England giving themselves some rather tired looking low fives. I'm not sure they have the energy for high fives.

Alex Carey paddle-sweeps for two and those are the only runs from the final over. That's stumps and a good day's cricket in which Australia have had the upperhand.
Usman Khawaja has batted brilliantly and will resume on 126 on day three, alongside Carey who is 52 not out.
England did well to remove David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith cheaply on a flat surface and will still be hopefully of earning a first-innings lead - albeit it's likely to be a slim one.

John Petrie: So we are back to relying on Root to get us to a good total. It has been entertaining but anything less than 450 on this pitch having won the toss would be disappointing. Lesson from today: there is more to beating Australia than getting Smith and Labuschagne out cheaply.
Second bit is fair enough but, after the last year, it's a bit harsh to say England just rely on Root to get a good score based on one innings.
Ollie Robinson's work is done for the day as he completes a maiden over to Usman Khawaja.
We've got one over left in the day. Can Moeen Ali snatch another one for England before stumps?

I think it has been quite a bruising day today. England look tired.

It's spinning. Nathan Lyon is going to be licking his lips at this.
England have got to go into their second innings with some sort of lead you'd feel.
More frustration for England.
Moeen Ali follows up that edge by ripping one past Alex Carey's outside edge.
There is plenty of turn for the spinners. Nathan Lyon will like the look of it but then Moeen himself might fancy getting stuck into Australia in the fourth innings of the match.

That was a very skittish way to get to a half-century.
Aus 309-5
So nearly for England!
Moeen Ali finds the edge again as Alex Carey pushes at one that turns away from him.
It is wide of Jonny Bairstow and beats Joe Root to his right at first slip. Not technically a drop but you fancy Root would have taken it earlier in the day.
The ball runs away for four, though, and that's a half-century for Carey.
Worth saying at this juncture that England still have a lead of 88 runs and are one wicket away from getting into the bowlers.
Meanwhile, England unsuccessfully try to get the ball changed.

Bazball is about being brave. It's exciting. But it also needs players to execute the basics. A missed stumping and dropped catch plus a no ball wicket in 1 innings? That's not down to Bazball. That's basics. These marginal losses are costing big time.

Better from Moeen Ali as the over goes on. Just a further single from it.
England are looking tired but so is Usman Khawaja. We've got four overs left in the day and I fancy Alex Carey is the only one out there who isn't pretty keen to get off!

That was a tired delivery from Moeen Ali. There was no energy on the ball.
A drag-down to start from Moeen Ali and Alex Carey hammers it through mid-wicket for four.
That takes Australia past 300.
It's spin time. Moeen Ali is coming on to replace Jimmy Anderson.
He's certainly created chances today. What England would give for one or two more tonight...
Since BazBall, 14 is the most no-balls England have bowled in a single innings. This was also at Edgbaston (v India in 2022). That innings in 2022 was 509 balls, so very comparable to right now.
Other than that, the most they have bowled in an innings is eight.
With regards to Bairstow, today was his first missed stumping since 2019, 50% catch success rate is his lowest in a match (as wicket keeper) since 2019.

This is really hurting England now.
That Stuart Broad no-ball has knocked the stuffing out of the England players a little bit and it is in danger of turning round what was looking like a fantastic day.
Carey 40, Khawaja 126
Ollie Robinson is on to replace Stuart Broad and he takes a few balls to get loose.
In that time Alex Carey is able to thump the ball through the covers for four - and misses out on a couple of long hops, too.
A leg bye completes the scoring from the over.
Jimmy Anderson loses his line momentarily and that allows Usman Khawaja to tuck the ball behind square for two.
That is Anderson's only lapse and otherwise he probes away, firstly around and then over the wicket.

A fair few people are already leaving Edgbaston. Shows exactly what they think of England's day. One of, if not the toughest day of the BazBall era.
