  1. wicket

WICKET Agar b Lawes 31published at 15:30 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 192-8

    The partnership is broken.

Tom Lawes returns to the attack and gets one to jag back at Wes Agar and the ball clatters into the top of middle-and-off... I think via a slight nick off the bat.

74 vital runs were added for the eighth wicket with Joey Evison, who is joined by first-class debutant Arafat Bhuiyan, who was playing in the Kent League last week.

  2. wicket

WICKET Brown b Sales 44published at 15:29 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 194-4 v Northamptonshire

James Sales gets Ben Brown to chop on via an inside edge for 44. He is a picture of frustration as he tosses his bat into the air. The 106-run partnership for the fourth wicket is broken.

James Vince is joined in the middle by Liam Dawson.

  3. wicket

WICKET Lawrence c Clarke b Hutton 16published at 15:27 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Notts v Essex 188-4

Unnecessary dismissal for Dan Lawrence, who tries to come down the pitch to Brett Hutton but edges through to the keeper.

Good fightback by Notts and that is three England batters back in the dressing room since lunch, with Lawrence following Alastair Cook and Tom Westley.

Adam Rossington comes out to join Matt Critchley.

  4. wicket

WICKET Orr b McIlroy 40published at 15:27 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 76-1 v Glamorgan 123

    Glamorgan need this!

Ali Orr punches one through the covers from Jamie McIlroy to move to 40, but he makes the wrong decision to leave the next one, which crashes into his stumps.

The 11th wicket to fall today and the third batter bowled offering no shot!

  5. 100 runs

partnership for Hampshirepublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 187-3 v Northamptonshire

James Vince has 50 of them, Ben Brown 41. They weathered an early storm but as the sun has come out so have the shots.

What Northants wouldn't give for a breakthrough.

  6. Latest from Division Twopublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

While we were looking at events elsewhere, Durham lost another wicket against Gloucestershire at Bristol, with Ollie Robinson caught behind off Zafar Gohar for 38.

It was a great catch behind the stumps by James Bracey from a thin inside edge as Robinson tries to cut a ball that was too close to him for the shot.

Durham are now 219-5 and Bas de Leede has joined Graham Clark in the middle.

  7. Postpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 179-2

George Bartlett is now only seven runs short of a century.

This is superb batting from him and Tom Abell as remember, Middlesex put them in to bat this morning.

  8. 50 runs

for Colin Ackermannpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Worcs v Leics 171-7

Colin Ackermann has been in poor form recently with scores of 0, 16, 0 and 6 in his four previous innings.

A single off Joe Leach, though, takes him to 50 off 97 balls, with one six and five fours.

He has now put on 54 with Chris Wright, who is again showing his propensity for stubborn batting, and has 30 not out.

  9. 50 runs

for James Vincepublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 182-3 v Northamptonshire

His 49th first-class half-century. From 100 balls with five fours. He soaked up some early pressure but the sailing has become plainer since lunch.

Vince got 186 at Wantage Road last month.... just going to leave that fact there.

  10. Lost ballpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 68-0 v Glamorgan 123-0

Four more to Tom Haines and he is now up to 35.

And his shot has lost the ball! It skipped over the advertising hoarding and play is paused as the players try to find it.

Even umpire Martin Saggers has to get involved!

  11. 50 runs

partnership for Kentpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 175-7

Not for the first time this spring, Joey Evison is trying to come to the rescue for Kent.

The 21-year-old has 33 and is getting some solid support in this endeavour from Wes Agar, not best known for his batting, but who has rattled 20 from 37 balls.

The two have punished some looser fare from Surrey, who maybe thought they'd done the hard work, and have added 57. Gutsy stuff against this Surrey attack with the ball hooping about on a green track.

  12. wicket

WICKET Westley b Paterson 66published at 15:14 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Notts v Essex 174-3

He timed it ok when he reached 50, but Tom Westley's liking for the pull shot is his undoing as he under-edges into his stumps.

That's Dane Paterson's second wicket of the game - but there is a boundary, straight down the ground, for Dan Lawrence at the start of the next over from Lyndon James.

Notts will be feeling a bit brighter now, though.

  13. Postpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Notts v Essex 168-2

He may be only a few days away from re-entering Bazball world, but Dan Lawrence has understandably spent a few minutes taking a look at things at Trent Bridge.

There is his first boundary, though, as he drives Dane Paterson through the covers.

  14. 50 runs

Postpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 55-0 v Glamorgan 123

Jamie McIlroy is thrown the ball after this early Sussex attack but his first over goes for six with Tom Haines getting a four down through gully.

The 50 is up and just think, the hosts have Cheteshwar Pujara and Steve Smith to come.

At this rate, Glamorgan's coach will be the one on media duties after play!

  15. Postpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 175-3 v Northamptonshire

The track at Southampton is lying placid, slow and flat in the spring afternoon warmth like a teenage tabby cat on a patio.

You fear slightly for the Northants seamers, in particular. Could be a lot of toil to come.

James Vince has 42, four more than Ben Brown. They have added 87 for this fourth wicket.

  16. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Sussex 49-0 v Glamorgan 123

Runs continue to flow for Sussex as Ali Orr gets successive legside fours off Timm van der Gugten.

Still only eight overs bowled in this innings.

  17. 50 runs

partnership for Durhampublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Gloucs v Durham 203-4

Durham's total passes 200 as Graham Clark clouts Zafar Gohar for six, and also brings up a 50 stand with Ollie Robinson.

These two have steadied things for the visitors following the dismissal of Scott Borthwick and David Bedingham and are now mixing aggression with defence as they build their partnership.

  18. 150 runs

partnershippublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Middlesex v Somerset 160-2

Tom Abell works Tim Murtagh away for a single into the legside and that brings up the 150-partnership between him and George Bartlett.

Abell has contributed 60 and Bartlett has 86 as they have batted for three hours and faced 275 balls.

From 10-2, this is terrific batting.

  19. 150 runs

up for Kentpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Surrey v Kent 158-7

Joey Evison produces a textbook drive to long-on off Sean Abbott and then follows it up two balls later with back to back clips off his pads through the leg side for four.

A bit loose from Abbott but they don't put themselves away. Evison has 28 and the eighth-wicket partnership reaches 40. One more run and it's Kent's best of the innings. Which tells a story.

  20. 150 runs

up for Hampshirepublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Hampshire 158-3 v Northamptonshire

Alex Russell looks to the heavens after narrowly beating the edge of Ben Brown's bat again.

Some lovely stuff from Russell, drift and a bit of turn, has got his side's tails up. He follows up with a rank full-toss which is slapped away to the deep. Not quite so easy this first-class malarkey, hey Alex?

150-up for the hosts and Brown and James Vince have put on the last 70 of them.
