    Sussex 115-3 v Glamorgan 123

Beautiful shot off the back foot to bring up his 50. No need to run for that whatsoever.

A second 50 of the season for Tom Haines, this one has come off 58 balls with eight boundaries.

WICKET Haynes c Mulder b Wright 6published at 16:40 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Worcs 34-3 v Leics 173

You have to feel for Jack Haynes. Since making 134 not out and 40 against Durham in mid-April, he has scored 28 runs in seven innings.

He fails again as a Chris Wright away swinger takes the edge and Wiaan Mulder holds the catch at first slip.

It's two in two for Wright as Adam Hose follows first ball in similar fashion to Leave Worcestershire 34-4 - but Brett D'Oliveira prevents the hat-trick.

James Vince drives Rob Keogh to long-off for another boundary to move to 78.

A batting bonus point is within one lusty blow.

Liam Dawson has 24 at the other end.

He had to reach for that a little, but Simon Harmer makes clean contact and strokes Brett Hutton away through the covers for four.

Another boundary follows in the next over, bowled by Steven Mullaney, as Harmer advances to 19 not out.

  5. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 108-3 v Glamorgan 123

Jamie McIlroy opens up after tea by bowling six dots to Steve Smith.

Glamorgan need a good session otherwise this match could slip away from them. Removing Smith quickly would be very useful.

  6. Latest from Division Twopublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

No matter the situation, Ed Pollock can be relied on to attack. The Worcestershire opener pulls Josh Davey away for six to move to 22 and they are 29-2, replying to Leicestershire's 173 all out.

Graham Clark is now 43 not out for Durham, who are 254-5 against Gloucestershire at Bristol and have a batting point.

  7. Postpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 261-9

Clearly bored of repetitive straight drives to the fence, Michael Hogan despatches Jordan Clark's latest delivery through mid-wicket to the ropes.

Not quite so polished, but he won't mind a jot. He has 30.

  8. Postpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 257-9

Come for Surrey's stellar bowling attack, stay for Michael Hogan's front-foot drive down the ground showcase.

He has five fours in his 26 from 33 balls, four of them straight back past the bowler.

Make no mistake this flurry of boundaries from Hogan and Joey Evison owe nothing to luck and very little to poor bowling. It's intent, coupled with growing confidence.

  9. Postpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

A nice way to start the final session for George Bartlett as he tucks Tim Murtagh away to long leg for four. He is now 119 not out.

    Surrey v Kent 250-9

Call the police. Kent have absolutely burgled a batting bonus point at the Oval. Just their third of the season.

The culprits are described as a 21-year-old all-rounder and a couple of imposing fast bowlers. Keep an eye out for them.

Joey Evison has 72 and Michael Hogan, nearly double his age, has 22 at the other end.

Kent were 118-7 in the 41st over. They are 132-2 in the 28 overs since.

    County cricket, eh...

    Notts v Essex 207-5

Plenty for Essex to think about over tea after losing those four wickets during the afternoon.

Adam Rossington is on strike to Steven Mullaney at the start of the day's final session.

A single each for Rossington and Simon Harmer gets the scoreboard moving again.

Joey Evison carts Dan Worrall for another 10 off two deliveries. Astonishing stuff at the Oval.

Michael Hogan had punched yet another straight drive for four to start the over. 16 off it in the end.

The partnership is 52 in under nine overs.

  13. Hove crowd happy to see Smithpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 108-3 v Glamorgan 123 - tea

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Australia batter Steve Smith came out to healthy applause on his one and only home appearance for Sussex, with the Hove crowd also applauding his single to get off the mark and a sumptuous cover-driven boundary off fellow Aussie Michael Neser.

Smith came in after Sussex had slipped from 76 without loss to 83-3, with Ali Orr bowled for a rapid 40 leaving a ball from Jamie McIlroy.

Neser, who had been expensive from the sea end, found more success down the slope as he quickly sent back Tom Alsop and captain Cheteshwar Pujara, out for nought in a rare failure.

But Smith was poised ominously on 18 at tea with Tom Haines on 45.

Earlier England paceman Ollie Robinson tore Glamorgan apart with 4-29 - including Marnus Labuschagne lbw for one, to the first ball he faced from Robinson.

Dropped catchpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 220-4 v Northamptonshire

Tom Taylor had very little time to react to this but it has to go down as a drop.

Rob Keogh tempts Liam Dawson into a slash and the edge flies to Taylor at a very close first slip who can't quite get his fingers around the ball as it flies towards his chest.

Dawson lives to fight another day.

  15. Tea at Hovepublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 108-3 v Glamorgan 123

Tom Haines defends the last ball of the session and that is tea. He is 45 not out and his partner at the other end, some guy like Smith, has 18.

They have calmed things after the mini collapse from 76-0 to 81-3.

Sussex trail by 15 and the good crowd at Hove will hope that the Australian great can play a significant innings.

  19. Postpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

Another nicely-timed punch down the track from Michael Hogan off Jordan Clark finds the ropes and takes him to 15 from 18 balls.

He's all smiles until he realises that tea is going to be delayed by 30 minutes as Kent are nine down.

He and Joey Evison have to keep going. 31 added for this wicket in six overs.

  20. Stroke-filled century for Bartlettpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 212-3

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

There was some considerable surprise when the news came through this morning that George Bartlett had kept his place in the Somerset side, having contributed no more than 45 runs in four innings in this season's County Championship.

But Bartlett had the doubters eating their words as he reached an elegant, stroke-filled century shortly before tea.

OK, so he was dropped by Eskinazi at slip when he had scored just 25, but he rode his luck, and the 183 that he and his captain Tom Abell added for the third wicket has put his county firmly in the box seat.
