It's a good sign that Moeen is going to bowl. I thought Joe Root would bowl first because of Moeen's finger so this is good.

Moeen Ali showed me his finger this morning. He told me he often gets this, even after just a few games. He can't let go of the ball from another part. It's hardening up and he said he'd be okay to bowl, and be okay for Lord's as well.
Moeen Ali into the attack.
England adopt something akin to the umbrella field for Usman Khawaja right from Ollie Robinson's first ball.
The Australian opener looks relatively unmoved to the England seamer's first over and is happy to see a maiden slip by.
Ben Stokes shuffles his pack as Stuart Broad is replaced by his natural heir as chief Aussie cage rattler in the form of Ollie Robinson.

I wonder how conditions will affect things tomorrow. We are expecting a bit of rain in the morning so that might just juice up the wicket.
Once the rain goes through around lunchtime, we're not expecting anymore for the rest of the day.

It’s very tight and it can change in an hour. If England can get two or three wickets, they have a great chance. If the Australia openers get through it then it gives them a very good chance.
I just think Joe Root and his style of off-spin could be very useful on this pitch. The odd ball will keep low, that is the key to this chase.
James Anderson drops it short to David Warner and the ball sits up and says 'hit me'. The Aussie left-hander rocks on the back foot and crisply pulls it to the fence for four.
Australia on top here at the moment.

Davemondo: Even with all the mind games and shenanigans, Australia look settled and content with the chase ahead.

I think that is a good non-review, took the emotion out of it. Jonny Bairstow was keen, Stuart Broad always wants to review but Ben Stokes turned to the calm head of Joe Root and he persuaded him not to review.
Good decision.
A huge roar as Stuart Broad cuts David Warner in two with his fourth delivery. Jonny Bairstow, ball in hand, raises his glove in the air. He's convinced there's an edge.
Broad continues through with a celebr-appeal. However, umpire Ahsan Raza is stonefaced.
England briefly debate a review, but wise sage Joe Root tempers emotions.
This will give Moeen Ali plenty of encouragement when he gets thrown the ball by Ben Stokes...

James Anderson looks a bit disconsolate at the end of that over. Or is that his natural appearance on a cricket field these days?
Ben Stokes looks pensive. Hands on hips.
James Anderson is chuntering to himself as he kicks the turf near where his front is foot landing.
The England fans in the crowd attempt to rouse themselves from their afternoon stupors to rally the players with a song. This all feels a little flat.
Two runs from the over.

If England lose this Test it’s not down to Australia but our own mistakes. Not enough runs in both innings. Mistakes in the field, no balls galore. This Australia team are for the taking and our own errors are making it an even contest.

Here's that chance off Khawaja, which Isa Guha just mentioned on TMS...

The crowd has lost some of its oomph. It won’t take much to get it back but that’s the problem with that early missed chance.
David Warner has shown Stuart Broad the maker's name so far. He's looked stout and steadfast in defence thus far.
Broad goes a fraction straighter to the Aussie opener who works it calmly off his legs and they run three.
England have to be careful not to chase wickets here.
