  1. Postpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Essex 149-2 v Kent 207

It's been pretty patient stuff at Chelmsford with the run rate around 2.6 for most of the innings.

But Dan Lawrence - dropped into the game after returning from Old Trafford - has immediately changed the tempo.

He's stepped across his stumps to whip Matt Quinn over square leg for six and then danced down to drive Joey Evison over mid-off for four.

Baz... ooo, almost had me there.

  2. Abbas & Abbott in on the actpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 100 v Hants 166

    Kevan James
Former Middlesex & Hampshire cricketer on BBC Radio Solent

You can’t keep good men down for long

On a Trent Bridge surface that is helping the seamers, it was incredible to think that neither Mohammad Abbas nor Kyle Abbott picked up a wicket between them in the five Notts wickets that fell yesterday evening.

They certainly made up for it this morning. Abbas’s spell this morning was 3-7 and Abbott’s 2-6

Considering the home side are without several first choice seam bowlers it’s even more incredible the playing surface totally suits the away side's bowling attack. It’s not as though they don’t have a reputation!

  3. 'Third time lucky for Balderson'published at 12:09 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Warwickshire v Lancs 327

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

Twice out in the 90s so it was third time lucky for George Balderson.

A memorable moment for the Lancashire all-rounder and he ends unbeaten on 116.

It's a brilliant response by the former England Under-19 captain after being harshly dropped last week for the defeat against Essex.

Coming back to reach three figure in the Championship for the first time shows the character of the player who is enjoying an excellent season.

  4. Division Two latestpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

Durham continue to chip away at Derbyshire but Brooke Guest is still standing firm - the wicketkeeper has 163 not out in their 366-8.

Worcestershire are off to a rapid start in their second innings against Leicestershire. They're 39-1 in the seventh over and leading by 107. Gareth Roderick was the batter to go to Chris Wright.

Yorkshire seamer Mark Steketee finally broke Sussex's seventh-wicket stand at 94 when he bowled Nathan McAndrew for 47. Fynn Hudson-Prentice is still going along nicely on 64 with Sussex on 184-7.

Glamorgan have started well against Gloucestershire. They're 43-0 at Cheltenham with that game on day one.

Lancashire's innings comes to an end as Jack Morley nicks off to Danny Briggs.

George Balderson is left stranded on 116 not out, but Lancashire will be more than happy with that total considering they were 150-7 at one point yesterday.

    Northants 51-2 v Somerset 351

Ricardo Vasconcelos drives Lewis Gregory beautifully through the covers for four.

  8. wicket

WICKET Pettman c Brown b Abbas 1published at 11:44 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 100 v Hants 166

A stunning catch away to his left from Ben Brown, who now has six for the innings.

Mohammad Abbas finds the inside edge of Toby Pettman's bat, and Brown does the rest.

Notts will have fancied a healthy first-innings lead when they bowled Hampshire out for 166 yesterday, but instead they trail by 66.

  9. 350 up for Surreypublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Middlesex v Surrey 350-6

Sean Abbott the new man and he drives Ryan Higgins through point to raise a third batting point for Surrey.

Only four overs left in bonus point period so that's probably the extras done with.

But what total can Surrey now build up with the lower order?

Jordan Clark is still there and goes to fifty in 91 balls, with eight fours and a six.

WICKET Harrison b Abbas 0published at 11:37 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 98-9 v Hants 166

First wicket of the day for Middlesex and just in time to earn them a second bowling point.

Jamie Smith played very well yesterday for his second hundred of the season but can only add another 18 on the second morning.

Tom Helm skids one through him and takes out his off stump.

  14. wicket

WICKET Hutton c Brown b Abbottpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 98-8 v Hants 166

Brett Hutton has a big swipe at Kyle Abbott, but only edges through to Ben Brown.

  15. wicket

WICKET Westley lbw b Arshdeep Singh 4published at 11:31 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Essex 125-2 v Kent 207

Arshdeep Singh strikes in his next over as well!

The left-armer swings one into Tom Westley who looks dead.

Couple of quick strikes for Kent but they need more.

    Northants 17-2 v Somerset 351

  17. wicket

WICKET James b Abbas 2published at 11:27 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Notts 98-7 v Hants 166

A huge in-swinger from Mohammad Abbas sneaks through bat and pad, and sends Lyndon James' stumps flying.

Notts are in a whole world of trouble.

  18. wicket

WICKET Das c Finch b Arshdeep Singh 4published at 11:22 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

That Championship debut contains just one scoring stroke for Robin Das.

First of the day for Kent, who need a run of wickets to get back in the game.

  19. wicket

WICKET Williams lbw b Hamza 1published at 11:20 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

    Warks v Lancs 297-9

Mir Hamza picks up his second wicket of the morning, and Lancashire's innings is in danger of fizzling out.

George Balderson is still there on 95 not out - can Jack Morley stick around long enough to help Balderson reach a first first-class hundred?

  20. Postpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 20 July 2023

It's just worth mentioning there will be no radio commentary from Derbyshire against Durham and Leicestershire against Worcestershire today because of BBC local strike action.

We'll keep you updated with how those games are going in the live text.
