  1. Ire 89-4published at 29 overs

    Oh, here we go!

Lorcan Tucker plays an audacious straight pull-type shot over mid-on for four, which doesn't go down too well with Stuart Broad.

Tucker then takes a couple of steps down the pitch to defend, which is greeted by a stare, and I sense a fun battle brewing...

Jack Leach is a changed bowler under Ben Stokes.

  3. Ire 84-4published at 28 overs

The Irish pair nudge and nurdle Jack Leach around to take five runs off the over, including a brave sweep off middle stump that just flies over Jonny Bairstow's head.

There is very little movement out there for England's bowlers now.

  4. Ire 79-4published at 27 overs

Just the single from Broad's over, as Tucker concludes it with a wild swipe at a very wide delivery. He shakes his head in disappointment at himself, lucky not to get an edge.

  5. Ire 78-4published at 26.1 overs

    McCollum 29, Tucker 8

Stuart Broad takes the first over after the break, and James McCollum successfully defends the first ball.

    Solid.

I wonder if the players' lunch included raspberries in their salad?

Either way, Ben Stokes leads the side out and they all look pretty happy. It's brightened up at Lord's now after the cloudy start this morning, which should suit Ireland's batters.

Can they make the most of it?

Kepler Blood Wessels is still a strong favourite of mine, I think.

As we have mentioned this match marks the start of a packed summer of cricket.

Next week Australia and India compete in the World Test Championship final at The Oval before the men's Ashes begin on 16 June at Edgbaston.

The Women’s Ashes gets underway a week later on 22 June and ticket sales are already breaking records.

The ECB announced yesterday new naming rights partners, Metro Bank, for the series and additional investment in the women’s and girls’ game.

You'll be able to follow it all across BBC Sport and Test Match Special.

But fair play to James McCollum, who has stood his ground and battled his way to 29 not out from 93 balls.

He will resume with Lorcan Tucker after lunch, who has eight.

Paul Stirling took the attack to England in his 30, but eventually Jack Leach won the battle that was brewing nicely between the pair.

Anyway, sticking to the actual cricket, it's been a great start for England this morning.

The first three wickets fell to Stuart Broad, the first of which included his trademark celebrappeal to start the international summer in style.

That left Ireland struggling at 19-3, before a key partnership of 45 between James McCollum and Paul Stirling steadied things a little.

Anyone else now thinking they'd love to see Tom Jones on a cricket live text?

On TMS there'll be a discussion about the state and strength of Irish cricket during the lunch break.

Here it's time for me to hand over to Wales' finest. No, we haven't recruited Tom Jones over the winter. Ffion Wynne will take you through the interval and the session beyond.

England will be really happy. They got off to a brilliant start. The partnership between McCollum and Stirling was key for Ireland.

England will know if they can get a wicket after lunch they can climb in and bowl Ireland out cheaply.

  18. Lunch - Ire 78-4published at 26 overs

    McCollum 29, Tucker 8

And that is lunch on day one of the first Test of the summer.

It has been all very familiar - a session dominated by Stuart Broad.

That was a rare poor delivery from Matthew Potts and James McCollum dispatched it delightfully.

  20. Ire 78-4published at 25.5 overs

Whacked for four! Too wide from Matthew Potts and James McCollum goes more Virender Sehwag than Kraigg Brathwaite here.

One ball remains in the session...
