  1. 'Fisher pick of the Yorkshire attack'published at 13:24 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Yorkshire 18-0 v Sussex 216 - lunch, day two

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Despite late order resistance with the last four wickets adding 140, Sussex will be disappointed to be bowled out for 216 having chosen to bat first yesterday.

This looks a good pitch but only Fynn Hudson-Prentice with his sixth half-century of the season, and Nathan McAndrew made any significant contributions.

The pair added 94 for the seventh wicket, after which the tail rather fell away the last three wickets adding only six runs.

Matthew Fisher was pick of the Yorkshire attack with his four wickets but Dan Moriarty on loan from Surrey bowled with good control and deservedly picked up a couple of late wickets.

With bad weather expected to intervene on day four on Saturday, Yorkshire will be looking to score quickly in the 73 remaining overs today and then put Sussex under pressure tomorrow.

  2. Lancashire lower order shinespublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Warwickshire 20-2 v Lancashire 327 - lunch, day two

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM

Last evening Mark Robinson suggested a score of 330 might prove to be around par on a pitch used for the T20 finals day last Saturday.

Lancashire almost reached it on the back of one lower-order partnership, and after a difficult start to their innings Warwickshire might have to hope for the same.

Alex Davies picked off Will Williams for a boundary either side of the wicket in his first over, but fell while thinking more defensively in the next, his unsuccessful attempt to leave dragging the ball onto leg stump. Tom Bailey found a good line from round the wicket to Rob Yates, and tickled the opener’s outside edge.

Whether Bailey and George Balderson slept well last night after their unbroken stand of 145, we might learn later, but both had hopes of a maiden first-class hundred when they resumed this morning.

Alas for Bailey, he was gone before the University clock down the road had finished striking 11 - pinned by Mir Hamza, who promptly accounted for Williams in the same way.

That left Balderson with only the number 11 Jack Morley for company.

Morley steeled himself to cling on tightly, though, and after a few refused singles, a thick edge to third man off Oliver Hannon-Dalby did the trick, raising a deserved century from 225 balls.

He added 30 in all with Morley, a bonus which Warwickshire are still to pull back with two already down.

  3. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 100 v Hants 166 & 44-2

It's been a magnificent morning from a Hampshire perspective, as they bundled Nottinghamshire out for 100, taking five scalps this morning for just 13 runs.

The now lead by 110 runs, despite having lost Fletcha Middleton and Nick Gubbins to Dane Paterson.

Ian Holland and James Vince are the two unbeaten batters, seeking to press home the advantage after lunch.

  4. wicket

SURREY ALL OUTpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex v Surrey 433 (Worrall c Stoneman b Helm 2)

Surrey all done with Dan Worrall only lasting six balls and Tom Helm finishes with career-best figures of 6-110.

That's an excellent second morning for the reigning champions.

They resumed 213-5 and lost Jamie Smith for 138, only 18 more from his overnight score.

But Jordan Clark took up the mantle with 78 and Jamie Overton's 35 from 32 balls has given Surrey a big score to work with.

  5. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Warks 20-2 v Lancs 327

Will Rhodes and Sam Hain survive through to lunch, but the Warwickshire pair know that plenty is needed from them after the break.

The hosts did take the three Lancashire wickets they needed this morning to wrap up the first innings, with George Balderson making his first first-class hundred.

However, they have lost openers Alex Davies and Rob Yates in the 13 overs of play since.

  6. Lunch at Northamptonpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 97-4 v Somerset 351

That Luke Procter wicket is the final act of the opening session.

Ricardo Vasconcelos has batted expertly for his unbeaten 69, but wickets have tumbled at the other end, with New Zealand seamer Matt Henry particularly impressive.

  7. Guest out for 197published at 13:06 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Division Two latest

Derbyshire wicketkeeper Brooke Guest fell agonisingly short of a maiden first-class double century against Durham. He was out for 197 - one of four wickets for spinner Scott Borthwick - as Derbyshire were all out for 443.

The visitors moved to 4-0 at lunch.

Wickets continue to tumble between Leicestershire and Worcestershire. The Pears are 81-3 in their second innings at lunch, but lead by a healthy 149. Jake Libby is 53 not out.

