Well, I think the rain has stopped as the super-sopper is circling the outfield. But looking at the radar I'm not sure it is staying dry for long.

Australia would absolutely love to get back out there in these damp, humid conditions.

I don't think you can change your method in the middle of a series. How many times have you heard old players saying 'I wish I hadn't changed'. Bat your way and that clarity can give you confidence.

Ben Duckett doesn't leave the ball. That's his method and has got him picked. He doesn't want to leave the ball so he has to work on attacking those balls when they hang it outside off.

There was about 50% more movement off the pitch in that period between the rain compared to what there was before.

Here is the Zak Crawley wicket.

What an enthralling session of Test cricket that was.

Before everyone gets too excited, let's remember Australia lost 2 early wickets cheaply too! Doesn't mean anything yet...

    Peter in Portsmouth

That was an absolute disgrace to have them out when it was so dark.

    Andrew

I’m sorry those two wickets entirely the umpires fault. Those conditions weren’t fit for a Sunday League game let alone a Test.

Ben Duckett doesn't leave the ball and Cameron Green is a very good gully fielder.

    This is the result:

Australia have had a good burst here for 20 minutes, they've got two wickets. What a 20 minute burst that was.

And here comes the rain. Heavy, heavy rain.

That was a short but potentially pivotal session of cricket.

I think it was the studs scraping on the floor, when it's Joe Root, if there's an element, you have to go for it.

Breathe everyone. There was a gap between bat and ball. Root survives.

Even if it's 50/50, even if it's 10%, you are going to review it, it's Joe Root.

Oh my, has Joe Root nicked behind? Steve Smith is absolutely convinced, he often is to be fair.

    Pat Cummins sends it upstairs.

Given the batter and the match situation I don't blame him.

It feels as though it is raining all around Edgbaston.

This is such a key moment in this match.

The Aussies are sensing an opening here.

Michael: I was praying play wouldn’t resume after the rain. This was inevitable.

Shane O'Neill: Duckett is so unlucky. The conditions aren't fit for play. These overs will decide the match.

Jon Evans: All the luck has been going the Aussies way this game. Even this stormy spell now, just a few overs which massively favours the bowler. Still fancying an England victory though.

Scott Boland gets one to jag right back into new batter Joe Root and smacks into his pads.

Boland pleads with the umpire but no dice.

Pat Cummins, a calm head amongst the chaos, declines the review.
