  1. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Kent 77-6 v Warwickshire

Kent won the toss... and that was arguably the high point for the home side.

Chris Rushworth caused untold problems and has moved onto 39 wickets for the season with the scalps of Ben Compton and Harry but Kent have contributed to their own downfall with some ill-judged shots and the horrendous run-out of skipper Jack Leaning.

Opener Tawanda Muyeye hung around until the ball before lunch, perhaps owing more to luck than judgement, and so much will depend, once again, on Joey Evison if Kent are to wrestle any initiative back on the opening afternoon.

  2. wicket

    WICKET Muyeye lbw b Hannon-Dalby 38published at 13:04 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Kent 77-6 v Warwickshire

A nightmare end to a nightmare session for Kent. Oliver Hannon-Dalby has another wicket, although the replay suggests he's a touch fortunate, it looks not to have pitched in line and might have been too high, but up goes the finger.

Tawanda Muyeye has ridden his luck but has to go for 38. Kent are six down at lunch.

  3. Lunch at Riversidepublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 94-2

Gloucestershire looked to be gaining the upper hand but it must be honours even now - as Durham take their second wicket with a fairly innocuous ball well wide of off stump.

Soft dismissal for Ollie Price, really.

  4. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Yorkshire 132-0 (27 overs) v Worcestershire

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at New Road

    Unquestionably Yorkshire's morning in Worcester.

After choosing to put the Tykes in on a track with a slightly greenish tinge, it looks at first sight like the wrong call by stand-in skipper Jake Libby.

Both openers Adam Lyth and Fin Bean have hit half-centuries in helping to complete their highest stand of the season - and Worcestershire are yet to make a breakthrough.

But it might have been a different story if the Pears had held their catches.

Bean has been dropped twice, in the gully and then at first slip.

And Jack Haynes also put down Lyth at slip on 41.

    Not a happy home camp!

  5. wicket

WICKET Gay lbw b De Caires 24published at 13:02 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Middlesex v Northants 71-2

    Middlesex v NorthamptonshireImage source, Rex

off spinner Josh de Caires strikes with the second ball of his first over to give the hosts a lift right at the end of the morning session!

Beautiful flight, dip and a hit of turn as the ball thuds into the pads in front of middle and leg.

A patient 81-ball innings ends for Emilio Gay - and that's lunch.

  6. wicket

WICKET Latham lbw James 29published at 13:00 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 70-4 v Notts - lunch

Surrey lose their third wicket in the space of 17 balls and that is lunch at The Oval.

Despite losing Rory Burns to the second ball of the game, the Division One leaders seemed to be going along nicely as Dom Sibley and Tom Latham added 66 for the second wicket.

But now both are gone, with Latham trapped in front by Lyndon James, who has 2-12 from 5.3 overs so far.

The other two wickets were taken by Brett Hutton.

  7. Latest from Cardiffpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Glamorgan v Leicestershire

The umpires and captains made their way to the middle for the toss at Sophia Gardens and....... it started raining again.

The planned 13:10 start will not go ahead and the waiting goes on.

This is becoming a bit of a theme, losing a wicket particularly just before lunch.

  9. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Somerset 74-4 v Hampshire

Oh dear. The heavens have opened just before lunch, two balls into Liam Dawson's latest over. An early lunch will be taken.

It's been thoroughly Hampshire's morning, after Somerset won the toss and chose to bat first. Kyle Abbott was first change and made his case to take the new ball 3-6 from five overs and a run-out too.

James Rew and Andy Umeed have steadied the ship but there's plenty more work to do when play does resume.

  10. wicket

    WICKET O Price c Bedingham b Pretorius 23published at 12:56 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 89-2

Disappointment for Gloucester and for Ollie Price, who miscues a square drive and edges to second slip.

Very wide ball less than five minutes before lunch.

    Miles Hammond to bat next.

  11. Postpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Middlesex v Northants 67-1

Gay plays a perfectly timed late push off Roland-Jones to guide the ball to third man for four runs to move to 24.

