Very next ball, Scott Boland goes up for another lbw appeal.
Given not out this time and Australia don't review. They only have one left. It did hit the back leg but maybe going over the top again?
Big cheers as Jonny Bairstow blocks the last delivery before lunch. A maiden - but an eventful one to end another fantastic session of Test cricket!

Edgbaston was totally silent as we waited there. And then an eruption of noise. People leapt to their feet to celebrate in the Hollies Stand.

There was a wing of a bee in it!
Missing leg stump by a whisker - Edgbaston erupts!
Never in doubt...

Is it missing? It has to be missing clearly because he's been given out on field.
No bat involved.

Jonny Bairstow looks stuck on the crease. He didn't really move his feet.
Huge moment, Jonny Bairstow has been given out lbw!
He reviews but I think this is optimistic.

'Bazball' comes with risks. Had we played 'traditional' Test match cricket we would lose this series 5-0. Can every commentator and fan please refrain just a little from pulling a panic cord every time a risk backfires, and just accept that England are going to play shots and back themselves. This Aussie team are, sadly, very, very, very good. I'd vastly prefer this competition to the alternative.

Stokes 13, Bairstow 1
Jonny Bairstow is off the mark with a single to point. Despite the game situation, Australia still have plenty of fielders pushed back.
Both Bairstow and Stokes did their best to drag the over out and make it the last before lunch but to no avail.
We will have one more. Scott Boland will bowl it.

It's much quieter at Edgbaston now. Nervy.
Maybe not. Marnus Labuschagne is calling for some pads before going in close to the bat.
Might be pushing it for two overs now.
Ben Stokes blocks the last ball of the over after Jonny Bairstow has hand his hand seen to by the physio.
With Nathan Lyon bowling, there is probably time for two more overs before lunch.

Yes England are getting out to some loose shots but can we please remember that two years ago we were collapsing for low scores playing orthodox Test cricket. Just enjoy it!

England have their first boundary since before Joe Root's dismissal as Ben Stokes advances and then glances Scott Boland down to fine leg for four.
Valuable runs for the home side.
Next ball there is a mix up between Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. The later gets back safely but replays show that the shy at the stumps hit Bairstow's hand and we've got another delay.
Scott Boland was hit out of the attack at the start of the day but with Australia in a decent position, he's back for a brief spell before lunch.

England should have used Stuart Broad as the Lunchhawk.

Theo: Another bad shot… Australia are being quite clever here. They’ve stopped England scoring with a defensive field and know that we can’t help but still play the positive shot.

England need to play traditionally for a little while, I feel. With lunch not far off, these two just needs to get through.
