  1. Ire 211-6published at 51 overs

Ouch. The short leg fielder Ollie Pope will be grateful for the shin pads as Andy McBrine pulls a short one straight into his right leg.

Pope has a smile on his face though. He's made of tough stuff.

Are England trying to get the ball changed? The umpires take a look but it passes through their gauge with no issue. As you were.

Jack Leach is back into the attack as we edge towards lunch.

  2. WATCH: Injury scare? Stokes looks in discomfort after taking catchpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

England are going to win so much of the post-match chat could be about this moment.

Ben Stokes does not look comfortable at all.

Ireland have shown a lot of fight in this second innings. Harry Tector was gutted to get out and I did feel a bit bad for him because I really gave him the commentator's curse when he reached his half-century.

I was saying I liked his technique and given how little red-ball cricket he has played, he was impressive.

  4. Ire 208-6published at 50 overs

Mark Adair sweeps Joe Root away for another four and that is Ireland's highest Test score against England.

Great spirit and fight shown this morning.

The crowd enjoyed that one. Mark Adair is showing what he can do with the bat.

    Ire 204-6published at 49.4 overs

    That is huge!

Mark Adair has powered Joe Root way over deep mid-wicket and into the stands.

    Great shot.

You get a bit frustrated with the tail when they're not playing any shots, but that's not the case here. England won't mind the runs flowing because it's more likely that a chance will come.

When the better batter is just hogging an end and blocking, that's more annoying as a bowling side.

  8. Ire 193-6published at 49 overs

Josh Tongue is persisting with the short stuff but Andy McBrine and Mark Adair are able to fend him away for a couple of singles.

They have batted very positively so far.

  9. Ire 191-6published at 48.1 overs

Mark Adair makes a hash of a shot and toe-ends it into the offside - but it falls short of the onrushing fielder.

Josh Tongue, one wicket away from a debut five-fer, looks to the skies in frustration.

Really agree with Vaughan about having Irish players playing in the county game. Not only would it be good for the Irish game but also raise the standard of the county game which can only be a good thing for spectators and English development.

  11. Ire 191-6published at 48 overs

It is all very relaxed here. Ben Duckett is seen smiling away after fielding on the rope for a single.

We have 20 minutes until lunch and Ireland look like surviving this session, which should be considered a small victory given they were 63-3 at one stage last night.

These two batters are not going quietly. It is another short ball from Josh Tongue and Andy McBrine pulls away for four.

That's 25 runs from the last two overs.

  14. Ire 186-6published at 46.2 overs

    Comedy overthrow klaxon!

Joe Root has a shy at the stumps attempting a run out and neither Matthew Potts or Josh Tongue could cut the ball off, gifting Ireland an extra run.

Tom: No way Ben Stokes is getting through five Tests in a short time. Ben Foakes needs to be ready.

That made a very sweet sound off the bat. I do like the way the Irish are playing their shots.

  17. 6 runs

    Ire 184-6published at 46 overs

Now Mark Adair is teeing off! He smashes the ball over mid-wicket for six before sweeping the next delivery for four.

Joe Root got some treatment there - 19 off the over.

That was a very old school piece of fast bowler's fielding! They're too good these days.

I'm sure they'll get Josh Tongue training on those slides!

  19. Ire 173-6published at 45.2 overs

Joe Root is giving the ball a bit of air outside off stump but Andy McBrine drives him away for back-to-back boundaries - the first of which was scooped over the rope by a diving Josh Tongue.

I don't think we can take chances with Stokes' knee any more, but he has to play. Drop Crawley, let Stokes pinch-hit at the top of the order, move Bairstow to six and let Sam Curran come in at seven to balance out the side.
