    Lancs 145 & 305-6 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

There's a bit of tension around.

If Lancashire can take this long, they surely won't be too far away.

Just a single from Simon Harmer's latest over and the home side need 125 from 24 - 5.2 per over.

Only eight to the new ball, though.

  2. 50 runs

50 for John Simpsonpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 177-3 - target 323 (minimum overs 26)

Simpson picks up his 3rd Championship 50 of the season with a clip to square leg off Keogh for one.

    115 balls and five fours.

Good progress with him and Sam Robson. They've put on 93 at a run a ball.

    This could be game on.

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 330 & 167-7

Andy Umeed is coming on to bowl some leg breaks... just his 15th over with the ball in first class cricket.

The seventh bowler used by Somerset.

Liam Dawson and Nick Gubbins look very comfortable, in fairness, so you can see why Tom Abell is trying everything.

Dom Bess will take the final over with the old ball.

  4. Postpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Derby 159-4 - target 380 (minimum overs 29)

Derbyshire are still on the attack here after the loss of Wayne Madsen.

Leus du Plooy takes successive fours off Coles, driving through cover off the back foot and jabbing through mid wicket.

His new partner Haider Ali takes Derby past 150, driving McAndrew down the ground for four and then he gets a streaky four, edging wide if slip to third man.

The 150 comes in 28.1 overs. A healthy scoring rate but the draw is still the most likely outcome here.

  5. Postpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 300-6 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

If Lancashire are going to chase down 430, you'd think Rob Jones would now have to see them most of the way there.

Four singles from the latest Matt Critchley over and the total reaches 300 - 26 more to be bowled.

  6. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 168-3 - target 323

Shot! Sam Robson rolls the wrists beautifully, pulling a shot between mid wicket and fine leg for four runs.

Robson crouches and digs out the next ball, which keeps low.

Still a bit in the pitch for the bowlers.

  7. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 340 v Notts 399 & 78-1

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle speculates on the possibility of Notts trying to chase down a sub-200 target in the final 20 overs if they still have nine wickets intact.

Haseeb Hameed goes down on one knee and deflects Sean Abbott for four to square leg - a very unusual stroke - and at the end of that over, the equation is 210 needed from 28.

  8. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 330 & 165-7

Tom Lammonby is on to bowl some very occasional left-arm spin as Somerset search for a way to break this pesky partnership which has reached 50 runs.

Liam Dawson is warming up nicely, he has nine fours and a six to move to 43 from 74 balls. Nick Gubbins has one four in his 32 from 180 deliveries.

Hampshire are within five runs of making Somerset bat again... presuming of course they can take the remaining three wickets they so desperately seek.

Somerset do have the option of a new ball in three overs. Will they go for it?

  9. Postpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 164-3 - target 323

    Can Keogh get a breakthrough?

Slip and short leg in and Robson works the ball away to mid wicket for one.

Dark clouds are gathering, but if conditions permit we have 28 overs left.

    Lancs 145 & 294-6 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

More catching practice for Jamie Porter at long leg.

Colin de Grandhomme got too far underneath that short ball from Paul Walter, who has his second wicket since tea.

Tom Hartley is quickly under way with a single and Lancashire need 133 off 27 overs. If they had more wickets in hand, that would look fairly comfortable.

for Rishi Patelpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Glamorgan 403-9 dec v Leicestershire 259-3

    Rishi PatelImage source, Rex Features

Rishi Patel goes third in the Division Two run-scoring stakes with his maiden 150, working a single to backward-square leg off Mitch Swepson.

What a fine innings. The 24-year-old gets to the landmark in 210 deliveries with 15 fours and four maximums.

  12. Postpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 162-3 - target 323

Sanderson bowls short and Simpson ducks, turning his shoulder away at the last moment.

Another short ball is pulled to Sam Whiteman at fine leg and he keeps it to one

The short ball is not troubling the batters as much as it did when it was shiny and new.

for Rob Jonespublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 294-5 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

Well batted Rob Jones, who reaches his first 50 of the season off 99 balls with a boundary past mid-off from Matt Critchley's leg-spin.

There are 28 overs left - and 12 until the new ball is available to Essex.

  15. Postpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 289-5 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

Losing Phil Salt was a big blow to Lancashire's chances.

They're not done yet, though, and Colin de Grandhomme (who we shall probably call Colin de G from now on) flahses it past slip's right hand for four.

  16. wicket

WICKET Madsen lbw b Coles 48published at 16:16 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Derbys 136-4 - target 380

An eventful 26th over where Du Plooy is down the track to Coles, smashing the bowler down the ground for four.

A single off the next ball.

Madsen sweeps for four to square leg, but he's gone next ball trying to repeat the shot.

It would've hit all three halfway up and Sussex have an early wicket in the session.

Can they get on a roll from here?

  17. Tea at New Roadpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Worcs 242 & 115-2 v Yorkshire 407

Gareth Roderick passed 6,000 first class runs for his career in that rain-shortened session.

Whether that is the most memorable thing which happens will be determined in the remaining 26 overs of the match.

Yorkshire need to dismiss Worcestershire's top eight batters to secure victory. Worcestershire need 50 runs to make Yorkshire bat again.

  18. Postpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 160-3 - target 323

Sanderson beats Simpson outside off with the fifth ball of his over - and the batter does bit of gardening in front of his crease before the next ball.

The last ball is hooked to cries of "catch" but that's nowhere near Jack white, running in from backward square.

WICKET Ackermann st Cooke b Swepson 17published at 16:15 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Glamorgan 403-9 dec v Leicestershire 28-0

Smart work from Chris Cooke who moves to his right to grab the ball after Colin Ackermann takes a giant hop forward and an almightly swipe at Mitch Swepson's aired-out delivery, and then breaks the stumps to his left to send him packing.

Peter Handscomb comes in to join Rishi Patel in the hunt for bonus points.

  20. 250 runs

up for Leicestershirepublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Glamorgan 403-9 dec v Leicestershire 250-2

A dance down the track and a straight six from Rishi Patel off Mitch Swepson brings up their first batting bonus point. They will want at least another three, you'd expect.

More than 33 overs in which to find the 150 runs they'd need.

Patel has 145 which is a new career best.
