    Surrey 52-1 v Kent 278

Dom Sibley (17) and Ollie Pope (12) have guided Surrey past 50.

Of potentially more interest, England vice captain Pope's County Championship average at the Oval crept into three figures when he reached nine.

He can make it to three figures for his first-class average if he reaches 148 not out.

  2. wicket

WICKET Potts c Hammond b Akhter 0published at 18:14 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 374-9

Zaman Akhter has his first Championship wicket for Gloucestershire as Matthew Potts is caught at point.

It is four years since Akhter's only previous first-class match - for Oxford MCCU against Middlesex, when he had match figures of 0-112.

  3. 50 runs

for Liam Dawsonpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 331-6 v Northamptonshire

Liam Dawson cracks James Sales to the ropes for his seventh four and moves to his 47th first-class half-century.

He also made one last weekend. In some nick, is Dawson. Can he add to his 11 centuries if Hampshire bat into tomorrow afternoon?

  4. wicket

WICKET Porter c Montgomery b Paterson 3published at 18:06 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Notts v Essex 298

Notts deny Essex a second batting point as Dane Paterson has Jamie Porter caught at third slip. Straight into Matthew Montgomery's midriff, he couldn't really drop that one.

Having been 188-3, Essex may feel slightly disappointed by their total, but had no answer to the new ball as Notts took the final five wickets for just 28 runs.

Brett Hutton returns figures of 4-69, with three wickets each for Paterson and England's Stuart Broad.

  5. 50 runs

for Steve Smithpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 187-4 v Glamorgan 123

Steve Smith cracks James Harris away and comes back for a third to move to 50, just his 58th in first-class cricket but his first for Sussex.

It came from 98 balls with seven fours.

Warming up nicely, from an Australian perspective...

  6. 300 runs

up for Somersetpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 302-5

Lewis Gregory pulls one from Toby Roland-Jones down the hill for four to get his side a second batting point in the 90th over.

20 overs left to try to reach 450 for the maximum five.

  7. 100 runs

for Graham Clarkpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 369-8

A single to square leg off Zafar Gohar and Graham Clark reaches his century off 153 balls - only his second in first-class cricket.

He has hit a six and 13 fours and looks well chuffed as he acknowledges the applause.

Three balls later, though, and he falls lbw to Gohar for exactly 100 and the left-arm spinner now has 4-95.

  8. Postpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey 44-1 v Kent 278

Wes Agar is discomfiting Ollie Pope and thunders one into his pads prompting a big appeal from the cordon.

Looks to be drifting down leg side but it's a testing spell from Agar and Michael Hogan in the lengthening shadows at the Oval.

Arafat Bhuiyan is coming on for his first first-class over.

Blackheath last week, the Oval today. Life comes at you fast.

  9. Postpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 317-6 v Northamptonshire

A gorgeous cover drive to the fence from Liam Dawson off James Sales is followed two balls later by a slightly less gorgeous but no less effective one from Keith Barker.

Dawson keeps stretching out his hamstring. He's certainly not 100% out there.

  10. Postpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Worcs 83 v Leics 173 & 16-0

All boundaries so far for Leicestershire - two each for Rishi Patel and Sol Budinger. The Foxes lead by 106 but based on what has happened already today, it would be a big surprise if these two are still together at the close.

    Sussex 182-4 v Glamorgan 123

A misfield from big Timm van der Gugten at mid-on gifts Steve Smith a welcome four.

A few balls later, Zain ul-Hassan offers width and that is thumped through the covers for four more.

He is within three of a maiden Sussex half-century.

That last four brought up a half-century stand between him and young James Coles.

  12. Postpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 358-7

A square cut and a pull shot off Zaman Akhter, both for four, and Graham Clark is 99 not out for Durham at Bristol.

  13. wicket

WICKET Bracewell b Hutton 7published at 17:53 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Notts v Essex 291-9

Doug Bracewell is in no man's land as the ball jags back off the seam and he can only chop it down into his stumps as he doesn't have enough room for the cut he was contemplating.

Nine down now, and Essex will probably be content just to add the nine runs needed for a second batting point.

  14. Latest from Division Twopublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

Durham have lost another wicket at Bristol, with Ben Raine lbw to Zafar Gohar for two.

The visitors are 350-7 - so they have a third batting point - with Graham Clark still there on 91.

  15. Postpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 294-5

The dismissal of Tom Kohler-Cadmore has changed the mood at Lord's.

Tim Murtagh and Toby Roland-Jones are on the mark with the new ball and just one run has been scored since TKC was out.

up for Hampshirepublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 302-6 v Northamptonshire

Liam Dawson has moved to 40, despite looking like he's limping, and Keith Barker has eight.

The second batting bonus point comes up courtesy of four leg byes off Tom Taylor.

WICKET Snater c Montgomery b Broad 1published at 17:48 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Stuart BroadImage source, Rex Features

Shane Snater tries to whip Stuart Broad towards mid-wicket but the ball flies off the edge and Matthew Montgomery shows good reactions at third slip as he moves to his right to take the catch.

Three wickets with the new ball for Notts - two of them for Broad, who now has figures of 3-48.

  18. Postpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 171-4 v Glamorgan 123

A lovely front foot pull from James Coles off Zain ul-Hassan brings him his third four in his last three balls after successive boundaries off Michael Neser in the previous over.

The teenager is up to 30 and is only eight behind his partner at the other end.

  19. Postpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey 29-1 v Kent 278

Ollie Pope gets off the mark with an aggressive clip to the deep mid-wicket boundary off Michael Hogan.

    A sign of intent.

  20. Leicestershire lead by 90published at 17:44 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Worcs 83 v Leics 173

Twenty wickets in the day at New Road and still time for more.

Worcestershire's first innings comes to an end as Jack Brooks tries a....well, only he knows...and the ball is caught by Chris Wright at mid-off.

Wiaan Mulder takes the wicket for figures of 2-11, but Wright was the real star of the show with 5-32 from 10 overs.
