for Rishi Patelpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Leics 187-4 f/o lead by 27 v Sussex

What a fine innings this is under pressure from Rishi Patel.

He drives Brad Curries beautifully past mid-on to reach his third first-class hundred - all of them coming this season.

This hundred in 154 balls with 16 fours and three sixes.

Leicestershire now very well placed to save the game with 46 overs left.

    Lancashire 326 v Somerset 361 & 284-5

    What's the word?

Twelfth man Peter Siddle wanders out with a fresh pair of gloves for James Rew.

The Aussie bowler passes a message on from the Somerset dressing room.

Will Rew be given licence to go for his ton? He moves to 81.

  3. new ball

New ballpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Lancashire 326 v Somerset 361 & 279-5

Are Lancashire making a point here?

The unlikely combination of Steven Croft and Dane Vilas are now working in tandem with the new ball.

Perhaps they're asking Somerset to get a wriggle on as the game drifts towards a draw.

  4. LEICESTERSHIRE LEADpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Leics 162-4 f/o lead by 2 v Sussex

Rishi Patel whacks James Coles' left-arm spin for six over long-on and then sweeps him for four to put the Foxes in front at Grace Road.

    Patel now up to 84.

  5. Postpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Surrey 38-1 (Target: 70) v Middlesex

Surrey are halfway there with Dom Sibley and Ryan Patel, with back-to-back boundaries off Toby Roland-Jones, making gentle progress in the south London sunshine.

  6. Postpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Lancashire 326 v Somerset 361 & 273-5

James Rew is eyeing up a second century of the match - and a third of the season against Lancashire.

He made 117 against the Red Rose at Taunton last month and 105 in the first innings here.

He steers Tom Hartley away for the 12th four of his innings to go to 78.

  7. 50 runs

for Wiaan Mulderpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

Leics 152-4 f/o trail by xx v Sussex

Leicestershire badly needed a partner for Rishi Patel, who's led this second-innings with 74 not out so far.

And Wiaan Mulder has been the man either side of lunch.

He goes to a 92-ball fifty - and some most-welcome runs after a terrible run of form.

    1, 11, 5, 9, 0 and 7 are the South African's numbers before this match.

He made 24 in the first innings to hint at some form.

This knock has helped Leicestershire almost to parity and now they can try and build the lead which makes it even trickier for Sussex to force victory.

  8. Gloucestershire all outpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Derbyshire 251-9 dec v Gloucs 383

Gloucestershire's first innings comes to an end with a healthy lead of 132. Matt Taylor is left unbeaten on 57, a career-best score.

51 overs remain. As I said a bit earlier, a few quick wickets and it's game on.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Billings lbw b Barker 29 (Kent 95 & 182-4 v Hampshire 373)

    Game on?

Just as the game seemed to be drifting, Keith Barker gets one to zip through low and pin Sam Billings in front for 29.

Nice knock from the Kent skipper, but a handy 56-run stand comes to an end and the hosts still need 96 to avoid an innings defeat.

Jordan Cox comes in to join Jack Leaning. The match is back in the mixer.

  10. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Kent 95 & 182-3 v Hampshire 373

Liam Dawson made the breakthrough this morning and Hampshire have asked the spinner to do the same again.

He took two wickets in five balls to get rid of Zak Crawley and Tawande Muyeye.

His second over of the afternoon brings a few yelps from the Hampshire fielders, but Sam Billings sees it out safely for a maiden.

The Kent deficit is now down to double figures - 96.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Burns c Eskinazi b Murtagh 14 (Surrey 17-1 (Target: 70) v Middlesex)

Rory Burns was so fluent in the first innings but won't be seeing his side home here as he edges Tim Murtagh to slip.

  12. 250 runs

up for Somersetpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Lancashire 326 v Somerset 361 & 250-5

Tom Hartley into his 26th over of the innings and James Rew (65) milks him for a single to bring up the 250.

Kasey Aldridge up to 15 at the other end.

The lead is up to 286 and there's 51 overs left in the day.

  13. Postpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Leics 136-4 f/o trail by 24 v Sussex

Leicestershire are having a little fightback here after lunch.

Rishi Patel flicks Fynn Hudson-Prentice over mid-on all the way for six and then later in the over goes again for four.

55 overs left in the day and Leicestershire are going to have to see off probably as many as 40 of them to save the game.

  14. Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Kent 95 & 178-3 v Hampshire 373

Kent have steadied the ship after losing three quick wickets this morning.

The fourth-wicket partnership between Sam Billings and Jack Leaning has had a few let-offs but is up to fifty.

Billings has the lion’s share of runs with 27, as you might expect, and the deficit is now down to 103.

A minimum of 56 overs remain for Hampshire to force a win.

  15. Postpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Surrey 16-0 (Target: 70) v Middlesex

Rory Burns peels off two boundaries in an over from Toby Roland-Jones and Surrey are up and running in this little chase.

Shouldn't take too long this and Middlesex know they are done for.

  16. Postpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Lancashire 326 v Somerset 361 & 243-3

Slow bowler Luke Wells into the Lancashire attack which has, of course, lost James Anderson whose 'minor issue' remains unconfirmed.

Good fielding on the boundary prevents a first-ball four off Kasey Aldridge, but his second ball is a pie and is easily dispatched to the rope.

He recovers to get out of the over with four dots. The match is meandering.

  17. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Derbyshire 251-9 dec v Gloucestershire 350-8

Zafar Gohar and Matt Taylor's ninth-wicket stand is now worth 75 for Gloucestershire. Both are approaching fifties and they've just taken the visitors to a third batting bonus point.

The draw is still very much the favourite in this Division Two fixture, but a few early wickets in the Derbyshire second innings might set the nerves jangling.

  18. Postpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Kent 95 & 164-3 v Hampshire 373

James Fuller wraps Sam Billings on the pads, but the Kent batter survives a huge appeal.

The next ball he tries an expansive pull but misses. Cue more vociferous groans from the slip cordon.

Hampshire are on the hunt for quick wickets, but Billings (25) and Jack Leaning (9) have negotiated the post-lunch session in relative comfort.

    Kent trail by 114.

  19. 50 runs

up for James Rewpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Lancashire 326 v Somerset 361 & 227-5

    A batter in form.

James Rew sweeps Tom Hartley to the deep backward square leg boundary and reaches fifty for the fourth time this season, off 99 balls.

He survived a few scares early on but has settled well to his work.

The 19-year-old scored 117 against the Red Rose at Taunton last month, but there may not be time for another century.

    Somerset lead by 262.

  20. 100 runs

up for Leicestershirepublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Leics 101-4 f/o trail by 59 v Sussex

Rishi Patel has gone to a 106-ball fifty with an amazing stroke, going down on one knee to swing a lofted drive over mid-off and all way for six!

Hundred up for the Foxes but still have it all to do this afternoon.
