The big Aussie-born Italian international wallops Australian international Glenn Maxwell for a picture-perfect straight six. 10 off the over, following up a wicket-maiden.

    Yorkshire 142-0 v Worcestershire

Just 20 balls into the afternoon session - and we're off for rain again.

Tom Alsop has now joined Tom Clark and Sussex are 150-1 after 30 overs against Derbyshire.

No such luck for Worcestershire, with Finlay Bean (57*) and Adam Lyth (69*) safely negotiating the latest Ben Gibbon over at New Road. Yorkshire are 134-0 after 28.

  8. wicket

    WICKET Evison c Burgess b Hannon-Dalby 5published at 13:46 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Kent 78-7 v Warwickshire

Big wicket for Warwickshire. Oliver Hannon-Dalby, recalled to the side, has his third scalp, getting Joey Evison to nick to the diving Michael Burgess to take a fine catch to his right.

Kent are up against it at Canterbury.

Hamid Qadri joins Grant Stewart with Kent still well short of three figures.

  9. Postpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Middlesex v Northants 74-2

Almost a second wicket in the over for De Caires, as Whiteman inside edges his first ball just short of short leg - and then half an LBW shout as Whiteman is right back on the stumps trying to defend.

Just going over the top. Not an encouraging start for Northants.

  10. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Somerset 74-4 v Hampshire

Only seven balls were possible after lunch at Taunton before the rains returned... looks like an afternoon of dodging sharp showers in the west country.

  11. Latest from Blackpoolpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Lancashire v Essex 12-1

You need to be the sunniest of optimists if you are at Stanley Park in Blackpool at the moment.

It is still raining and we're getting to the point now where we must wonder whether play will be able to resume today.

Just 4.1 overs bowled in the game so far. Tom Westley is eight not out for Essex and Alastair Cook has four.

  12. Play resumes at Merchant Taylors'published at 13:42 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Middlesex v Northants 71-2

Middlesex removed both openers before lunch, with Emilio Gay falling just before the break to off-spinner Josh de Caires.

Just two balls bowled by him so far, so he'll complete the over, bowling to new Northants batter Sam Whiteman.

Slip and short leg in place.

  13. Postpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 74-4 v Notts

Lyndon James completes the over interrupted by lunch at The Oval and Will Jacks helps finds the boundary from the final delivery via a thick edge past the cordon.

    Durham v Glos 94-2

Gloucestershire were looking fairly comfortable at 94-1 before a late strike by Durham on the stroke of lunch to remove Ollie Price.

Chris Dent resumes unbeaten on 49 with Miles Hammond.

Matt Potts to bowl to Dent.

  15. Rebuilding job for Foakespublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 70-4 v Notts - lunch

    Ben FoakesImage source, Rex Features

The pro-Ben Foakes lobby continue to act as social media 'boosters' for the Surrey wicketkeeper in the hope that he will be involved in the final two Ashes Tests.

The only gloves Foakes will be wearing this afternoon at The Oval are ones for batting and the Division One leaders need some runs from him after finding themselves in a sticky situation at lunch - and we're not talking treacle tart on the menu.

He was nought not out at the interval, having faced just five balls so far. A big score today will do his team and his England ambitions a power of good.

  16. rain stops play

Latest from Cardiffpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

Glamorgan v Leicestershire - start delayed

The covers are still on at Sophia Gardens, so little prospect of an early start to the game this afternoon.

The umpires had hoped to be out there at 13:10 BST but the weather closed in again and so it's back to idly flicking through mobile messages etc for the players.

  17. Haines makes good use of short boundarypublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Sussex 15-0 v Derbyshire - lunch

A good toss to lose for Sussex who having been put in have raced to 150 without loss this morning.

Tom Haines has led the charge hitting 15 boundaries his fourth half-century of the season, albeit with the benefit of a short boundary on one side

Tom Clark has been happy to play second fiddle, but passed 50 for the second time in 2023 just before lunch

Haines had a life on 64 when the normally reliable Wayne Madsen spilled a chance at first slip, but in reality its been a very poor morning for the visitors.

  18. Somerset re-live Abbott 'nightmare'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Somerset 74-4 v Hampshire - lunch

Kyle Abbott takes a wicketImage source, Getty Images

Kyle Abbott is the stuff of which Somerset nightmares are made.

In 2019 he virtually single-handedly denied them the County Championship by taking 17 for 86 in their penultimate game at the Ageas Bowl, and this morning he increased his tally of Somerset wickets by another three to 56.

Abbott also diverted a Sean Dickson drive onto the stumps in his follow through to run out the unfortunate George Bartlett.

For a Somerset side missing several key players with T20 Blast Finals Day in mind, it was not a good morning.

    Sussex 150-0 v Derbyshire

One-way traffic this morning at Hove with Tom Haines and Tom Clark batting through the opening session to lay the foundation for a substantial Sussex score.

Haines has batted superbly for his 86 not out off 95 balls, including 15 boundaries, while Clark hit 11 of his own to reach 54 not out.

Derbyshire have tried six bowlers so far but are still waiting for their first breakthrough.
