    Somerset 163 v Nottinghamshire 45-1

    So nearly a second wicket.

Runs haven't been easy to come by so far, but Ben Slater crashes Craig Overton for back-to-back boundaries.

The paceman almost gets his revenge with the next ball when he spears one into Slater's pads and roars a ferocious appeal.

It looked close, very close, but Slater survives.

  2. Postpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Somerset 163 v Nottinghamshire 36-1

Matt Henry continues to impress as play resumes after tea.

The New Zealander has bowled five maidens and threatened a second wicket in his nine overs which have gone for just 11 runs.

But Notts will be happy enough at 36-1, just 127 behind, with Ben Slater (27 not out) settling in nicely.

  4. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Lancashire 236-7 v Surrey

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

Phil Salt has adjusted to red-ball cricket seamlessly despite a year between games.

His century two weeks ago against Hampshire was his first Championship ton for Lancashire in his first red-ball match for 12 months, with a diet of white-ball cricket for England and various one day teams in between.

Following that innings in Southport he’s now backed it up in South London with a solid half century against the best bowling attack in the division.

Salt goes to tea on 56, with Jack Blatherwick on 11.

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 237published at 16:12 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Northamptonshire 237 v Kent

Tom Taylor goes for another big shot but this time he picks out Wes Agar in the deep off Hamidullah Qadri's bowling.

That's the end of the innings and tea will be taken.

Agar took 5-63 from 15 overs and Qadri 3-69 from 19.2 overs.

For the hosts Rob Keogh batted brilliantly but fell three runs short of a century.

  6. Tea at Leicesterpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Leicestershire v Durham 263-4

Leicestershire have fought back well this afternoon after a chastening morning.

They have taken three wickets for 110 runs between lunch and tea, including the key scalp of Alex Lees (101) to claim their first bonus point.

However, Durham are still in a strong position at 263-4 and have claimed their first batting point.

  7. Tea in Cardiffpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Glamorgan 217-7 (64 overs) v Sussex

Good effort from Billy Root in the afternoon session, but Sussex appear to be just edging this one.

  8. Gubbins leads Hampshire fightbackpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Hampshire 183-4 v Middlesex

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Nick Gubbins led Hampshire's fightback against his former county Middlesex as only one wicket fell in the afternoon session.

In his first match against his old employers, Gubbins defiantly dug in against the spinners on a slow and dry surface.

Indeed it was the hosts number six, Liam Dawson, who reached his fifty ahead of the number three at the other end.

Dawson will not mind one but, the balls that are already turning past the edge of both he and Gubbins' bat.

Batting last should be tough on this - so to what extent Hampshire can boss the game from the front feels to thrust of the battle in this first innings.

  9. Delayed tea at Northamptonpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Northamptonshire 230-9 v Kent

With Kent needing one wicket to wrap-up the Northants innings, the tea interval is being delayed.

Strangely, unless he had a knock, Wes Agar has been taken off bowling duty - he was unplayable!

Tom Taylor is flashing the blade around while batting partner Alex Russell waits patiently at the other end, yet to get off the mark.

Half-century for Phil Saltpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Lancashire 218-7 v Surrey

Lancashire batsman Phil SaltImage source, Rex Features

Phil Salt follows up his century as opener a fortnight ago in what proved to be a win over Hampshire with a half-century here, batting at six.

And all that after almost a year in which he had not played a single first-class game.

  11. Tea at Worcesterpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Worcestershire 189-6 Derbyshire

A good afternoon session for Derbyshire who took four wickets.

Anuj Dal (4-39) took the vital scalp of Jake Libby who reached 78 from 187 balls.

Joe Leach and Matthew Waite will be batting at the start of the evening session.

  12. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Essex 247-2 v Warwickshire

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

The way he’s batting, if Dan Lawrence leaves this game overnight to join up with the England squad as expected, he may be handing over to Nick Browne mid innings.

Lawrence (113) and captain Tom Wesley (114) have batted with very few alarms since coming together in the 6th over at 20-2.

Quite clearly Essex’s session that - and very much their day now too.

Seven Bears bowlers have so far had a trundle - and the figures make particularly poor reading for the two spinners.

On-loan Bears debutant Dom Bess has gone for 87 off his 21 overs after being brought in as cover for the injured Danny Briggs, and Jake Lintott, in only his second Championship appearance, has bowled seven overs for 32.

  13. Tea at Southamptonpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Hampshire 183-4 v Middlesex

Liam Dawson and Nick Gubbins have helped themselves to half-centuries in the afternoon session which belongs to Hampshire.

They've had to dig in as the runs were hard to come by but Dawson in particular has opened up a little as the afternoon has gone on.

  14. Tea at Headingleypublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Yorkshire 273-4 v Gloucestershire

Yorkshire have strengthened their position between lunch and tea, spearheaded by century-maker Fin Bean (114) and George Wilson (77 not out).

The Tykes have added 134 runs for the loss of Bean and have their first batting point in the bag.

  15. wicket

WICKET White b Agar 0published at 15:53 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Northamptonshire 217-9 v Kent

Wes Agar does have five wickets!

No hanging around from the Australian who clean bowls Jack White, who lasted four balls.

That's Agar's third wicket in his last two overs and he is flying.

You don't envy the Northants tail facing him in this spell - they have no answer to him at present!

  16. wicket

WICKET Sanderson b Agar 2published at 15:50 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Northamptonshire 217-8 v Kent

Another one for Wes Agar who now has four wickets.

It's another full, straight ball which does Ben Sanderson for pace all ends-up and clatters into the stumps.

Agar has bowled very well in this spell and will be eyeing a five-for.

  17. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Somerset 163 v Nottinghamshire 23-1

Nottinghamshire have made a watchful start and reached 23-1 at tea from 13 overs as they reply to Somerset’s first innings total of 163.

Brett Hutton (5-34) completed a superb five-for as the hosts lost six wickets after lunch for 53 runs.

Craig Overton and Matt Henry have caused problems in the Notts reply, with New Zealand international Henry removing Haseeb Hameed for 0.

  18. wicket

WICKET Keogh lbw Agar 97published at 15:43 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Northamptonshire 216-7 v Kent

    Agony for Rob Keogh!

Three runs from a century and Wes Agar traps Keogh lbw.

Agar's ball was full and stayed low, rapping the pads, meaning heartbreak for Keogh, who gets a consoling pat from a Kent fielder on the way off.

It was a great innings but he just fell short of the century.

  19. 50 runs

for Nick Gubbinspublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Hampshire 175-4 v Middlesex

A second half-century for Hampshire as Nick Gubbins brings up 50 with a boundary off Josh de Caires.

Gubbins has played a patient knock with his half-century coming from 149 balls, including six fours.

He and Liam Dawson have added more than 80 runs to the total and Middlesex will feel they need to break this duo up soon.

  20. wicket

    WICKET - Balderson c Foakes b Clark 34published at 15:39 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Lancashire 201-6 (52.4 overs) v Surrey

Surrey break through again as Lancs old boy Jordan Clark finds the edge.

George Balderson is caught behind to end his 82-run stand with Phil Salt, who is joined by Tom Bailey.

Having been 46-3, Dane Vilas and Daryl Mitchell led the first recovery when they put on 73, only for both to go on the same score.

Salt and Balderson have done another bigger repair job. But Lancs will be keen to avoid losing another asecond wicket in quick succession.

The clear indication is that this is a good time to be batting against the Kookaburra.
