Joe Denly edges onto his pads and the ball loops up for Michael Burgess to take the catch scuttling to his left. Denly is nonplussed. Oliver Hannon-Dalby has six for the match.

The deficit is 292 as Jack Leaning strides out. Kent will be keen for some of those summer showers to halt the Warwickshire momentum.

  2. Steady as she goes for Nottspublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 v Notts 313-6

No boundaries for Notts since the 89th over. We are now in the 99th.

Head coach Peter Moores won't care about that, though, as long as Will Young and Lyndon James are still together at the crease.

  3. Postpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Lancs 73-1 v Essex 282

Lovely shot by Josh Bohannon, who drives back past a sprawling Sam Cook for four.

There's another boundary in the over too and he is 39 not out, with Keaton Jennings on 26.

They have so far added 69 and it's time for Doug Bracewell to have a burst for Essex.

  4. 100 runs

up for Hampshirepublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 104-6

Muted celebrations for this, if we're honest. The deficit is, however, down to 396 runs with four wickets in hand.

At Sophia Gardens Sam Northeast has departed without adding to his overnight score, getting an inside edge onto his stumps off Chris Wright while Zain ul Hassan has edged into the slips to depart for 39 as Glamorgan are 57-3 against Leicestershire.

Brooke Guest (105) and Haider Ali (31) have hauled Derbyshire within 112 runs of Sussex's 402 with six wickets in hand at Hove.

  6. rain stops play

Rain stops play in Chester-le-Streetpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316 & 0-0

Not a pretty sight here at the Riverside ground.

Very dark skies and the rain is glistening off a full complement of covers protecting the square.

We may be off the field for some time...

  7. Postpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 107-2 - lead by 49

Shot! Whiteman rolls his wrists over a pull shot off Helm and smacks the ball to backward square for four.

Helm pushes the next ball out wide and Whiteman plays and misses an attempted cut, or perhaps even a risky ramp shot.

Ryan Higgins moves to backward square leg.

    Whiteman defends.

  8. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Lancs 65-1 v Essex 282

Six overs bowled so far this morning and Essex still await their first breakthrough.

Four leg byes come from the first ball of Sam Cook's latest and Keaton Jennings adds a couple off the next and is 26 not out.

  9. Postpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 103-2 - lead by 45

LBW shout for De Caires against Whiteman but it's not out.

The off spinner is going round the wicket and that could've been sliding down.

  10. Durham all out against Gloucestershirepublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Gloucestershire 316

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham gained maximum batting points for the fifth time this season, all the while with an eye on the sky.

Earlier we had some incredible weather drift just to the north of the ground. I think if that hit us it could have been it for the day. It is lashing down in nearby Washington, according to listeners. However rain has also arrived here and we could be looking at an early lunch.

Matthew Potts and Matt Parkinson brought up Durham's final batting point, steering them to 450 after Brydon Carse had earlier been dismissed for 62 with the score on 437-9.

Gloucestershire are 137 behind but rain has arrived and their second innings has been delayed for the time being.

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 216 & 102-2

De Caires has a forward short leg and a slip in play now and concedes just two runs off his second over.

Tom Helm comes into the attack for Roland-Jones and Whiteman punches the second ball through mid-wicket to get the visitors to 100 in the 42nd over.

Procter adds two more runs, pulling a short ball to leg.

  12. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 v Notts 305-6

Surrey have only managed one wicket - so far - with the new ball but Jordan Clark and Sean Abbott have succeeded in drying up the runs for the time being.

Just a single for Will Young from the latest Abbott over and he is now 131 not out.

Actually, Ben Raine won't bowl to Charlesworth.

    Not yet, anyway.

I thought we might get lucky when the worst of the dark clouds started moving away from the ground. Sigh.

  14. Division Two updatepublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

We have play at Sophia Gardens and Leicestershire seamer Chris Wright has bowled Sam Northeast for 15 in the second over to leave Glamorgan on 55-2.

Derbyshire are now 273-4 after 78 overs at Hove, with Haider Ali settling in alongside Brooke Guest, who is now 102 not out.

Middlesex have turned to the spin of Josh de Caires - and the offie starts with a maiden.

Lovely shot from Sam Whiteman, who moves to 21 with a clip through mid-wicket off Roland-Jones for four.

  17. wicket

Worcestershire in a spot of bother here as Azhar Ali hangs his bat out to dry to Ben Coad and edges to George Hill at first slip.

The new, improved Ed Pollock comes in to join Adam Hose.

Shoaib Bashir fizzes in a full, quicker delivery and beats the outside edge and hits the off-stump of James Fuller who went back instead of coming forward.

Somerset are rampant. Bashir has a career-best 2-3 from three overs. Felix Organ is next in the firing line. The deficit is 412.

  19. wicket

WICKET Potts c Zafar b Goodman 13published at 11:56 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316

Three balls later, Potts takes one hand off the bat on a miscued hook that flies to Zafar Gohar, running to long leg.

A more than handy first innings lead of 137 for the hosts.

    Durham 453-9 v Glos 316

Lovely shot by Matt Potts, who clips Dom Goodman through square leg for four, raising his bat like a periscope after connecting.
