David Warner made the most of his good fortune and brought up his half-century by hooking Josh Tongue for six.

He'll be hoping to kick on again after lunch. England will be doing all they can to make sure that doesn't happen...

Earlier on there was a very tough catch - it was touch and go to whether it actually carried - when Usman Khawaja edged Jimmy Anderson to Joe Root at first slip…

After a number of drops at Edgbaston, there were more missed chances for England before lunch...

One catch definitely went down, Ollie Pope at fourth slip with Warner on 20. That would've been another Stuart Broad wicket in that battle...

We'll bring you more from that discussion during the lunch break.

But for now, here's a look at some of the action from the morning session...

The Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) delivered its findings from a two-year investigation yesterday.

Racism, sexism, classism and elitism are "widespread" in English and Welsh cricket, according to the long-awaited independent report.

Over the lunch break, BBC Test Match Special will be looking at the findings of the report and the problems facing cricket.

What a delivery from Tongue, Khawaja's face said it all!

    Warner 53*

That's the last delivery of the morning session.

It's been a good one for Australia, David Warner is unbeaten on 53 but England do finally have a wicket to show for their efforts.

Well bowled, after taking some tap in this first three overs, he started over the wicket but once he came around, Tongue looked way more threatening. Because of the slope here at Lord's it just continued that trajectory.

That one was a bit too tight to leave and it clattered into off stump. England will be delighted not to see Khawaja come out after lunch.

That is the length, about three quarters up. It is to just try and disciplined. It's perfect seaming conditions and England will want more of that.

    Khawaja b Tongue 17 (Aus 73-1)

    GOT 'IM!

There are two types of leave... this is not a good one from Usman Khawaja - but it's a cracking delivery from Josh Tongue.

The angle from around the wicket plays its part but Tongue gets the ball to move back in to the left-hander and thud into middle and off.

He's got his first Ashes wicket - a much-needed one for England!

I think the surface looked slow. When we turned up this morning, with the cloud, you felt that the ball was going to zip around on the surface but there must be a tacky layer on top of it.

Keep talking, Jon! The moment I saw your message, Jimmy Anderson beat Usman Khawaja with a lovely delivery.

He has gone past the bat a few times and even found Khawaja's edge in his first spell. He could've had a couple of wickets on another day.

Even coming up to his 41st birthday, I'd be loathe to write of Jimmy Anderson!

I really hate to say this, but Jimmy just doesn't seem to carry a threat at the moment, maybe a slight drop in pace and the batsmen don't seem troubled. Is his time finally up?

There will be time for two more overs before lunch - three at a push.

England are crying out for a wicket at this stage.

Warner's really committed to what he's doing today. When he's looked to attack, he's really attacked. He's not looked to be timid.

    Aus 70-0

David Warner gets to his 35th Test half-century - and in some style!

A short ball from Josh Tongue, the left-hander takes it on and hooks it into the stands!

He reaches his fifty from 66 balls and England will be getting more than a little concerned now.

This opening partnership, since 2010 there have been 27 Tests at Lord's including this one and this is only the third time that an opening partnership in the first innings has lasted the 20 over mark.

Usman Khawaja and David Warner have both had their moments of good fortune but they are still out in the middle.

England have given them a helping hand, which will frustrate Ben Stokes.

The Lord’s atmosphere is rarely boisterous or particularly loud but it’s certainly quieter now than at the start - or when we had those cheers when Ben Stokes won the toss.

  19. Aus 62-0published at 21 overs

Jimmy Anderson comes back well and gets some lovely shape away from the left-handed Usman Khawaja.

However, the Australian is not interested in playing at anything he doesn't have to and safely negotiates the rest of the over.

  20. Aus 62-0published at 20.1 overs

Jimmy Anderson is back into the attack but his first ball is too short and Usman Khawaja cracks it away for four through mid-wicket.
