    Middlesex 50-1 v Northants 219

Tom Taylor is in the attack, replacing Jack White and a leg side ball canons off Stoneman's pad for a leg bye.

That's the Middlesex 50 in the 14th over.

Hard work for Northants - and for the scorers this morning, now that the electronic scoreboard appears to have stopped working!

  2. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Somerset 214-5 v Hampshire

James Vince is a brilliant cricketer. He's also a fine slip catcher. But he dropped a dolly from a nick off Kasey Aldridge on eight yesterday and he's just put down James Rew on 86 off Liam Dawson.

This was a far tougher chance, close to the stumps after a late attempted cut off a fuller delivery outside off, but the ball carried between his legs, he got both hands to it, but couldn't hold on.

Dawson's next ball stays incredibly low and goes between Ben Brown's legs all the way to the rope for four byes. Hampshire's mood darkens further. The partnership is 138.

  3. wicket

WICKET Lawrence c Bohannon b Bailey 1published at 11:33 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Lancs v Essex 21-3

You don't see that very often.

Dan Lawrence drives powerfully back, but in the air, bowler Tom Bailey tries to grab it but deflects it to Josh Bohannon at mid-off, who completes the catch.

If England were contemplating a change to their batting line-up, that won't have done anything to boost Lawrence's chances of playing in the fourth Test.

  4. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Surrey 355 v Notts 4-0

How will Notts find batting on this wicket at The Oval?

One day on from his 32nd birthday, Dan Worrall bowls the opening over and Ben Slater edges past the slips for four.

No danger there, it went down off the bat and was never close to a chance.

  5. wicket

WICKET Goodman lbw b Raine 0published at 11:31 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 316

Dom Goodman lasts all of two balls and the innings ends in the blink of an eye.

Full length, moving in off the seam and Goodman is struck on the kneeroll in front of middle and leg.

Durham have roared back into this game after being under the pump for much of Monday's play.

four wickets gone for 36 this morning.

  6. wicket

WICKET Hain c Cox b Arshdeep 32published at 11:30 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Kent 171 v Warwickshire 174-3

Big wicket for Kent. Arshdeep comes over the wicket and tempts Sam Hain into a fair wild slash which sends an edge behind for Jordan Cox to take a fine grab diving to his right.

The visitors lead but have lost a third wicket. Jacob Bethell joins Rob Yates in the middle.

  7. Maiden five-wicket haul for George Scrimshawpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    #bbccricket

Sussex picked up a fourth batting bonus point but have finally been dismissed against Derbyshire at Hove.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice (62*) and Henry Shipley (15) hauled the hosts to 402-9 before Shipley followed Ari Karvelas and Jack Carson in falling to George Scrimshaw, who finished with 5-49 - significantly better than his previous career best of 2-22, that!

  8. wicket

WICKET Bamber b Sanderson 11published at 11:28 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 43-1 v Northants 219

Bowled him! Full, hint of in swing and the middle stump is ripped out of the ground.

    Northants have a breakthrough.

    Sam Robson is in next.

  9. wicket

WICKET Zafar b Raine 34published at 11:28 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 316-9

Ben Raine strikes with his first ball!

It's a peach of a delivery, moving in off the pitch, through bat and pad - and into middle stump.

Dom Goodman is the number 11.

  10. new ball

New ballpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 312-8

No ball from Carse who is really steaming in now, going round the wicket and trying to bounce Akhter out.

Akhter gets off strike with a single.

Zafar nudges the last ball through third man for one and keeps the strike.

New ball taken straight away - by Ben Raine.

  11. wicket

    WICKET A Cook c Jennings b Williams 11published at 11:25 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Lancs v Essex 20-2

    Not watchful enough....

Alastair Cook fences at an angled ball from Will Williams and Keaton Jennings takes a comfortable catch, turning to his right at first slip.

Dan Lawrence - again named in England's squad for the fourth Ashes Test - comes out at number four.

  12. Postpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Lancs v Essex 20-1

A watchful start by Essex in Blackpool.

Tom Bailey sends down a maiden to Tom Westley and just eight have been added in the first six and a bit over of play.

  13. Postpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 42-0 v Northants 219

Better from Sanderson, who nearly cuts Bamber in half with a ball that goes between bat and pad - and passes over the stump.

Beaten outside off stump later in the over, too.

Northants will welcome any breakthrough here - even if it is a tail ender who was in as a night watchman last night.

  14. Postpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Kent 171 v Warwickshire 173-2

Just nine scoring shots in the opening five overs of the morning, though three of those were dispatched to the rope for four by Rob Yates, who has moved to 68.

Sam Hain has 32 and Warwickshire have a two-run first innings lead with eight wickets in hand.

  15. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 41-0 v Northants 219

More punishment for Northants as Stoneman lofts White down the ground for a maximum.

Middlesex are closing the gap in double quick time.

  16. 200 runs

up for Somersetpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Somerset 200-5 v Hampshire

Another bumper crowd at Taunton, bolstered by more than 1,000 school children. One of the best things about the last term of the school year, I'm sure.

Bless one little lad, he's brought his own hand-drawn sign with the word 'Smeed' on it in bubble writing. I haven't the heart to tell him the preposterously-talented Somerset batter, just 21-years-old, isn't on the field and is indeed yet to make his first class debut.

He'll have to make do with watching the similarly-talented pairing of James Rew and Kasey Aldridge who have added 120 now for the sixth-wicket to haul their side to 200.

  17. for Lyndon Jamespublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Surrey 355 v Notts

    Lyndon JamesImage source, Getty

Career-best figures for all-rounder Lyndon James as he completes a five-for by having Tom Lawes caught behind by Tom Moores.

Moores now has six catches in the innings - can he equal the club record of seven by Wayne Noon against Kent in 1999?

No, he can't as Dan Worrall slogs James' next delivery to Brett Hutton in the deep and Surrey's first innings comes to an end.

James' final figures are 6-74 from 24.2 overs.

  18. 6 runs

Third batting point for Surreypublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Surrey 355-8 v Notts

Easy as you like, Jamie Overton drives Dane Paterson straight back down the ground for four.

His eye now in, he lifts the South African paceman elegantly over mid-on for six as Surrey's total passes 350.

Overton is now 30 not out.

  19. wicket

WICKET Taylor c Robinson b Carse 0published at 11:15 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 302-8

    First ball!

A first slip, leg slip and short leg in for Carse, who bowls a much nastier bumper this time and Taylor is back, fencing it to the keeper.

Durham are ripping through the tail.

Zaman Akhter is in a bit earlier than he might have expected.

  20. Division Two updatepublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

Sussex have lost two wickets in three balls at Hove - Ari Karvelas caught at gully and Jack Carson edging to slip. George Scrimshaw is the successful Derbyshire bowler and he now has 4-42, with the home side 380-9 after 98 overs.

As we have already mentioned, there will be delayed starts at Worcester and Cardiff.
