    Lancs 43-1 v Essex 282

We are under way at Stanley Park and there is an early boundary for Keaton Jennings as he flicks Jamie Porter into the gap at mid-wicket.

  2. Postpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 449-9 v Glos 316

Gloomy skies around Chester-le-Street, but the worst of the grim weather seems to be missing the ground.

Potts drives Taylor firmly to cover but can't clear the infield.

He connects with the fourth ball of the over though - and drives through cover past Ollie Price for four.

A single clipped to mid wicket off the last ball.

Durham are in touching distance of maximum batting points.

  3. wicket

    WICKET Compton c Burgess b Hannon-Dalby 26published at 11:52 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 79-2 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

26 wickets for the season and five in the match for Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

Ben Compton has pushed forward and nicked behind to Michael Burgess for 26 from 75 deliveries. He's a picture of frustration. He knows Kent need to bat time.

Harry Finch joins Joe Denly, who is on 39. The deficit is 299.

  4. 100 runs

for Brooke Guestpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Sussex 402 v Derbys 259-4

Brooke Guest scored four Championship centuries in a prolific 2022 campaign for Derbyshire.

Runs have been harder to come by this summer but there's his first hundred as he dabs Jack Carson past the outstretched hand of first slip for four.

It has taken him 212 balls and included a six and 14 boundaries.

  5. Second batting point for Nottspublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 v Notts 300-6

Will Young hasn't seen a lot of the strike so far this morning, but a single off Jordan Clark takes the Notts total to 300 and his own contribution to 126 not out.

  6. Postpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 v Notts 299-6

Sean Abbott is on now, replacing fellow Aussie Dan Worrall.

Lyndon James turns him through square leg for four and adds another boundary from the final ball of the over.

Notts looking good for some sort a first-innings lead at the moment. Hope those words don't put the mockers on them.

  7. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 86-2 - lead by 28

Whisper it quietly, but Northants are settling into a steady partnership here.

Whiteman moves into double figures with a single squeezed into the leg side off Higgins.

Two more clipped through mid wicket at the other end. A single driven off a thick edge through cover point.

The final ball of the over is clipped through square leg by Procter for four.

  8. wicket

WICKET Dawson c Ogborne b Bashir 8published at 11:44 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 80-5

Shoaib Bashir is on to bowl some spin for Somerset and he's got a wicket from his second ball.

Liam Dawson tries his luck at attacking the short boundary with a slog sweep down on one knee but can only send it straight down the throat of Alfie Ogborne on the deep square rope. Terrible choice of shot in this situation. A 19-year-old holding the catch off a 19-year-old's bowling too.

Just like Somerset, Hampshire are 80-5. James Fuller joins Ben Brown to try and match the 420 runs the hosts added from this point.

  9. wicket

WICKET Du Plooy b Carson 53published at 11:43 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Sussex 402 v Derbys 250-4

Derbyshire reach a first batting point but now their captain is on his way. That's a lovely flighted delivery by Jack Carson - but did it come off the bat on its way to the stumps?

No third hundred of the season for Leus Du Plooy as his downfall ends a stand of 108 with Brooke Guest, who is on 96.

  10. Postpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 440-9 v Glos 316

Gloucester and Akhter are trying to bounce the last pair out here, and the number 11 Matt Parkinson ducks under a bumper.

Akhter pitches up but it's leg side and Parkinson nudges it defensively to short leg.

Still 10 runs needed for maximum batting points.

Phew! Parkinson misses a drive off the last ball, which squirts away to backward square.

How did that miss the stumps? Maiden over.

  11. wicket

WICKET Hutton c Latham b Clark 23published at 11:36 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 v Notts 284-6

    Jordan ClarkImage source, Rex

Brett Hutton's enterprising knock comes to an end as Jordan Clark finds the edge and Tom Latham dives to his right at second slip to take the catch.

Lyndon James is the new Notts batter, joining Will Young, and he's hoping for a healthy number of runs to go with his six wickets in Surrey's first innings.

  12. Blustery day at Stanley Parkpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Lancashire 37-1 v Essex 282 - play due to start 11:45

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

Its a blustery day on the Fylde coast with winds predicted to be approaching 30mph.

The first victim of the weather has been the broadcasting tent which was deemed unsuitable for gusty conditions.

Yesterday the Kookaburra ball did nothing after about 30 overs, and Lancashire know if they can survive the conditions, as well as the Essex bowling, then runs should be easier to come by later in the day when the ball gets softer, and the sun is predicted to shine.

  13. Postpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 76-2 - lead by 18

A breezy morning with fluffy clouds here. There is a threat of rain later though.

Northants have confirmed that Emilio Gay retired hurt this morning with a knee injury, currently being assessed by medical staff.

Toby Roland-Jones takes over from Bamber at the Benham End.

His first ball is flicked through square leg by Procter for four. Superbly timed.

  14. 50 runs

for Leus du Plooypublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Sussex 402 v Derbys 244-3

Leus du Plooy adds a couple off Jack Carson and brings up his 50 from 79 balls.

It's his sixth of the season and he converted two of the previous five into centuries. Will he make it three today?

  15. 11:45 BST start at Cardiffpublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Glamorgan 54-1 v Leicestershire

    0 overs on day one.

    17 overs on day two.

How many overs on day three?

Play is due to resume at 11:45. Fingers crossed the showers stay away.

  16. wicket

    WICKET Carse b M Taylor 62published at 11:29 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 437-9 v Glos 316

Taylor is bowling short to Potts, who is riding the bounce and dabbing the ball safely into the on side.

Given what happened last night, the Gloucester bowlers will want Potts to face as many balls as possible.

His fifth ball is another bumper and Potts rocks back and dabs it to third man for a single.

Bowled him! Taylor has his 200th first class wicket.

Carse is late on a defensive short and the off stump is ripped out of the ground.

Can Gloucester deny Durham maximum batting points?

  17. wicket

WICKET Haynes lbw b Coad 29published at 11:26 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Yorkshire 407, Worcestershire 63-3

First dismissal of the morning as, after looking good with three early bolundaries, Jack Haynes is trapped leg before wicket by Ben Coad.

He not look too enamoured with life on the way back to the pavilion. Whether that was the stroke or the deicison is hard to tell.

It did look like it bounced a bit.

New man in to join Azhar Ali is Adam Hose.

  18. Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 63-1 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

Henry Brookes has thumped Ben Compton on the shoulder... with a short ball, don't worry.

Big appeals for a catch from the Warwickshire cordon, especially as the opener strides away towards square leg, taking his glove off, but he's only taking some time to rub it better. Nothing doing. There'll be a bruise tomorrow though.

  19. Postpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 v Notts 275-5

Brett Hutton had to go off with cramp during Surrey's first innings - maybe that explains his 'no running' policy so far this morning.

A thick edge past third slip brings him four past third slip and he then clouts Dan Worrall through mid-off for the fourth boundary of his innings.

  20. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 63-2

Procter is off the mark with a three scooped to square leg off Bamber.

Whiteman blocks and Northants lead by five.
