  2. Bad light stops playpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Gloucestershire v Glamorgan 152-2

The weather has interrupted things once again in Cheltenham. They're off for bad light although it looks like some more rain has arrived now too.

  3. 'Attacking mindset rewarded'published at 16:26 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 44-3 (f/o) v Somerset 351 - tea, day two

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Whenever Tom Abell has had the chance to enforce the follow-on as Somerset captain, he has taken it and today was no exception.

His attacking mindset has been rewarded with three Northants second innings wickets, making it nine in total for the session. Northants supporters should be blaming good bowling and a tricky pitch alongside some slightly limp batting.

  4. Tea at Lord'spublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex 68-4 v Surrey 438

    A superb day for Surrey.

They've chipped out four wickets after racking up a big score.

No one has been able to settle for the home side, they've been so well held - scoring at only two-an-over - and have a mountain to climb to save the follow-on.

  5. 'Essex dominate afternoon session'published at 16:16 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Essex 291-6 v Kent 207 - tea, day two

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

After losing the morning session, Essex fought back hard with a dominant afternoon session and found themselves 291-6 at the tea interval with Matt Critchley on 52 not out and Simon Harmer yet to score.

Post lunch, Essex scored 113 for the loss of two wickets which gives them a lead of 84 with four wickets in hand.

Paul Walter was dismissed with Essex on 241-5 and was beautifully bowled by the second new ball - an inswinger of the highest order by the Indian left-arm swing bowler, Arshdeep Singh.

Adam Rossington went just before tea for a decent 29, bowled through the gate by Hamidullah Qadri.

The home county may be thinking of giving Kent an extremely awkward half an hour’s batting late tonight and another bite with the newish ball in the morning. This surface will not get easier.

  6. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 44-3 v Somerset

Northants make it to tea without any further damage, but they are staring down the barrel of a crushing defeat nonetheless.

Their top three - Ricardo Vasconcelos, Emilio Gay and Justin Broad - have all been dismissed since the follow-on was enforced by Somerset, and they still trail by 127 runs.

  7. Elsewhere in Division Twopublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

Leicestershire have lost a couple of early wickets in their pursuit of 238 to beat Worcestershire. Rishi Patel and Louis Kimber are both gone with the hosts 29-2 at tea.

Alex Lees and David Bedingham have led Durham's fightback against Derbyshire with an unbroken third-wicket stand of 168. Durham are 176-2 in reply to Derbyshire's 443 all out.

Play is back under way at Cheltenham College after a lengthy rain delay. David Lloyd fell for 81 shortly after the resumption to leave Glamorgan on 129-2.

  8. 'Yorkshire in prime position to accelerate'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Yorkshire 128-1 v Sussex 216 - tea, day two

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A good session for Yorkshire who reach tea trailing by 88 runs with another 40 overs to be bowled today.

Opener Adam Lyth has led the way with the 68th half-century of his first-class career, although he was dropped by James Coles from a routine chance at first slip off the bowling of Henry Crocombe.

Lyth shared an opening partnership of 94 with Finlay Bean, before Bean edged Nathan McAndrew to first slip, but on a good batting surface Yorkshire are in prime position to accelerate after tea and put pressure on Sussex tomorrow.

  9. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 100 v Hants 166 & 171-4

Hampshire go to tea by far the happier of the two sides.

They lead by 237 runs with six wickets still in the hutch, knowing that their bowling attack is one of the best in the country.

Ian Holland is unbeaten on 69, while Liam Dawson has 37.

  10. wicket

WICKET Gay lbw b Henry 13published at 15:59 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 29-3 v Somerset 351

Things go from bad to worse for Northants.

Matt Henry gets Emilio Gay lbw and the hosts are facing an innings defeat.

  11. Postpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Warks 43-2 v Lancs 327

Just in case you thought we'd forgotten about the match at Edgbaston between Warwickshire and Lancashire, fear not...

They took an early tea because of the rain, but are scheduled to restart play at 15:55 BST.

  12. wicket

WICKET Davies c Sibley b Lawes 4published at 15:50 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex 53-4 v Surrey 438

Tom Lawes strikes with his 10th ball.

He gets one to hold it's line up the slope and draws an edge from Jack Davies to second slip.

Four overs to tea at Lord's.

  13. wicket

WICKET Broad lbw b Gregory 4published at 15:45 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 25-2 v Somerset 351

A second failure with the bat for Justin Broad, who is trapped lbw by Lewis Gregory.

Northants have struggled all season in the County Championship, and are sliding towards another defeat in this game.

  14. wicket

WICKET Vasconcelos c Rew b Henry 8published at 15:33 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 12-1 v Somerset 351

    An early strike for Somerset!

Ricardo Vasconcelos was the standout batter for Northants in the first dig, but he's been given out caught behind here.

From his reaction, I think that might have flicked the back leg rather than the outside edge, but he has to go.

  15. 50 runs

for Ian Hollandpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 100 v Hants 166 & 138-4

Hampshire opener Ian Holland moves past 50, and this fifth-wicket partnership is taking the visitors a long way towards victory at Trent Bridge.

They've added 51 since the loss of Ben Brown, and their lead now stands at 207.

Liam Dawson has supported Holland well, scoring freely in his 26.

  16. Follow-on enforced...published at 15:23 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 0-0 v Somerset 351

Somerset have enforced the follow-on at Northampton - they want to go a long way towards winning this game tonight.

Matt Henry has the new ball, and for the second time today, Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay stride to the middle.

  17. wicket

WICKET Robson b Abbott 12published at 15:23 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex 43-3 v Surrey 438

Two wickets in six balls for Surrey and now Middlesex are in trouble.

Sean Abbott is wide on the crease angling one into Sam Robson.

It nips back, bounces a fraction and deflects off Robson's arm into his stumps.

  18. Leicestershire need 238 to winpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Division Two latest

Worcestershire have been bowled out for 169 in their second innings at Oakham School meaning Leicestershire will need 238 for victory. It seems a tough ask in a low-scoring game.

Alex Lees and David Bedingham have both passed fifty for leaders Durham at Derbyshire. They've recovered well from 8-2 to 117-2, but still trail by 326.

Sussex have finally made the breakthrough at Headingley - Finlay Bean the Yorkshire batter to go to Nathan McAndrew for 45. But the hosts are still well placed on 94-1 in reply to Sussex's 216 all out.

At the Cheltenham Festival they've taken an early tea due to a rain delay. Glamorgan were 120-1 against hosts Gloucestershire when the showers arrived.

  19. wicket

WICKET Malan c Foakes b Overton 18published at 15:17 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex 43-2 v Surrey 438

Surrey have only conceded 43 runs in 20 overs at the start of this Middlesex reply.

As such, the host have made very little progress.

And they now lose a second wicket as Pieter Malan goes to pull a ball from Jamie Overton that is either too full to do so or skids on a little.

Either way, he gets a thin under edge to Ben Foakes.

  20. wicket

WICKET Zaib c Bashir b Overton 38published at 15:10 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 180 v Somerset 351

    Gone this time!

Saif Zaib tries to hook Craig Overton but gets in a horrible position, and skews it straight to Shoaib Bashir who takes a simple catch.

Zaib's 38 is the second-highest score of the innings after Ricardo Vasconcelos' 78.

There were eight single-figure scores... not ideal.
