  1. wicket

WICKET Finch b Rushworth 67published at 16:58 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 245-6 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

Emphatic. Technically Harry Finch played his defensive shot nicely, it was just a fraction too late against the pace of Chris Rushworth who has nipped one back a bit and demolished his off-stump.

Everything going to plan for Warwickshire.

Grant Stewart joins Joey Evison after a 37-ball half-century in the first innings. Kent need another... and more. 133 adrift still.

  2. Postpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316 & 144-7 - lead by 7

Hammond takes two runs off Potts to move Gloucestershire into a slender lead.

One more single off the over and four more singles off Pretorius at the other end.

  3. by James Rewpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 292-8

James Rew is human after all. (Rew-man?)

He's missed the chance to run non-striker Felix Organ out as he sprinted through for a single off Shoaib Bashir. The ball bobbled out of the teenager's glove before he could break the stumps.

A let off for Hampshire, who are closing in on a second batting bonus point.

  4. Tea at New Roadpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Yorkshire 407, Worcestershire 215-9

    And finally . . .

    It's tea at New Road.

Worcestershire No 10 and No 11 Adam Finch (22) and Ben Gibbon (18) have so far added 36 in 23 overs, and seen out the whoie of that added half-hour.

They are still 100 short of the county's last-wicket record stand of 136 between Steve Magoffin and Alex Milton against Somerset at New Road in 2018.

But the way this pair are batting, who knows . . .

  5. 6 runs

for Joey Evisonpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 239-5 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

New balls also get hit for six. Harry Finch picks the second ball of the over up nicely from Chris Rushworth and deposits it over the short square-leg boundary for a maximum to move to 63.

  6. 100 runs

for Sam Whitemanpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 226-3 - lead by 168

That's his second century of the Northants campaign - and how valuable might this one prove to be in the context of Division One survival?

He drives Helm through cover for three to reach the landmark in 220 balls with 10 fours.

  7. 50 runs

for Dom Sibleypublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 104-1 v Notts 399

Dom Sibley has gone past 500 runs for the season in this innings and he's now brought up a 50 off 86 balls with a cut through backward point for four off Brett Hutton.

There was even a bit of whirling flourish in that shot from this normally undemonstrative Surrey opener.

  8. Division Two updatepublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

Two Aussies now together for Glamorgan. Can Mitchell Swepson keep Michael Neser company for long enough to see him to a century?

Neser is 88 not out and The Welsh county are 241-8 in the 75th over against Leicestershire.

Alex Thomson now has three wickets for Derbyshire at Hove, with Oli Carter giving him a return catch.

The visitors are 80-4, 75 runs ahead of Sussex.

  9. new ball

New ball taken by Warwickshirepublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 232-5 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

My word Bears have rattled through those seven overs since tea.

The new ball is thrown to Chris Rushworth who hasn't bowled since before lunch. Expect him to bowl to the close unchanged, whether that's in 21 overs time or when Kent lose five more wickets.

They trail by 146 runs despite the best efforts of Harry Finch (57) and Joey Evison (20).

  10. Emilio Gay returns for Northantspublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 218-3 - lead by 160

It was nearly a very short comeback as the opener drives and gets a thick edge past slip off Tom Helm for a single.

Whiteman drives Helm through cover to reach 98...

  11. 100 runs

partnership for Surreypublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 100-1 v Notts 399

Spinner Calvin Harrison is fractionally short of a length and Tom Latham times it well enough to find the cover boundary.

Having seen fellow New Zealand Will Young hit a century yesterday, the left-hander would undoubtedly love one too.

He is now 45 not out, one fewer than partner Dom Sibley.

  12. dropped catch

Let-off for Lawrencepublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Lancs 145 v Essex 282 & 56-3

Was that a chance? Looked very much like it.

Dan Lawrence flicks Jack Blatherwick away fine and Phil Salt gets his left glove to the ball diving full length, but can't hang on and it runs away for four runs.

Lawrence advances to 37 not out.

  13. wicket

WICKET Procter c De Caires b Helm 63published at 16:43 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 218-3 - lead by 160

    Breakthrough.

Procter tries to uppercut a short ball from Helm and he's caught by De Caires at deep cover point.

Relief for Middlesex. Northants fans will be relieved too as Emilio Gay is returning to the crease after he retired hurt with a knee injury this morning.

    He's not out on 24.

  14. 6 runs

for Kyle Abbottpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 284-8

Kyle Abbott swats a bouncer from Kasey Aldridge away for six over mid-wicket and is on 74.

I won't tell you what Abbott's first class best is after 201 innings but will say he hasn't got the thing you are thinking about.

An incredible counter-attack from Abbott and Felix Organ (66) has them 66 away from the follow-on target after a 132-run stand for this ninth wicket.

  15. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316 & 125-7 - trail by 12

Potts is back into the attack and Hammond takes the bowler on with six over mid-wicket and follows that up three balls later with four to cover point.

  16. Delayed tea at New Roadpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Yorkshire 407, Worcestershire 207-9

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at New Road

Worcestershire's last pair of Adam Finch and Ben Gibbon have served up the notable feat of delaying tea here.

They were scheduled for a break at 4:25 - but, with nine wickets down, they are now carrying on for an extra half-hour to see if the final wicket will fall.

32 put on now in 17 overs. But main Yorkshire strike bowlers Ben Coad and Matthew Fisher have so fcar been kept out of the attack.

Whether that is because of the light (the two umpires fo keep consulting) or to keep them fresh for an immediate second go at the Pears is not yet clear. But the figure of 258 needed to avoud a follow-in getting more and more within reach.

  17. 6 runs

for Joey Evisonpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 229-5 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

The Kent balcony is not yet repaired after Rob Yates smashed it yesterday afternoon but Joey Evison tries to emulate him with a straight six off Glenn Maxwell which the Aussie would begrudgingly admire, I'm sure.

Evison has 19, Harry Finch 55, the deficit is under 150.

  18. Postpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Middlesex 277 v Northants 219 & 214-2 - lead by 156

Whiteman steers Higgins to third man for two - and that's the 150 partnership with Procter.

The next ball is lifted over mid-wicket for four runs and Whiteman now has 94.

  19. Postpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Lancs 145 v Essex 282 & 49-3

Jack Blatherwick is called up straight after tea for his first over of the Essex second innings.

There is a boundary in it for England's Dan Lawrence, driven through mid-on, as the Essex lead reaches 186. He is 30 not out.

  20. Postpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 270-8

Kyle Abbott is playing like a man possessed. He is newly married and it clearly suits him.

He leaps in the air to cut a short ball from Kasey Aldridge away past backward point for his 13th four to move to 66.

Hampshire are 80 short of avoiding the follow-on.
