That was hit ferociously hard. Leach's hand on it really did save the umpire there.

McCollum 20, Stirling 23
You're in, Dave.
Paul Stirling, meanwhile, has almost cleaned up Jack Leach and the umpire with one biffing drive. I don't think the powerful Irishman is going to block against the spinner.

Dave Foot: Body Parts XI - can I play?
McCollum 20, Stirling 22
There was a bit of swagger in this shot from James McCollum a little earlier...

That is a very pure shot from Paul Stirling, just using the pace to guide the ball beautifully.
He is a very important player for Ireland in this situation.
Shot!
Paul Stirling strikes back-to-back boundaries off debutant seamer Josh Tongue. The second is a lovely guide through point.
Stirling has played a lot here for Middlesex.
Opener James McCollum has a Test average of 15 but his first-class record is a more healthy 39.12. Every now and again he looks like he's going to get his pad in the way when batting against Jack Leach.
Shot of the day so far!
With a flourish James McCollum drives Tongue for four on the rise.
The bowler will still be licking his lips to see shots like that. Sorry...

It looks like it might have clipped his trouser pocket but it nipped down the hill quite drastically.
Move on.
The ball flicked James McCollum's pocket rather than bat.
Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
It's a beautiful delivery. It pretty much chopped McCollum in half.
Woooft! That's a ripper from Josh Tongue. The slip cordon is appealing for caught behind but there was nothing from the debutant.
Oh! Ben Stokes fancies another look.
This is Stuart Broad's pitchmap so far.
The orange dots are the wicket deliveries so there isn't a particular length that has brought the England seamer more success so far. One has been just short of a length, another was bang on a good length and another just sneaking into the full zone.

You can sense that Paul Stirling is itching to attack Jack Leach here...
McCollum 12, Stirling 11
Tidy from Leach to get us going again after lunch with Jonny Bairstow chirping away behind the stumps.
Just joining us? Stuart Broad has taken all three wickets so far...
Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
Josh Tongue looks a handy bowler, from what we have seen so far. He's bowling at around 87-88mph and that's what England have picked him for.
More good stuff from Josh Tongue - his second maiden from two overs. He nudges 88mph and the final delivery zips off the pitch to beat James McCollum with the bounce. Bairstow takes the ball in front of his face.
The umpire waves drinks onto the field.

Only once since 1954 has a spinner bowled earlier in the first innings of a Lord's Test match than this, and that was Shakib Al Hasan in 2010.
Six runs come from Leach's first over.
Paul Stirling is onto 10 now. He could have been out first ball...
