    Kent 171 & 186-3 v Warwickshire 549-7 dec

Jack Leaning and Harry Finch have at least steadied the Kent ship, even if it is still negotiating choppy seas infested with sharks and rocks.

These two have added 100 for the fourth wicket inside 23 overs and the deficit is down to 192 runs.

44 overs remain in the day.

Dan Lawrence could do with some runs this afternoon and there are four of them as he helps a short ball from Tom Bailey on its way to square leg.

Bailey is wide of off stump with his final ball of the over and Lawrence punches this one through the covers for four more.

This one won't resume any time soon, I'm afraid.

A thick coating of dark grey cloud is hanging over the ground with no sign of abating.

    Sorry.

Just three scoring shots in five overs against the dual spin attack, but those shots did include a four and a slog-swept six for Felix Organ off Shoaib Bashir, whose figures have ballooned to a still respectable 2-56 from 23 overs.

More movement into the bat from Potts - who is making batting a precarious occupation here.

Just one run comes from the over.

Zafar and Hammond take a single each off Parkinson at the other end.

Big appeal for caught behind off the fifth ball but the umpire says no. Close to the bat, though.

Jack Leaning moved to 60 from 64 balls with three boundaries in four deliveries from Henry Brookes, each cut away riskily over point and prompting yelps from the cordon.

Leaning spoke at stumps on day two about the good batting track, he's got himself in on it, can he keep the momentum going for Kent?

Glamorgan knew they'd miss Michael Neser immensely while he was away with the Australian touring party... they probably didn't think it would be his bat they'd be missing.

He has a 16th first class half-century and has put on 79 with James Harris (22*) for the eighth wicket at Cardiff. A vital innings in the circumstances.

Neser has moved to 60 with his 10th four.

We don't know what the groundstaff did to the Stanley Park wicket overnight, but it's been raining wickets since mid-morning - when it hasn't been raining.

Alastair Cook departs second ball following the latest weather break and that was quite a lazy shot - it was there for the square cut, but he didn't keep it down and Dane Vilas held the catch at point.

  9. Division Two updatepublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 12 July 2023

Derbyshire eked out a five-run lead over Sussex in their first innings - and the home side have already lost two wickets in their second.

Tom Clark was lbw to Suranga Lakmal for a third-ball duck and Tom Alsop has edged off-spinner Alex Thomson to slip.

Sussex are 1-2 and still four behind.

A captain's innings just when Kent needed it. It came from 61 balls and was brought up with his sixth four.

The hosts will need him to add on plenty of runs and bat plenty of time to establish a foothold in this game, still more than 200 in arrears.

A slip and a forward short leg are in.

Zafar defends - then takes a single at long on off the last ball to keep the strike.

A blistering spell of bowling from Matthew Potts saw him take a wicket in each of his first four overs as Gloucestershire were left reeling in Chester-le-Street.

They began the innings with a deficit of 137 but Potts bowled Ben Charlesworth for one, Ollie Price for four and Chris Dent for one in his first three overs.

In the fourth, the keeper joined in, taking an edge off Grant Roelofsen when he was on 11. At that point Gloucestershire were 24-4 after 7.4 overs.

Skipper James Bracey then brought a bit of calm to proceedings and put on 39 runs for the fifth wicket with Miles Hammond. Bracey fell for 15 though, edging Migael Pretorius to the keeper, who took a cracking catch, low to his left, at full stretch.

That was during a Potts breather. He's now got the ball in his hand again. This may be over soon!

Notts waste no time in handing the ball to Lyndon James, who picked up six wickets in Surrey's first innings.

It's tidy start by the all-rounder, costing him just a couple of singles.

Dom Sibley is 19 not out and Tom Latham has 12.

Another inside edge for Zafar, who runs a single to long leg off Potts.

More inside edge, this time from Hammond as the ball is tapped to mid on for no run.

Some in swing in evidence here.

Looks like Somerset are going to pair Shoaib Bashir with Dom Bess in a dual-spin attack at Taunton.

Kyle Abbott takes advantage of a looser ball from Bashir, cracking upishly through cover for his fifth four and lofts his sixth over mid-on a couple of balls later. He has 29, one more than Felix Organ.

Zafar Gohar is usually the type of batter that likes to attack from the start - so not an ideal situation for him.

He gets an inside edge off Pretorius and the ball goes down fine leg for four.

He gets three more runs with a nudge to mid-wicket.

Potts is back into the attack at the other end. He took four wickets in each of the first four overs of his opening spell, by the way.

    BBC Radio Wales

Glamorgan have at last found some resistance from Australia’s Michael Neser, sharing a half-century stand with James Harris after Leicestershire’s seamers dominated the first half of the day.

Glamorgan started in the solid position of 54-1 after another rain delay, but quickly crashed to 57-4 against Sussex-bound veteran Chris Wright, who got movement off the pitch, and Matt Salisbury.

The slide continued either side of lunch against Tom Scriven and Salisbury as Billy Root edged to slip for 12, Chris Cooke was given lbw for 10, and Timm van der Gugten edged behind for four.

But Harris stuck around with Neser, who is one of the few players to time the ball on a soft surface after rain wiped out around half the match.
