Everyone will always remember the signal of intent from Zak Crawley on day one of this first Ashes Test. Now everyone will remember that attempted reverse ramp by Joe Root. It would have gone down in the scorebooks as a dot, but it was England throwing a haymaker. Showing their intent.
The Aussies need to regroup. It has upset Australia, you can see that, because a lead of 200 by lunch will be the game getting away from them.
Harry Brook got in on the act pretty quickly as well and welcome Nathan Lyon to the attack by thumping a pair of boundaries in his first over...
It wasn't all reverse ramps from Joe Root. But even when he put that shot away, he still managed to find the boundary at regular intervals...
Oh, go on then!
I think Tuffers was all of us in that moment. Joe Root knew what he was doing though...

Could you share the video of Tuffers' reaction to Root's first ball ramp?!

Harry Brook looks so comfortable playing on the off side to the off-spin of Nathan Lyon. Hitting against the spin, on a spinning wicket, you'd normally prefer it as a off-spinner but Brook looks so good.

Harry Brook is down the pitch and smashes Nathan Lyon.
He hits inside-out with such confidence and control. Four more!
Time for drinks - what a first hour and a bit it's been for England. Incredible stuff from Joe Root.

Is Pat Cummins taking a leaf out of Ben Stokes' book? He gets a bit funky with his field midway through the over and moves to around the wicket to Joe Root.
Root calmly guides the ball to deep third for a single.
Back over the wicket to Harry Brook, who digs out a very good yorker.
With an extended session, we've still got a few more minutes before drinks this morning.

I can't remember the first hour of an Ashes Test match like this since...the first day!
Harry Brook has not been in too long but he's been typically aggressive so far!

England going with the theory to Nathan Lyon that if he bowls a good ball they'll block it, but they will look to whack anything else.
Root 43, Brook 21
That's a very expensive first over for Nathan Lyon!
Harry Brook takes 13 from it! His second boundary of the over comes via a well-struck sweep behind square.
The Yorkshireman then adds a pair of twos through square leg and clips a single to finish it.
England are racing along.
Smashed for four first ball!
Slightly too short and Harry Brook goes back to thrash the ball through the off side.
It was on the stumps but the length meant that Brook was confident in giving himself room and taking it on.
Slightly later that we might have expected but we're going to see some spin. Nathan Lyon is on for his first over of the day.

Fierce bouncer from Pat Cummins late in the over and it crunches into Joe Root's bat handle. Well played in thee end but it did surprise him.
Of course, Root decides the best option is to come down the pitch next ball! It ends with a defensive shot but the intent is there. He is not going to back down.