Yorkshire finally dismissed Sussex for 216 at Headingley - England's Matthew Fisher claiming 4-69. Fynn Hudson-Prentice's 73 led the recovery from 76-6.

And Glamorgan have made an excellent start against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham. They're 100-0 at lunch on the first day with David Lloyd unbeaten on 61.

  9. wicket

WICKET Lawes lbw b Helm 6published at 13:03 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex v Surrey 421-9

On the stroke of lunch Tom Helm completes a five-wicket haul.

Full and straight to Tom Lawes and pins him lbw.

They'll now keep playing at Lord's to try and get the innings done before lunch.

  10. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Essex 178-4 v Kent 207

Kent came back this morning under the pump with Essex 106-0 replying to 207.

But they have chipped out four wickets, including Alastair Cook for 87.

No-one else has got going for Essex, with Nick Browne also forced out of the game having failed a concussion test overnight.

  11. wicket

WICKET Gubbins b Paterson 10published at 13:00 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 100 v Hants 166 & 31-2

Nick Gubbins' head falls over as he tries to work to leg, and is comprehensively bowled by Dane Paterson.

Gubbins punches his bat in frustration, as he falls on the brink of lunch.

  12. wicket

WICKET Lawrence lbw b Hamidullah Qadri 25published at 12:47 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Essex 170-4 v Kent 207

A fourth wicket of the morning for Kent.

Dan Lawrence sweeps at Hamidullah Qadri, misses and it looks pretty good.

Lawrence doesn't seem to be far enough outside the line of off stump and it's not going to turn enough to miss leg either.

  13. wicket

WICKET Clark c Robson b Murtagh 78published at 12:43 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex v Surrey 400-8

Jordan Clark cut Tim Murtagh for four and two boundaries from Jamie Overton has raised Surrey's 400.

But Clark now falls, sort of trying to uppercut a ball from Murtagh that's much too close, and a catch loops up to slip off glove or shoulder of the bat.

Strange dismissal but an important one for Middlesex to try and prevent Surrey getting away here.

  14. 50 runs

for Ricardo Vasconcelospublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 75-3 v Somerset 351

An imperious drive down the ground from Ricardo Vasconcelos has Craig Overton scratching his head, and brings up the Northants opener's half-century from 75 balls.

He's struck 10 fours, and has batted beautifully with wickets falling at the other end.

  15. wicket

WICKET Yates c Salt b Bailey 3published at 12:40 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Warks 14-2 v Lancs 327

Tom Bailey angles one in to Rob Yates from around the wicket, and Yates isn't sure whether to play or leave.

He dangles the bat a second too long, and guides one through to Phil Salt behind the stumps.

  16. wicket

WICKET Whiteman b Gregory 9published at 12:34 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Northants 71-3 v Somerset 351

Sam Whiteman prods forward tentatively to a full ball from Lewis Gregory, but gets a thick inside edge back onto the stumps.

Northants were starting to rebuild, but that loss puts Somerset firmly back on top.

  17. wicket

WICKET Cook lbw b Quinn 87published at 12:31 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Essex 158-3 v Kent 207

Kent's fightback continues as they remove Alastair Cook.

Matt Quinn pins him in his crease looking to whip to leg.

Did it pitch outside leg stump?

    Replays inconclusive.

  18. wicket

WICKET Davies b Williams 8published at 12:28 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Warks 8-1 v Lancs 327

There are two types of leave, and this is in the 'bad' category from Alex Davies.

He looks to shoulder arms to a shortish delivery from Will Williams, but hesitates, and is bowled off the back of the bat.

  19. wicket

WICKET Abbott c Malan b Bamber 15published at 12:28 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex v Surrey 382-7

The seventh wicket stand had reached 37 and was beginning to move Surrey into match-commanding territory.

But Sean Abbott then pulls Ethan Bamber down the slope and is well caught down low in front of the Mound Stand.

Jordan Clark still there on 71.

  20. wicket

WICKET Middleton b Paterson 6published at 12:24 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 100 v Hants 166 & 12-1

An early strike for Notts - the first bright spot for them in what has been a terrible morning.

It's oh-so unlucky for Fletcha Middleton, who is struck on the thigh pad by a back-of-a-length delivery from Dane Paterson, and turns back to see the ball roll onto his stumps.
