  1. wicket

WICKET Shaw c Robinson b Carse 16published at 11:12 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 302-7

It was fun while it lasted but Shaw's cameo is over.

Carse has taken some tap this morning but he's gifted a wicket here as Shaw nicks a leg side bumper to the keeper.

    Matt Taylor is in next.

  2. 6 runs

Gloucester on the chargepublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 301-6

Shot! Josh Shaw goes big and launches leggie Matt Parkinson over long on.

That's the Gloucester 300 in the 77th over - and for Durham the new ball can't come soon enough.

  3. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Lancs v Essex 17-1

Tom Bailey overpitches and Alastair Cook does little more than put the bat there and let the ball deflect off it to backward point for four.

Slightly uppish, judging by the reaction of keeper Phil Salt, who does a little involuntary jump in the air, but the runs are in the scorebook.

  4. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 35-0 v Northants 219

Stoneman goes to 14 with a lofted clip down to square leg for four off White.

Big appeal for LBW off the next ball but it's not out and the ball runs away for four.

No signal from the umpire so Stoneman must have got an outside edge on that.

    Rapid start by Middlesex.

  5. Postpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 295-6

Lovely drive through extra cover for Zafar Gohar off Brydon Carse for four.

Another full ball is guided away to third man for four runs.

Great start for Gloucester, who are closing in on a second batting point fast.

Carse drops short and Zafar ducks.

Four more! Another short ball - and this one is uppercut through backward point.

    Somerset 197-5 v Hampshire

James Rew (77*) and Kasey Aldridge (56*) have resumed their salvage operation for Somerset at Taunton.

Hampshire bossed the early exchanges but despite dodging showers for much of the afternoon the two youngsters have got the hosts back on track with a sixth-wicket partnership of 117... and counting.

Kyle Abbott is sharing the bowling with Mohammad Abbas, seeking to add to his four wickets and a run-out, so far.

    Surrey 343-8 v Notts

Surrey are up and running at The Oval with a boundary for Jamie Overton in day two's opening over. It wasn't the most convincing shot, he flashed at it and it flew away to third man off the edge. Only seven more runs needed for a third batting point.

  8. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Middlesex 25-0 v Northants 219

White is a bit awry at the start of his over but his third ball beats Stoneman outside off stump.

Remember, these Championship games are played with the Kookaburra ball, which does not offer much movement in the air or off the pitch beyond about 15 overs.

Just a couple from the over. Sanderson will bowl from the Benham End.

  9. rain stops play

Rain delays play at Cardiffpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Glamorgan v Leicestershire

Cruel. After losing day one to the weather, the players were walking out to the middle at Sophia Gardens when the rain began to fall once again. They trudge back to the pavilion and the waiting starts all over again.

Eventually Glamorgan will bat after being put in by the visitors at yesterday's toss.

    Surrey 339-8 v Notts

This Surrey side certainly does bat deep - even number 11 Dan Worrall has a 50 to his credit this season - so there is still work to do for the depleted Notts attack at The Oval.

Dane Paterson has the ball for day two's opening over. Jamie Overton is the bloke in the pads at the other end.

  11. Postpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Lancs v Essex 12-1

Two dot balls and finally, Tom Bailey completes the over he began almost 24 hours ago.

Tom Westley and Alastair Cook are the not out Essex batters - on eight and four respectively.

  12. Day two starts at Riversidepublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos

Early wickets here and the hosts are right back into this match.

Matt Parkinson will bowl from the Lumley End, bowling to Zafar Gohar.

  13. Postpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Kent 171 v Warwickshire 155-2

Sam Hain resumes unbeaten on 29 at Canterbury... he leads the Division One averages with 80.71 after moving on to 565 runs from just nine innings so far this summer. That's seventh best in the top-flight.

How many more can he and Rob Yates (53*) add this morning?

  14. Postpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Lancs v Essex 12-1

Just 4.4 overs possible on day one, but the teams are out there for a prompt start at Stanley Park.

Tom Bailey will have a second go at completing the over he began yesterday morning - only three balls were possible when he tried to do so last evening.

  15. Play resumes at Merchant Taylors'published at 11:00 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Northants 219 v Middlesex 23-0

Sanderson and White both struggled with their line in the mini session of play last night and will hope for more accuracy in far lass gloomy conditions this morning.

Jack White will bowl to Mark Stoneman.

  16. Early wickets needed for Northantspublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Northants 219 v Middlesex 23-0

A tough day for the visitors at Merchant Taylors', who again fell short of a batting point in their first innings yesterday.

Several Northants batters played watchfully without going on to make a big score, including debutante Justin Broad, who became the 543rd player to represent the club.

He made 31. Saif Zaib top-scored with 49.

Mark Stoneman will resume with night watchman Ethan Bamber, who one might assume has license to tee off from the start.

  17. Brighter skies at the Riversidepublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 280-6

Drizzle and poor light on Monday evening meant 22 overs lost to rain on a compelling day one in which Gloucester scored fluently but lost 3-61 on Monday afternoon.

Charlesworth, Dent and Roelofsen all got out when well set.

Three wickets to leggie Matt Parkinson.

The forecast is much better today so we can expect extended sessions of play to make up some of those lost overs.

  19. Clark ends run-scoring frustrationpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 11 July 2023

Surrey 339-8 v Notts (play due to start at 11:00)

Surrey all-rounder Jordan Clark was happy that his positive approach paid off with a first-day hundred against Nottinghamshire

“I’ve been a little bit frustrated through the season with how I’ve played and how I feel I’m capable of playing, so I’m glad to get that one out of the way and it’s just good to get a score, " he said.

“Sometimes when you don’t get that score, it plays on your belief and your confidence a little bit. Now I feel I can play with a bit more freedom.

“With a wicket like that, there’s a ball with your name on it and the aim of the game is to try and score runs, so it’s better to put the pressure back on them rather than waiting for the ball to nip back and nick it."
