Has it come off the bottom of the bat? Or hit his back leg? If it's the latter he's in danger. Ben Stokes is shaking his head.

Nathan Lyon is very confident, but Ben Stokes is on the front foot.
Big moment as Australia send an lbw decision against Ben Stokes upstairs.
It looked close. The ball stayed low and hit Stokes on the back leg. Nathan Lyon did get some turn.
Did he get any bat on it?
After three dot balls to start the Josh Hazlewood over, I thought we might be headed for back-to-back maidens - heaven forbid!
Mercifully, Harry Brook wristily flicks the fourth ball to deep mid-wicket for a single and Ben Stokes advances to the last delivery before nudging it square for one.
England are taking a more reserved approach for now but you wouldn't expect it to stay that way for long...

It's all gone a bit quiet since that wicket of Joe Root. England look to be taking a breather as Ben Stokes tries to get himself settled.
Three runs come from Nathan Lyon's over, two leg byes and a single for Harry Brook, whose powerful sweep shot might have deserved more.

Alex Carey now has three stumpings in a Ashes Test match.
This is the first time there have been three stumpings in an Ashes Test since Alan Knott at Headingley in 1968. The last Australian wicketkeeper to do it was Don Tallon in Feb 1947 at the SCG.
Here is that wicket of Joe Root. He'd batted beautifully - and bravely - to get to 46 but skipped past one from Nathan Lyon.
Alex Carey did the rest behind the stumps.

We know the Bazballers do things differently, but I'm intrigued how Ben Stokes will approach this. He's almost playing in an old school way at the moment, because wickets let Australia back in. I was surprised how Joe Root got out - he doesn't dance down the wicket. He sweeps, pulls and cuts.
What's this? A maiden? Ben Stokes has gone ultra Bazball over the last year but he is happy to bide his time here.
The skipper averages just 28.5 in the Bazball era, compared to 35.7 in his career.
I think we can dismiss any notion that this is Stokes trying to improve his stats, though. He's made it clear that he's not fussed by those.

We've got a delay as Josh Hazlewood is not happy with the foot marks.
A member of the ground staff comes out with the mallet to try and sort it out.
Job done, he runs off the field to cheers from the Hollies Stand.

JayRad: Why do we keep charging Lyon and getting out when we’ve been playing him beautifully from the crease?

Ben Stokes is in at six for England and it's a watchful start from the skipper.
He blocks his first four balls before working the last to mid-wicket for a single.
Just as England looked to be racing away, that Root wicket has seen Australia drag them back. This game remains in the balance.

Joe Root will be frustrated because Nathan Lyon has done him in the flight. He could have pulled out, attempted to get something on it, but instead he committed to the shot. This is the way England play. Australia needed to group and they have. It's going to be a tight Test match.

Joe Root had a haymaker at that - he tried to hit that out the ground. He's lived by the sword and died by the sword. However, he's given England the momentum they want.
Root st Carey b Lyon 46 (Eng 129-4)
A disappointing end to a fantastic innings from Joe Root.
He came charging down the pitch and tried to hit the ball out of the park, the ball spun back past him and Alex Carey took it just leg-side of the stumps and whipped off the bails.
Root has given England a great platform but will be frustrated by the manner of that dismissal.

Save your legs, Harry!
Too full and a hint of width from Josh Hazlewood and Harry Brook laces it through the covers for four.
A fabulous shot to bring up the 50 partnership and take England past 100 runs in the day.
How good is this set up from Pat Cummins to Ollie Pope?
