 overs remain at the Racecourse.

Derbyshire's lead is still only 21 so they still need to see out a few more overs here to make sure of a draw.

Leus du Plooy is 58 not out.

  6. KENT DRAW WITH HAMPSHIREpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 14 May 2023
    Breaking

    Kent 95 & 259-4 v Hampshire 373

Kent have pulled a result out of the fire as the captains agree a draw with the home side on 259-4, still trailing Hampshire by 19 with nine overs to play.

Defeat looked inevitable for Kent when they were skittled for a paltry 95 on day one.

But a combination of bad weather - which wiped out most of day two - and disciplined batting on a pitch which has grown steadily benign has saved their bacon.

Half-centuries from Zak Crawley, Ben Compton and Jack Leaning have done the job on the final day.

Kent take eight points, and Hampshire claim 11.

The draw lifts Kent off the bottom of Division One and above Northants, while Hampshire move level on points with third-placed Nottinghamshire.

    Kent 95 & 253-4 v Hampshire 373

James Vince is turning his arm over for Hampshire as the match heads for a draw.

Jack Leaning helps himself to a single off it.

Only wicketkeeper Ben Brown and Fletcha Middleton have yet to bowl in this innings.

    Eleven to go.

    Wagstaff c Price b Zafar Gohar 18 (Derbys 139-5 lead by 7 v Glos)

Gloucestershire strike again. Mitch Wagstaff falls to Zafar Gohar's left-arm spin.

18 overs left - minus two for the change of innings.

Can they hustle out the lower order?

    Kent 95 & 252-4 v Hampshire 373

Little of note to report at Canterbury.

Jack Leaning hasn't been able to show his repertoire of strokes, but off his 191st ball he produces a lovely shot for four.

It's then back-to-back boundaries off James Fuller as Leaning opens up a little and moves to 66. Hold on to your hats.

Kent are behind by 26 now with 13 overs to go. Unless we call an end to this prematurely.

  10. DERBYSHIRE LEADpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Derbys 136-4 lead by 4 v Glos

Still 20 overs available at Derby and the hosts are beginning to see out the trip.

Leus de Plooy is 55 not out and leading them home after tea.

  11. LEICESTERSHIRE DRAW WITH SUSSEXpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    270 & 295-6d f/o v Sussex 430

Wiaan Mulder reaches his hundred and the draw is shaken on.

Leicestershire have done enough on the final day to save the game following on.

There were in trouble at 65-4 but Rishi Patel's third century of the season gave them hope before Mulder finished the job with an unbeaten 102

Sussex denied but a game Tom Alsop will always remember after a career-best 182 not out.

  12. Postpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Kent 95 & 233-4 v Hampshire 373

I think Hampshire have resigned themselves to the inevitable.

Nick Gubbins is brought on for a rare spell of leg spin.

Kent were wobbling at 126-3 when three quick wickets fell this morning, but just one wicket has fallen since lunch.

The hosts trail by 45 on a benign pitch and there are 17 overs remaining.

  13. 50 runs

for Jack Leaningpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Kent 95 & 232-4 v Hampshire 373

    There it is.

It’s taken 177 balls but it’s worth the wait as Jack Leaning brings up his second half-century of the season.

He pulls Keith Barker for a single to bring up the landmark.

Leaning’s mission was all about eating up time and he’s done that and surely guided Kent to a hard-earned draw at Canterbury.

He and Jordan Cox have ground their way to a stately 50-run fifth-wicket partnership off a monumental 204 balls.

  14. 50 runs

for Tom Scrivenpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Leics 283-6 f/o lead by 123 v Sussex

Tom Scriven swings Brad Currie for six and reaches his fifty in 74 balls, also with eight fours.

21 overs (minus two) to go and Leicestershire are almost home.

  15. Postpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Leics 268-6 f/o lead by 102 v Sussex

Wiaan Mulder is now 85 not out and leading Leicestershire to safety.

Still 24 overs (minus two for change of innings) to go but Sussex are now looking at a heist to try and pull this off.

Probably needs a little more batting to force the handshake.

  16. LANCASHIRE DRAW WITH SOMERSETpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 14 May 2023
    Breaking

    Lancashire 326 v Somerset 361 & 398-5

Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas steps forward and shakes the hand of Somerset batter James Rew to signal an end to the action at Old Trafford.

All results were possible at the start of play with Somerset 114-3 and leading by 148, but the lack of either quick runs or quick wickets has delivered the likeliest outcome.

James Rew (118) and Kasey Aldridge (101) guided the visitors to 398-5 with an unbroken 192-run stand.

Nine bowlers had a turn for Lancashire in that innings which ended, suitably with paceman Saqib Mahmood sending down some spin.

Two well-matched teams, but both continue to labour down in the lower reaches of Division One.

It’s a fifth straight draw for the Red Rose and a fourth draw out of five for the West Country side.

  17. Postpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Kent 95 & 224-4 v Hampshire 373

Hopes of a win are slipping away from Hampshire here.

Mohammed Abbas has had no luck in this innings and a short ball catches Jordan Cox unawares and loops off the splice of his bat.

It goes to where an orthodox first slip would be, but James Vince is standing wide of wicketkeeper Ben Brown and it flies through the gap for four.

Kent trail by 54 and there are 23 overs left.

    An innings he’ll remember.

A maiden first-class century for Kasey Aldridge in his 12th match, albeit in a match which is on the road to nowhere.

He goes there in style with a huge six off Dane Vilas.

He’s reached the landmark in 143 balls with eight fours and two maximums.

  19. Postpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Lancashire 326 v Somerset 361 & 390-5

    Well batted!

James Rew moves to 118 with a single off Dane Vilas and brings up his highest first-class score.

He's taken a fair amount of them from the less-than-hostile bowling of Dane Vilas, Steven Croft and George Bell.

But there's no denying he's in a rich vein of form. It's his third ton of the season.

    Handshakes all round soon surely.
