for Harry Finchpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 205-5 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

Harry Finch steers Rob Yates nicely through the leg side to find the ropes for the eighth time and reach his 14th first class half-century from 116 balls.

Finch and Joey Evison are the last recognised batters for Kent, although the hosts - and Grant Stewart in particular - have already shown they can give it a whack in this match, but can they linger long enough to avoid what seems the inevitable?

  2. Postpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 73-1 v Notts 399

As BBC Radio London's Mark Church advises to listeners to take a look at the hanging baskets at Grace Road, if they are ever in Leicester, Lyndon James completes a maiden over to Tom Latham.

Surrey have averted a potential crisis following the first-over dismissal of skipper Rory Burns and Dom Sibley is 41 not out, with Tom Latham on 26.

Time for some leg-spin for Notts from Calvin Harrison.

  3. 50 runs

for Kyle Abbottpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 250-8

Kyle Abbott was a whisker away from a five-fer with the ball but he does have a half-century to show for his week in Taunton.

He cracks Jack Brooks for back-to-back fours - his ninth and 10th - to reach the milestone from 75 balls - his 12th in his 150th first class match.

The South African Test bowler moves to 51 with a single which also brings up Hampshire's first batting bonus point.

  4. Division Two Updatepublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

Here's the latest away from our featured game at Chester-le-Street....

Michael Neser continues to attack with an unbeaten 71 containing 11 fours.

James Harris is unbeaten on 35.

Sussex have slipped to 36-3 against Derbyshire at Hove, leading by 31.

The two Toms, Clark and Alsop, fell to Suranga Lakmal and Alex Thomson in the first two overs of the innings.

Another Tom, Haines has just been caught by Wayne Madsen off Thomson for 22.

Worcestershire are 183-9 against Yorkshire at New Rod, where no batter has made 40.

Ben Coad is leading the charge for the White Rose with 5-29.

    Kent 171 & 200-5 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

One brings another. The Ric Flair whoops return as Rob Yates pins Jordan Cox in front. Cox got down on one knee and tried to sweep across the line but missed the ball and can have no complaints.

Joey Evison joins Harry Finch with Kent needing at least 178 more runs to make the visitors bat again.

Might be the end of spin for a while, the hosts are taking the new cherry at Taunton.

Hampshire's partnership is up to 89 and they are nine away from a first batting bonus point.

  7. Zafar out on the stroke of teapublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316 & 93-6 - trail by 45

    Martin Emmerson

What on earth was he thinking of there?

  8. Postpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Lancs 145 v Essex 282 & 20-2

Tom Westley clips Tom Bailey through mid-wicket for the first boundary of his innings.

They are 153 to the good. What kind of lead would Westley be looking for before contemplating a declaration?

  9. wicket

WICKET Leach c Bean b Coad 33published at 15:40 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Yorkshire 407, Worcestershire 179-9

    Five wickets for Ben Coad.

Joe Leach holes out in the gully.

It is a second 'five-fer' of the season for the big paceman in only his fifth game.

And both of them have been away from home, having also done it againat Sussex at Hove in April.

Last man in is Ben Gibbon.

Tea, already scheduled for 4:25, could be a late one of this pair hang about.

Still another 79 needed to avoid the prospect of being asked to follow on.

  10. Postpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 196-3 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

Jordan Cox gets off the mark after 10 balls with a delightfully-timed cover drive to the rope off Rob Yates. Harry Finch has 41 at the other end.

Glenn Maxwell is coming on to make it dual-spin for Bears too.

    Kent are 182 adrift.

  11. wicket

WICKET Zafar c Carse b Parkinson 15published at 15:38 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316 & 93-6 - trail by 45

    Gloucester fans, look away now.

Zafar Gohar is down the track to the leg spinner and top edges a lofty drive to Brydon Carse at mid off with the interval in sight.

A horrid short - and Carse is on one knee almost dropping it, but holds on.

    That's tea.

  12. 50 runs

for Felix Organpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 234-8

Felix Organ has clubbed four fours and three sixes in his seventh first class half century, which tells a story of what he's done from the other 141 balls of his innings... he's scored just 34 from those.

A crucial innings which might become even more important if he can stick around for even longer.

Hampshire remain 116 runs shy of their follow-on target.

  13. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316 & 92-5 - trail by 45

Big appeal for LBW by Raine against Zafar - and it's not out!

That must have been very close - and I can only assume the ball was doing too much.

Zafar tries to glance the last ball to a very fine leg but misses.

Frustrating times for Ben Raine, who has bowled a close to immaculate spell for no reward.

  14. Postpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 59-1 v Notts 399

Dom Sibley tries to pull a ball from Lyndon James. The ball balloons up off his gloves but fortunately falls into a vacant area. Just a single and he is 34 not out.

  15. Postpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316 & 92-5 - trail by 45

Ben Raine opens up with a no ball in his 8th over but is otherwise bowling a tidy spell, conceding only one run off the bat.

A legside ball from Parkinson is steered away square by Hammond for one.

Zafar drives down the ground but can't get the ball past Michael Jones.

He'll get a run here though, as the next ball is leg side and nudged square for one.

Can this 6th wicket pair survive the session? Tea interval coming in two or three overs - at 1540 BST.

  16. Postpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 58-1 v Notts 399

Tom Latham tried to pull a short one from Brett Hutton and a top edge is sufficient to bring him four to fine leg.

The Notts seamer responds with a good to beat the outside edge to end the over. Surrey lead by 14.

  17. wicket

WICKET Leaning c Bethell b Yates 64published at 15:30 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Kent 171 & 186-4 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

Jack Leaning stands still for a very long time.

He swivels to try and pull Rob Yates away into the leg side but can't get a clean connection and pops it up to the diving Jacob Bethell at short leg.

The pressurised field has worked for the visitors, who whoop with glee at such a big wicket. Leaning had struck nine fours in his 72-ball vigil.

Jordan Cox strides out to join Harry Finch who is unbeaten on 37.

    Kent still 192 behind.

  18. wicket

WICKET Baker c Rickelton b Coad 12published at 15:27 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Yorkshire 407, Worcestershire 170-8

Fourth wicket for Ben Coad at New Road.

Young spinner Josh Baker is caught in the covers after sharing a useful 31-run stand with Joe Leach.

  19. Postpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Durham 453 v Glos 316 & 87-5 - trail by 50

Ben Raine is in the attack and concedes just two runs off the over.

The partnership is worth 24. Riches indeed after losing 5-63 earlier.

Huge appeal for LBW by leggie Parkinson as Zafar is right back to cut a ball and is cramped for room and misses.

That turned in sharply. A slither of bat may have been involved there.

    Not out. Maiden over.

  20. Postpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 54-1 v Notts 399

Very much not his usual scoring rate at the moment from Dom Sibley.

Back to back fours - one to mid-wicket and one past mid-off - end the latest Lyndon James over at The Oval and the opener has 33 not out off 35 balls.