Still pace and movement in this pitch for the bowlers. 300 could be a very handy first innings score here.

Justin Broad picks up one off Bamber.

Next, the bowler strays down the leg side to Gay, who plays and misses.

  12. Division Two updatepublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

Tom Clark has followed partner Tom Haines to 50 at Hove and Sussex are now 143-0 in the 27th over. Clark's half-century - only his second in the Championship this season - took 77 balls and contained 10 fours.

It's similar story at New Road where Adam Lyth reached his 50 off 75 balls with a superb cover drive for four off Joe Leach. They are now 115-0 in the 25th.

  13. Postpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 87-1

Dent is back and across to Raine and pushes a couple of runs in front of square.

He's on 42 and Ollie Price has 23. Good session for the visitors so far.

  14. Good morning for Gloucestershirepublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Gloucestershire 85-1 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It looks like a decent batting track in CLS and I gather both sides would have batted had they won the toss. Gloucestershire were the ones to do so, though.

Despite the loss of Ben Charlesworth for 13, progress has been steady and methodical. Chris Dent has 40 and Ollie Price 23.

They have put on 62 so far. They came together when Charlesworth clipped a ball from Matthew Potts to Matt Parkinson at mid-wicket at the start of the eighth over.

  15. wicket

    WICKET Cox c Davies b Hannon-Dalby 15published at 12:49 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Kent 72-5 v Warwickshire

Oliver Hannon-Dalby slams one into the track and Jordan Cox's eyes light up with the chance to pull the short ball away to the short boundary for six. He does not get it right and sends it straight down the throat of Alex Davies at square leg.

Another avoidable wicket for the hosts. "They have donated their wickets," according to BBC Radio Kent's Ben Watts.

Joey Evison joins Tawanda Muyeye, desperately hoping to get to lunch unscathed.

  16. wicket

WICKET Smith c Moores b James 0published at 12:48 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 67-3 v Notts

Two wickets in the space of four balls and suddenly this has become a very good morning for Nottinghamshire.

Jamie Smith follows Dom Sibley back to the dressing room as he is caught behind off Lyndon James.

Smith hung the bat rather limply at one that cut back off the seam and Tom Moores did well to cling onto an inside edge, diving to his left.

  17. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Middlesex v Northants 62-1

Justin Broad is struggling against Roland-Jones, who beats the batter repeatedly outside the off stump both in defence and in attack.

Gay picks up a single off Bamber at the other end and Broad picks up a run with a nudge in front of square leg to move to 16 off 51 balls.

Gay plays a lofty leg side clip behind square leg for one more.

Slow going for Northants here but they've kept nine wickets in hand so far this morning.

  18. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Somerset 70-4 v Hampshire

Around 1,500 school children are enjoying a day at the cricket at Taunton and my goodness there must be a serious chance of an RSI-related injury to some of the squad players, given the number of autographs they are being asked to sign by the enthusiastic youngsters.

On the field, Somerset have battened down the hatches through Andy Umeed and James Rew, who have added 29 in 12 overs.

James Fuller has been thrown the ball to try to make something happen for the visitors, who remain in firm control.

  19. wicket

WICKET Sibley c Moores b Hutton 34published at 12:45 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 66-2 v Notts

He took a wicket in his opening over and now Brett Hutton has his second as Dom Sibley pushes forward defensively and nicks a catch behind, where keeper Tom Moores sprawls across in front of first slip to take it safely.

A setback for the Division One leaders with just a few minutes to go before the luncheon interval.

  20. Postpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Kent 69-4 v Warwickshire

Ed Barnard's opening over did not begin auspiciously but he's hitting his straps now.

Barnard has drawn a series of inside edges, which BBC Radio WM's Mike Taylor suggests is down to some late movement in the air. The latest flashes across Tawanda Muyeye's stumps and away to deep square for a single.

No calamitous running mix-ups for Kent in the last three overs... progress!

Glenn Maxwell is on to bowl some spin in the County Championship for the first time.
